Violetta was the heir to the throne. She was engaged until she called it off. She almost couldn't believe her father had left it up to her to make that decision on timing, but it was more like it wasn't something he could be bothered with. Which made sense for how he worked and usually felt about her. She still didn't understand how she didn't remember Stefan, or rather, Fane from when they were younger. She had been wracking her brain trying to figure it out and only had managed to pull a few memories where she'd never been able to recognize his face but now, she did. And what were the chances that he was the one she ran into the that first day!? She was giving herself a headache and the memory of how they first met, the only time they had met if she was being honest, at the academy made her think of something. There was an art gallery here. She heaved a heavy sigh before pushing herself up from the chair in her room, her hands pressed against the desk as she stood. She needed to clear her head and focus on something else other than what was going on. So, art it was. She made sure that she was dressed but didn't put a jacket on or anything over her dress shirt despite the fact she could hear her mother's voice in the back of her head about looking the part of the princess. Especially now that she was to be named heir. She had been actively avoiding her brother, Kieran, because she knew he hadn't reacted well to the news.

As she walked out of her dorm, pulling the door shut behind her she glanced around the hall before heading in the direction of the art gallery if she could remember how to get there. As she moved, she absentmindedly picked at the straps she wore over her shirt and tilted her head slightly. Chronos and Shahiti. That would have been convenient for both kingdoms, but she understood the dilemma. She wouldn't ever ask someone to leave their kingdom for the sake of her own when she herself wouldn't do it. The weight of the decision her father had come to weighed heavily because he didn't explain why, and it left questions running through her mind. She didn't know what had happened while she was there that changed his mind, nor who he had reporting back to him about goings on. Surely it wasn't Kieran, and Cass avoided their father when he could. Even easier for him now. She was glad the heat was off his shoulders, but the fact that it was now on her kind of bothered her. While part of her wanted to ask him why he chose her, the other part of her knew to leave it be. She probably didn't want to know, and as she pressed her hand against the door to the art gallery her lips curled into a grimace. It probably had something to do with Jack and how she lost her cool that day.

Sighing again she stepped inside and began slowly moving along the aisles that held the paintings and different art pieces. She noted that they had where they were from next to them as if trying to paint a picture that each kingdom had its own good points. She paused by one that was labelled as from her home kingdom and looked up at it from the label. Dark, gloomy and depressing. Yeah, that sounded about right. She tilted her head slightly, looking closer at it for a little longer. Something about it seemed oddly familiar and after a silent moment it clicked. She curled her lips up into a smile. " Touche, mother." she muttered under her breath. She knew she recognized it. It was one that she admired from the castle, no doubt a little touch from her mother to get something her daughter liked in the same building. She moved on after silently thanking her mother in her head, before she walked only a few more down and pausing again, her blue eyes flicking over towards one that was made in Chronos. She turned her body to look at it, her hands casually in her pockets and arms relaxed as she looked at it. She knew she had to find Stefan eventually, but the fact that she was worried about it made her wonder how he'd react. Her expression was one of calmness on the outside, but she was feeling the pressure already, even if she was able to keep her mask up when the chances of being seen were quite high.

                                                                            WHO WITH: Alone

His engagement was not news. This was a fact that had rocked him to his core when he was eighteen. The driving force that had sent Sverre skittering out of his life before he had half of a moment to explain everything. A thing that had fractured the most important relationship in his life when he needed it most. No, his engagement was not an easy thing to forget.

                                        Well, technically it was.

But did that really count when it was one of the first things that he refreshed every time? It was a core memory, one that colored every other part of his life up to this moment. The problem had more so been that he hadn't realized that he had already met his fiance at this school once more and didn't realize it.

He's been curious about her once. Long ago when his memory wasn't as fractured. He'd heard his stepmother mentioning that Fane had met the princess once when they were small. Sverre was gone by then, and in his absence it had felt natural to skim through the past and look for her. It had felt odd. Unpleasant. Looking at a child and knowing that her current counterpart would be his wife one day. Being unable to imagine what she would look like as a woman.

