The snow has finally melted from everywhere except the mountaintops. Flowers and plants make their final push through the soft ground as it finally defrosts to bloom and sprout; leaves return to bare branches. Green and warmth are returning to the Kawani lands. Warmer days have melted frozen lakes and the snowmelt coming down from the mountains seems greater than previous years (perhaps credited to the blizzard). New rivers and streams are being created from this snowmelt and lakes and rivers are widening and rushing.

How does your soquili react to the changing landscape? Do they stake claim to one of these new bodies of water? Does the creation of a new stream put their territory at risk? Do they have to relocate?

Write an RP responding to the above prompt telling us about how your soquili responds to the changing soquili lands.

The sky glowed above in a bright blue. A stark contrast to the gray skies that had greeted them when the storm hit. A mad blizzard that wrecked the land with snow and ice. Now that the snow had melted, the path home is blocked by an angry river. Water surged against the rocks, wild and merciless, a wall of noise that made conversation nearly impossible. Oshima stood at its edge, mud caked over her pink paws. Her muscles were tense as she scanned the swollen river, where once only a trickle of a stream had been.

Oshima turned and gave a gentle touch to the shoulder of her mate, Nariss. "I don't think we can safely cross here." she practically shouted, to be heard over the roar of the waters. Her friends were on the other side of that river somewhere. She would have to trust that they were safe. For now. After spending the storm huddled up next to her mate, she didn't mind more alone time with him. Though what would they do from here, since they couldn't head this direction? What if there were more areas blocked with water. She watched as a massive branch soared down the river, unable to fight the current. Drifting along like it was a mere twig. That would be them if they tried to cross here!

Nariss often went wherever Oshima did, content to follow her pace and path in life. Before her, he traveled, searching for something that made the great beauty that was life worth living. As grim as that sounded, it had been a quiet, fine life, and one he would have been content living until his paws ached and his lungs took their final breath. Content was nice, but with Oshima life was more than content– it was warm, and inviting, and kind. With her came the sun, and where the sun went, he followed.

Except, hopefully, he wouldn't have to follow the sun across that river...

The loud, drowning sound of water had long since caused a ringing in his ears, making the sound of the world bit by bit duller than it had been a second ago. It was fine, as long as Oshima was safely by his side, but it was damn annoying, that was for sure. His ears pulled back, his wings were bundled tightly over in hopes to block what they could, and his tail lashed irritably, careful to only gently graze Oshima when it came too close. He almost missed what she said, even though he had noticed her lean closer and raised a wing to cup the sound in time.

"I agree," he agreed with relief in his tone. He adjusted, leaning against his smaller mate, his tail flipping to cradle her. "It should calm soon, I hope. Do you think it's too close to our den?"

Oshima normally remained strong of mind. However, the thought of their den being flooded, made her give a soft whine. She swallowed the thought, and didn't dwell on the panic of their home being gone. No amount of worry would fix that, and at least they were safe.

Oshima curled her tail around Nariss's tail, for support. "Let's worry about that later. For now, maybe we can move further south, and find a place to cross?" She said as she looked north towards the direction of the angry waters.

Part of her wanted to test the waters, to see if she was strong enough to cross. However, she is more intelligent than that, and would never put her or her mate in harms way. She noticed how uncomfortable he was and pushed away from the edge, turning to walk away from the loud waters, then head south.

"Nariss, everything will be okay." She says as she curls her tail around his a little tighter. Saying the words for both of their benefit.

Even though the river might have blocked their way temporarily, life had begun to bloom all around them. Flowers sprung up through the ground. The wind smelled of crisp fresh, growing things, with the smell of the tilled earth from the river. The sun warmed her white coat, and made her hair glow in the light.

Some might panic at the raging waters that blocked their path. All in all though, the day is still quite lovely. A gentle breeze blows towards them, as if reminding them of just such a thing.

She was right– it was best to leave that worry for later, when the situation could actually be addressed. For now, their priority was simple: move forward, put as much distance between themselves and the raging waters in case it could, possibly, drown everything else around it further.

“You’re right,” he murmured reluctantly. They could rebuild, anyway. He followed her without hesitation or thought, trailing at her heels until her pace allowed him to return to his place beside her, brushing against her side in quiet relief. Instinctively, he placed himself between her and the water’s edge. If the river wanted someone, it could take him– he’d survive as long as she was safe.

“I wonder if it took out the crossing log," he said after a moment, eyes flicking towards Oshima. “We should check– make sure our friends are alright.” His voice lifted, hopeful. Everyone would be fine, right?

Oshima watches depris float down the river, with a calm eye. She is steadfast and unafraid of the wild current to the side of them. She turns her focus back to her soft, loving mate. He is her warmth, her kindness, always making her feel love when she is with him. Her heart swelled with even more warmth knowing that he wanted to check on their friends as well, and find a way to get there. "Yes, let's check to see if we can cross at the tree. That's a good idea." She doesn't fear the river, but she doesn't underestimate it. Finding another way across would be wise.

They walk together, until they find the log. Oshima notes that it is half submerged. The water hasn't capsized over the log yet. "We might be fortunate enough to cross here. We should check the logs integrity first though." She wanted to be the one to check it, but something told her he wouldn't let her. "Please be careful." She would be furious with herself if anything happened to him.

The log wasn't drowned. He let out a quiet huff of relief, brushing his cheek against hers with a low, contented purr. Good– there were still options. Not all was lost.

The quiet understanding between them never failed to warm him. She knew he wouldn’t be fond of her testing the log first, and though he’d never stop her if she insisted, she didn’t. She could– he’d never control or force her to do what she didn’t want to, but she didn’t, and he appreciated that.

“Thank you, love,” he murmured against her ear, tail slipping across hers as he passed.

Hmm. It looked steady enough, but…

He placed one hoof on the log cautiously, easing his weight in a slow, smooth motion. Encouraged when it didn’t shift or cave under him, he set another, inching forward step by step. His head wings flared instinctively, as if to help him balance in tandem with his raised, stiff tail. They folded only once his four hooves met solid earth on the other side.

Relieved, he turned with a toss of his head in. “It’s safe!”
