Alice had needed a distraction from her studying since she was starting to fry her brain over studying. Thankfully a distraction presented itself in one her favorite hobbies... baking! She had planned to make a few snacks to bring down to the Talent Showcase, but that had quickly morphed into her making half a dozen different snacks. Alice had a bunch of recipes that she wanted to either try for the first time, or ones she had mastered that she wanted to share with the whole school, plus any parents or friends who came to visit. After baking two cakes, three batches of different types of cookies, and a blondie banana bread combination, Alice had packaged her treats up nicely. They were secured with magic so she could carry them all down herself without worrying about dropping them. She knew that Sebby was probably going to be baking something too so she didn't want him to have to carry her stuff as well. Before she headed down to set up, Alice made ingredient cards so that everyone knew what was in each item and if there were any allergies to be aware of. Once she got down to the table, she started setting everything up, making her displays look pretty. After all, this was a talent showcase and her talent happened to be baking.
Setting up her display, Alice also produced some flowers she had stashed in her purse, setting a few pots around her display. She wanted everything to look super pretty and be a real expression of who she was. Everyone who knew Alice McNamara knew she was great at baking and loved plants. And she wanted her display to express that. Double checking her display, the teen hustled a few steps away to take in the entire feature. She nodded happily, then wiped her brow with her sleeve. "Whew, that looks perfect now. I need a snack!" Adjusting her dress a little, she grabbed a cookie from her plate and happily munched into the chocolate chip cookie.

Seb had been super busy leading up to the big event. Not only was he doing a lot of stuff for that, including baking, photography, and an art display, but he also had to study for OWLs, keep Alice from going insane while studying for OWLs, and all his normal responsibilities. On top of that, he'd been working in secret with Ella to write a song for Alice. That part was gonna make his exhaustion worth it. Honestly, if anyone deserved it, it was Alice. He'd also asked Mama if she could come along and see it, since he figured Alice would probably want a Mama there anyway.
Stopping by the student kitchens, Seb grabbed the fancy tray of triple-chocolate brownies, peanut butter brownies, and white-chocolate blondies that he'd made the night before and carefully wrapped up. Thankfully Lewis was also working late and helped Seb write up the allergy cards for everything, which Alice could help him sort up. Heading outside, he set those at the booth Alice was in, then gave her a quick cheek kiss before running to help set up his artwork and photography display. After that, he ran back over to his girlfriend, panting a bit. "Okay. I think everything's set up proper."
Grabbing one of the programs, which were carefully set every couple booths, he carefully scoured the list to try and locate his own name. Dang his inability to read. "You're up in thirty-four minutes, kiddo." Seb whirled around, seeing the other of his favorite people. "Mama! You made it!" Kinzlie gave her son a hug before stepping over to pull Alice into a hug as well. "You asked me to come, Bub. Of course I was going to be here. Finley closed the salon to be here for his sister and Nani closed shop for the day to visit her kids too. Not that they'd stop me." She grinned, ruffling her son's hair.

When her cheek was kissed by Seb, the blonde blushed a little, then grinned as she watched him hustle about. She was triple checking her display when Sebby trotted back over to him and commented that everything was set up. The blonde nodded and looped her arms around her boyfriend, nuzzling into his chest for a moment. Then he was grabbing a program to look at. Alice knew that he was doing something in the show, but he'd been very secretive about what it was and wouldn't tell her. Alice also knew Ella had been busy working on practices for the show, but she was doing several things. The blonde felt a little bad because she had practically no musical talent at all. She had thought about reading some of her poetry, but had backed out of that idea because she honestly didn't think it was all that good. Instead she'd focused on her baking talent. A voice from behind them drew both of their attentions and Alice smiled widely when she saw Momma Kinzlie. "Momma Kinzlie!" she exclaimed, then hugged the woman after Seb. She was here to see Seb perform, which made perfect sense. After the ruffled Seb's hair, Alice took her hand and pulled her over to their food display. "Look at what Sebby and I baked for the show!" Alice had decorated their display as well and she wanted to show off her contribution as well.