If he was a betting man, Fane would wager that was why he didn't recognize her in the gallery on the first night. Or, you know, because he hadn't had access to his power in the moment to flick through and realize she shared a name with his betrothed. And there was only one Violetta in this school.

The day had been long and Sverre was still giving him the cold shoulder. He wasn't interested in trying to figure out why again. Not when all he could find in time was everyone taking a nap. It was exhausting pouring over the same point in time and not having a single clue. So instead he would walk. Fane needed to walk. To burn some of this anxious energy that was crackling under his skin. It also probably had something to do with why he was thinking of his fiance. And why his feet carried him to the very same gallery they had met in that first day.

Normally the room was empty. Today it housed the very woman who was on his mind. His eyes darted past her form, realizing that she was looking at a painting of Wicklefeder. The small little town on the edge of the capital where he'd spent enough time to be able to easily recognize it as long as he had access to his powers. Crossing his arms over his chest, he watched her for a moment.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" The question echoed through the room despite the fact that he hadn't said it particularly loudly. Pushing off of the door frame, Fane pulled himself into the room proper. Settling in beside her, he continued. "One day you'll be able to see it in person."

Violetta had shifted her weight, tapping the toe of her boot on the floor as she pushed one hand into the pocket of her pants. She knew that the chances of running into her fiancé were actually pretty high all things considered and part of her wondered what he was like. Would she had been happy with him? While she knew there wasn't much point in putting thought towards the subject now, with the new events that took place, she found herself doing so anyway. She didn't hear him coming to the entrance of the hall and so when he asked his question, the words echoed past her. Her eyes widened and she turned her head slightly as he pushed off the doorframe and walked up next to her. Well, that was quite the coincidence. HIs next words took her even farther off guard.

"One day you'll be able to see it in person."

If she didn't recognize him from the first day at the school, that certainly confirmed it. He knew about them and what they were meant to be. She forced her expression to shift back to one of calm as she exhaled out her nose and smiled slightly. ' He's smooth when he wants to be.' she found herself thinking before she moved her gaze back to the painting and tilted her head slightly. " It is beautiful. We don't have such scenes as this back home, it's mostly gloomy unless someone sneaks in a colorful flower here and there." and even then, it was quickly snuffed out by her father's imposing presence, but that did not need to be said out loud. She did not know if he knew of where she was from, but the chances that he did were very high considering how long this had been in the works. She was appalled when she was told how long this engagement had been ongoing and nobody had bothered to remind her. The last time they saw each other and recognized the other she was a mere child. She probably had long hair, and life in her eyes too. That would have been before her father decided to punish her for being almost kidnapped, which had led to her brother and sister-in-law being set into the horrible chain of events that changed him.

Her eyes shifted back over towards Fane as she relaxed her shoulders, she couldn't help but wonder if he was disappointed, even if she was meant to call things off, did he want a betrothed who was more traditionally feminine? That's the farthest thing from what she aimed to be, and she knew that she likely wouldn't change so even if he did long for that it was something that he would get the chance to have. At least now that she was to take the throne in lieu of Cass. " I had been meaning to come find you, eventually. Conveniently we both had the same idea." she hesitated a moment before she closed her eyes, and her head moved back forward towards the painting. " We haven't seen each other since we were kids, if I recall. That first day being an exception." she felt foolish for not having remembered, although her father had put her and her siblings through lots of stuff, and all of it not good. Perhaps she had blocked that memory out but either way, here they were.

Life had a funny way of bringing people together and today was no exception. At least she hadn't needed to search for him, but she figured she should enjoy the time she did have and try to enjoy his company while she could. She knew things were a little tense between them but after not speaking to one another after such a long time would do that. She knew that eventually she had to break the news to him, and she didn't know what to expect for a response, but she found herself curious about the man who was once due to be her husband. " I was hoping we could talk, catch up a little bit." she tilted her head slightly to the side, her eyes opening and moving back to the painting, looking at the little details; she almost wished she could have seen it, knowing it wasn't likely to happen now she actually felt a little bit sad. It would have been nice to see a new environment other than her own home.

