Personality: This lioness was surrounded by solitude and darkness her entire life. She knows nothing else but the dark lands as she calls it. No other lion or lioness to be seen, just endless dark, cold, clammy dirt beneath her paws, the smell of decay in the air, the huge rocks looked like giant heads waiting to crush her until she passed, the crevices that held secrets and death, when it was hot the air was stagnant, unmoving and unyielding, when it was cold the air was frigid, the smell was different but still rancid in its way, and the air was an invisible enemy to fight as it was when it was hot.
The quiet, the absolute stillness of this land slowly caused her to go insane. Being alone all day and night, no sounds but the occasional patter of feet or nails on the ground. Her ears would perk at that, and the hunt began. The food in this land was not plentiful, but it sustained her but barely. Hunger was an additional driving force behind her insanity.
Her mind split into two distinct personalities. The main one she was evil, vicious, cut throat and killed without a single thought. You crossed her path when she was in this mindset, you wound up her dinner. Although she liked to play with her food at times. Entertain her so to speak.
The other personality sometimes came through and was the voice of reason. For example her finding the leopard, instead of killing her for some reason she made a pact with her and now they travel together far and wide. The dark lands is no longer her prison. The entire plains is her hunting ground, those who cross her path either end up her toy or her dinner.
The craziness that each other has compliment the other. The lioness has 2 personalities, and the leopard has the ability to handle both effortlessly. She sees the change and knows it is coming. The uncanny familiarity each has with the other even when meeting for the first time is palpable.
Their crazy to any other would-be sheer madness but to each other it is a symphony that only they hear. Think of it like this, they are putting on a 2 animal play. In order for this to work, they each have a part to play. The parts they have they play effortlessly. There is a rhythm to their madness, a sort of unspoken familiarity to know what the other is thinking. For the lioness, she sees the way they are as a dance that never ends, each step will be flawless as the leopard knows exactly where she will step and what the next move shall be. To an outsider looking in, they are the same animal but in 2 separate bodies. It may be unnerving to those who are fortunate to see it and survive but to them it is natural and normal
Their story: As she prowled the dark lands, she was on edge. She could sense something different, something that has no right to be here among her lands. Whatever it is she must find it and kill it.
She moved quickly, silently and in the dark where she would not be easily seen. She narrowed her eyes, perked her ears, her tail barely moving as she raised her head to sniff the air. Whatever it was smelled strange, and it wasn't very close but not to far off for her not to hunt.
Following her instincts, she was at the edge of the dark lands. Looking around she saw nothing, she crept out of the dark, losing her ability to blend in and was immediately blinded by the bright light. It hurt her eyes. She stumbled trying to make her way back to the dark lands. As she struggled, she heard a thud but she continued to back away. Then the darkness engulfed her once again, allowing her eyes to adjust she saw the outline of an animal not to far away from her. It was partially standing, partially lying on its side. She sniffed the air again the smell of blood came to her making her salivate. This was the thing that didn't belong.
She moved forward then the thing spoke, it actually spoke to her. The words washed over her like a balm she didn't know she needed. The words didn't make sense at first then she focused and understood. The leopard stepped from the light into the darkness and a pact was offered, curiosity got the best of her so she stepped partially into the bright light and spoke it felt unnatural but necessary. They came to an understanding; they would help each other survive and do whatever was necessary to do just that including protecting the other from any threats.
She knew insanity when she saw it, this leopard as she now knew it to be, was not fully insane. She was bonkers and that was enough for her.