Seb was really excited for the day, especially now that Mama was here too. "Did Miss Nora bring you along?" It'd be super extra cool if Miss Nora was here to see his song for Alice. It was partially her that inspired the lyrics, so he really hoped she'd be there to watch. "No, Finley stopped by with Coty to apparate me. Chadwick was coming with Tsia so they could all meet up. Roxie's doing stuff too, so they wanted to be here for her. But Nora should already be here. She's got half her family doing something or another." Kinzlie chuckled, thinking it was crazy how big Nora's family was. She could barely handle her one kid most of the time, much less three kids, a dozen grandkids, a million adjacent family... it was a mess. "Oh good! I was hoping she'd be here too."
After hugs, Kinzlie was pulled over to the closest booth by Alice, who was proud to show off a variety of baked treats. "Oh yummy! These look fantastic, guys! They're nice and organized too, and I bet they all taste heavenly." Seb bounced on his feet, nodding along with his mama's words. There was a ton of really yummy treats indeed, and not just at their booth. Lewis had been painting in sugar frosting on cookies last night, which was awesome. "Yea! You should try those ones there. Alice managed to combine a blondie - which is like... a vanilla brownie - and banana bread! It tastes like magic, Mama." He grinned brightly, getting his hair ruffled again by his mama. "That sounds super good, Alice. You're becoming quite the baker. And speaking of," she paused, before pulling out a fancy baking cookbook, then handed it over. "I heard you were a little stressed, so I figured taking a break to try out some new recipes might help." She pulled Alice into another hug, hoping she liked the heavy book with its fancy pictures.

🍀☯🌷☮Lyric had thought that signing up to do background accompaniment along with some minor backstage help would be manageable. Fun even! He has never been more wrong, and this is coming from someone who has admittedly eaten dirt twice before. Don't get him wrong, it was still fun somewhat, just wayy more stressful than he'd originally thought. Also his fingers were numb! He was still wincing as he went through some finger exercises to keep them from stiffening up as he still had a few songs later in the afternoon while he had a rather long break. He had just decided to go by the stands and find some snacks when he got corned by Yarrick and was very politely ordered to bring her some as well.
Saluting in affirmative-because what else was he going to do?-Lyric made sure his guitar was secure in his back carrier before setting out on his quest. Since he had more than a few friends in the cooking club, he had a general idea of what all was going to be provided but he was still blown away by all the choices. Lyric was looking over what he thought were mini pot pies when he spotted the familiar colorful hairs of Seb and his mother, and where there was Seb he was sure Alice was close behind. And where there was Alice, there were baked goods. His stomach completely agreed with his logic as he made his way over with a wave.
"Hey guys, hi Miss Kinzlie! It's not too much to ask but uh, you happen to have some baked goods? Mayhaps a stray snickerdoodle or something loaded with chocolate?" He perhaps laid it on a tad thick but he was still a growing boy!

Alice listened to Sebby and Momma talk, nodding happily when it was confirmed that Mrs Nora was somewhere around the event as well. She would need to search out the woman to show her the display she'd set up. The blonde smiled a little when Seb described her new recipe, then said it tasted like magic. Alice was pretty proud of that one. Then Momma Kinzle said Alice was becoming quite the baker, which earned a little blush from the teen. She then present Alice with a fancy baking cookbook, a gift to help Alice with the stress from her studying. Alice hugged Kinzlie back and said, "Thank you! I do need a little break. My hair's been so... frizzy... lately." She blushed a little again, shifting her gaze. Seb knew what she was talking about. Alice had a habit of obsessively braiding her hair when she stressing out and studying. It was better than what she used to do though, before she had long hair. While they were talking, Lyric popped up and Alice happily waved at her friend. He asked about baked goods like a stray snicker doodle or something with chocolate, so Alice indicated her display. "Hey Lyric! I've got chocolate chip biscuits here and also my banana bread blondies also have chips in them!" She absolutely loved talking about baked goods or any kind of cooking to be honest. It was one of her favorite hobbies.
Seb was glad that Alice had liked the book Mama picked out. She'd been a little... scary with her studying, which he'd relayed to Mama, hoping she'd have some ideas. Any of his ideas had just seemed to make her a little... creepier with her hair braiding and unbraiding over and over. Honestly, it was pretty jarring to see. But she confessed to needing a break, which was good. "This summer I'll do your hair up and we can get you some anti-frizz spray. Mine does it too if I mess with it too much." Kinzlie gently brushed her fingers through Alice's blonde hair, before another friend of theirs hurried over. "Hey Lyric!"
Seb listened as their buddy explained that he was on the hunt for baked goods, especially those laden with chocolate. Alice quickly offered some cookies and blondies, but Seb scooped up a specific treat and put it on a little plate before offering it over. "Might I offer you a triple chocolate brownie? They're still warm. I baked them right before heading up here!" If anyone knew the chocolatiest treats, it was him. Besides, he'd added *more* chocolate to the recipe Nani gave him, and she also loved chocolate. It had to be a resounding hit. But if Lyric wanted a chocolatey fix, this was it.