                                                                            WHO WITH: Fane

The idea of living somewhere that sounded so gloomy was stifling to him. Hard to imagine. Sure, there were parts of Chronos that were dull and grey. But those were just the factory districts in the big cities. Otherwise the architecture and banners that were always strung up for that month's festival were warm and inviting.

But then again Shahiti was the kingdom of the darkness, wasn't it?

Shifting his weight to bounce off of the wall, Fane stepped further into the room and closer to the woman who had been his fiance for most of his life. This was something that he'd been avoiding for long enough. It was time to confront it. Especially when she mentioned that she'd been looking for him. His eyes darted to the side, taking in the paintings around them like they were far more interesting than he really found them at the comment.

It really was a shame that she'd been looking for him. Because he'd been avoiding her. Talking about their engagement was fairly low on things he wanted to do. He was already a disappointment to most of his family at this point, he wasn't exactly excited to meet the woman who had unintentionally chased off his first love and find out she also thought he was lackluster in every way.

An awkward cough wheezed out of him, one he caught in his fist. Then he threaded his hand through his long hair before letting it drop to hang off of his own shoulder. "If it helps, I didn't recognize you that first day. Not until our names were called out in dance class." Thankfully, from the way she was speaking she also didn't recognize him. Which meant they were even and she couldn't hate him for it.

Watching her look back at the painting of his home almost wistfully had him a little stumped. Was she... was she actually looking forward to their marriage? From the look of her, he hadn't expected her to be the type to get excited about becoming a blushing bride. But Fane was also a moron. His opinion couldn't be trusted. Letting his hand soften and drip off of his shoulder, he offered her a smile. "Yeah, I think I would like that."

A smile turned his lips, looking at all of the paintings of kingdoms around them. "Hear me out, let's play a game. Make up for lost time and all that. We can trade things about us and if you have any questions you're free to ask them of me. And I'll ask you mine." A small frown settled over his lips as he tried to find what he was looking for. Finally, he brightened and turned back to Violetta.

"I'll go first. Which kingdom, if there was never a war and we could go anywhere would you want to visit? As a bonus -" Cutting himself off, Fane gently took Violetta's hand in his to guide her in front of a paining of people in a bustling outdoor market with canopies of colorful cloth overhead where people seemed to be dancing in the streets. "For me it would be Musique."

Violetta was surprised that he too didn't recognize her. Although she should have been too surprised with how long it had been. When their names were called out, she hadn't even put it together but even after that neither of them had actively sought each other out. She felt bad for it, but he didn't seem to act like he was bothered by it, so she tried to put some of her worry to bed. She didn't know how much he even knew about her, or how much he wanted to know about her. At least she knew he'd talk to her, so he couldn't be too mad at her about not approaching him. She breathed out and smiled slightly though, glancing over to him. " I'm glad it was not just me." She really was, after everything her father had put her through, she was never sure if her memories were true to how she felt with them or not. Her eyes lit up with curiosity as he began to mention playing a game. She wasn't sure what he meant but his words made sense, to make up for lost time and getting to know the other person. When she thought about it, other couples that were meant to be married probably spent more time with one another. She had hardly gotten the time to talk to him since they arrived and that very first time was by absolute chance.

Violetta tilted her head slightly as he looked off, the slight frown making her wonder what he was looking for. She was actually looking forward to getting to know him, even if she ultimately had to break it to him that this was all broken in the end. She would at least have made an effort to get to know the man she was going to marry, right? She blinked when he took her hand and pulled her over to another painting, her eyes widening for a moment before she glanced down and then up, allowing her hand to slowly close around his in return. She hadn't known many people to willingly touch her for one reason or another, so this was actually kind of nice.