🍀☯🌷☮Lyric felt a bit awkward looking between Alice and Miss Kinzlie, thinking he'd walked into a special moment...again. At this point he was going to make a third wheeling charm, it would detect when important stuff was happening and where he probably shouldn't go. Only problem would be what to name it. Thankfully though the moment passed and the blonde girl was offering choccy biscuits and banana bread blondies which was definitely an interesting combination. He almost felt bad he hated bananas.
Then Seb jumped in with a plated triple chocolate brownie which literally had the teen salivating at just the sight. He barely contained himself as he eagerly grabbed the plate and took a chunk out the brownie groaning in delight. "Ohmyfgoff. Alice. Alice I love you as platonically as I can, but I'm stealing your boyfriend." They'd last maybe a full half hour before the boy ran back to Alice but if he got his own pan of these brownies in this time, Lyric would take their breakup gracefully.
"I'll definitely take some biscuits and some of the blondie though. Your biscuits are always great and I'm sure Yarrick would really like the blondie. And the brownie....ifIcangetitthere." He was seriously worried he'd eat her portion before getting to the older girl and he really, really, didn't want to learn the aftermath if he did.

Springtime in the country Each time I'm shocked by the light The world lyin' fallow and you are apart from me Everythin' in my vision is movement and life Riverboat, wheelbarrow, wildflower and barley
₍ᐢ・⚇・ᐢ₎ Adlai hadn't originally considered doing anything for the showcase except maybe attending, but between his letters home and his persistently growing circle of acquaintances, he'd reconsidered. He wasn't that much of an artist; not like his eldest siblings, and the singing he did for the pigs was, well, private. So he tried other things. He was still pretty new to cooking and baking in general so he'd rather not do that option. He couldn't really offer the different bundles of yarn like he did during the summers since well...that was more a job than a talent?
It was actually during Herbology club that he came up with his idea; some of his plants were growing mushrooms at the base which kind of freaked him out and Lyric, one of the older boys, had helped him diagnose the problem. In return, he'd let the younger boy assist him on his own plant project while explaining what he'd been doing. The idea didn't fully hit until the following week, and when Adlai had nervously brought it up to the teen, he'd been surprised how enthusiastic he was to help him.
It had been a bit of trial and error, but Adlai was happy with the tea blends he'd manage to make with Lyric's help. One was a rather fruity rich dark black tea, one was a light chamomile, and the last one was the hardest as instead of real mango he'd used the flower petals of one of Lyric's hybrids that had edible leaves that they both were surprised tasted like a mix of mango and passionfruit. It was one of his favorite of the teas if he was honest. He'd practiced paper transfiguration until he could turn loose sheets into a paper cup with his eyes crossed as well as the heating charm to keep the tea enjoyably hot unlike the magma he'd accidentally created his first few attempts.
Now on the day of the showcase, Adlai-with the help of Lyric-had set up his small booth and placed the different cups of tea with the blends neatly written out for people to read and pick. He even had a few bags of each in case they wanted to brew some of their own. Before the older boy left, he'd dropped a flower crown on his head and told him to enjoy the day before jogging towards the performance area. Adlai had a few moments of peace as the day started with a few people stopping by to take some tea and compliment him-leaving him a blushing stuttering mess in their wake-before he heard his named called by a familiar voice. He could barely turn before he was pulled into a tight hug by his sister Preeti while Solomon just followed sedately behind her chuckling the whole time. "This is so great, Addy! I'm so proud of you for putting yourself out there. This all looks amazing! Mum and Dad are definitely going to be thrilled." That at least pulled Adlai away from the mortification of his sister manhandling him to begin looking around eagerly for his parents.
"Mum and Da are here?! He hadn't thought they would have the time.
"Mum is, she's looking at some paintings a bit back there but she should be here in a bit. Dad is coming a bit later, Hanni is covering for him so he sends his love, and Shazzi is...yknow I'm not really sure." Solomon remarked with a slightly furrowed brow. Preeti just rolled her eyes at his seemingly mysterious take.
"She's fine, I managed to talk to her just yesterday. She's on assignment or she'd be here too." Adlai just offered a shrug but nodded in understanding. Honestly the fact that nearly half his family managed to make it was nothing short of a miracle. His grandparents must be having a hornets nest. "That's alright, I'll save them some tea for later then." he offered, grinning a bit.
It then doubled when he spotted the tall visage of his mother and ignored his siblings to sprint over to her and into her arms. Call him any names you wanted, he was most definitely a mummy's boy and proud of it. She also expressed the same eager excitement as her daughter but this time he didn't feel quite as much embarrassment as he lead her over to his booth to show off his blends and offer her (and he supposed his siblings) a cuppa.

Jazz had been super excited about the Talent Showcase. It was supposed to be a huge party, with everyone showing off their skills. But the thing that had caught their eye was that food and treats was one of the categories! After finding Lewis (which wasn't that hard, he was super tall and always very colorful) he confirmed that Jazz was welcome to join in on the fun. Happily, they signed up to bake a cake and some cupcakes. It would be good practice, if nothing else.
The night before the showcase, Jazz had taken up space in the student kitchen, alongside several other students, all working on their own projects. They made chocolate and vanilla cupcakes, all topped with rainbow frosting. Their centerpiece, however, was a three-tiered funfetti cake with homemade berry jam in the middle. It was decorated with fondant paint decorations in homage to the creator of the showcase.
When it finally came time to set up, Jazz had gotten a booth near a few artists working with various media. As they stood there, Jazz watched all the happy families, chattering with their kids and wandering around. It hit them a little bit that their parents weren't going to be here. They were both muggles, and so far as they were aware, the rules said they couldn't even see Hogwarts. Jazz let out a long sigh, using their striped sleeve to wipe away a few tears they hadn't even realized had formed.
"Oh, my little cupcake. Don't you cry." Jazz quickly whirled around at the familiar voice. "M-momma?" The woman stepped forward, pulling the preteen into a hug. "We wouldn't miss your big display for anything, little bean." Dad said, stepping over to ruffle messy blonde hair. "H-how? I-I thought n-nonmagic f-folks couldn't s-see Hogwarts?" Jazz questioned, being passed over to Bowen for a hug. "Well, we have the Governess to thank for that one. Remember, the woman who brought you your letter? She helped us study for an exam about magic, and now we're able to see magic things."
"That includes you, little bean." Dad teased, poking Jazz's nose. At least that caused them to laugh as Momma wiped Jazz's tears away again before kissing them on top of the head. "I-I followed y-your recipe! Y-you can have o-one!" The preteen showed off the cake display, glad to have their parents here with them at long last. It was super stressful being so far from home.

Racheal 'Rey' Eir Ross-Heulwen Hufflepuff │ Third Year │ Thirteen Years Old │ Single
Despite all the notices and all the excitement that was building in the castle, the arrival of the Talent Showcase still came almost as a surprise to Rey. The little redheaded Hufflepuff was so busy with all her myriad projects and her class assignments that she nearly forgot to do anything herself. With her family coming to the school, she couldn’t sit by and do nothing; she didn’t want to disappoint Mamma Laili and Nani, and, like the whole family, by not doing anything for the showcase.
Of course, she was helping Cousin Lewis where she could, and she put together her own display of her work. It wasn’t as big as other people’s displays, and it took her a while to figure out what she felt comfortable displaying, including her Monet-inspired Impressionistic paintings of some of the places she’d seen, in person and in photographs. Where she really blossomed was in her skill as a baker; already she was getting closer to being as good as Alice, but she’d really need to step up her game to match the leader of the Culinary Club. She’d progressed quite a bit from being a subsistence cook for her and her erstwhile foster siblings.
For the day’s events, the little redhead was wearing a cute lavender skirt a friend was kind enough to give her and a floral print blouse with short, puffed sleeves, and a pair of white slip-on shoes, as she knew she’d be on her feet and walking on uneven ground for much of the day. Currently, she was walking about looking at other displays, and she had a covered basket which she filled up with batches of her Blondies, made with white chocolate and homemade butterscotch chips. They were warm, soft, chewy, and ready to be paired with a tall, cold glass of milk.
Walking about, she soon saw a fellow ginger, and she approached him with a warm smile, and a basket of Blondies. “Hi, I’m Rey. Is this your display?”