She looked up at the painting and she breathed out, a small smile forming on her lips. " Musique, huh?" she had never really thought about it, where would she go if she were able? And without the impact of the war on top of that. She hadn't known much life outside of Shahiti but from what Graham had told her about Alore that was one place she'd stay right away from. Although the concept of a place that was so bright and full of life truly did make her curious. Surely not all places were as dark and gloomy as her home. " I think if it came down it...I think I'd say Uilum. It's quite fascinating what they can do with the powers they have, and many of the practical uses for it." there she was, rationalizing her decision. Her eyes looked around the room from where they stood, wondering if there was an art piece from there. She finally looked back to the one he brought her to without spotting one. " I know the answer might be....obvious, but why Musique?" she asked softly, she found herself curious about this man and how comfortable she actually was with him holding her hand.

                                                                            WHO WITH: Fane

The feeling of her hand closing around his took longer than Fane expected. For about forty six and a half seconds he was worried that he had overstepped his bounds. Some people didn’t like being touched. Especially not by strangers. And yeah, sure they weren’t technically strangers, but did that really mean s**t in the grand scheme of things. They weren’t exactly close enough for Fane to be aware of his fiancé’s preferences.

But then her hand did close around his and he mentally chided himself for freaking out about it. Not that it showed on his face. No, he was looking back at her, cool as a cucumber waiting to see what her reaction to his little game was. By some miracle it was positive. Thank Jesus. The last thing he wanted to do was try to backpedal out of this. If he had to, he would. Fane would backpedal like his little noodle legs worked that hard every day.

Thank god he didn’t have to backpedal.

His easy smile shifted into a look of thoughtfulness. ”I’m starting to think you have better reasons for wanting to visit Uilum.” There was no malice in his tone. Just amusement as he squeezed her hand in encouragement. ”But since you asked, I can present you with a ten page list. I’ll make sure to bring it with me next time. For now, the highlights are that: One, it looks pretty. Two, can you imagine seeing a play the week it’s released? Instead of having to wait seven years for it to come over the border and by then it’s so stripped bare because of trade secrets that it’s definitely not the same. Three, I hear the food is great.”

His last reason was a lie. He did not know s**t about the food of Musique. He’d jokingly promised a list and was trying to deliver on it. If that meant making up a reason or two, so be it. Besides, it wasn’t like Fane was picky. As long as it was edible and not, like, roasted giant pill bugs, he was sure he would be fine.

Worst case, it was easier to choke down weird food when you were high.

Blue eyes looked sidelong at Violeta, his easy smile slowly becoming toothier. ”For the record, I am counting that as a freebie since it had to do with my question. If you have another question you can still ask it before I ask my next turn.”

Violetta wasn't expecting his smile to make her stomach flutter as it did. She was used to people looking at her like she was intimidating or stuck up, perhaps she was getting better at dealing with people than she realized she was. She blinked when he mentioned her reasons for visiting Ulium and she exhaled through her nose, a quiet laugh escaping her before she raised her free hand to brush the corner of her lips almost out of embarrassment. " Ah, you've got me." she wasn't sure how she was feeling this relaxed around him, but she found herself enjoying it. She might as well enjoy the time they had while they still had it, right? Sure, she could tell him right away but part of her didn't want to. They had such a long-standing engagement she wanted to at least end while on good terms with him, even if it wouldn't change what happened between them. He made all very good points about Musique, and she felt her lips slowly form a small smile. She was almost sad, she would have to find the time to go visit there herself, and while she would say it could be with him, she knew better. " Those all sound like wonderful reasons. I suppose... I have similar for wanting to go anywhere other than home." she knew she shouldn't complain, but she wanted to be honest with him at least in this regard. " Shahiti isn't a bad kingdom, it's just dark. Gloomy. Musique seems like it's so full of life and Ulium takes the people into consideration even when they don't have to. At least, from what I have heard."

If she was being fair, she knew a lot of what she knew was as he said, filtered and stripped of the original uniqueness that it held. Especially with her father being who he was. She unintentionally tightened her hand around his slightly at the thought of what he would say to her casually having a conversation with the man she was once supposed to be with; likely telling her to go on with it so he could set up her next engagement.

She looked over towards him at the same time as he did, meeting his gaze. She brought her free hand up again and pressed her hand to her chin in thought. What was a question she had for him? Sure, before this she had never really recalled having a fiancé in the first place but surely, she still had questions. It only took her a moment to come up with one, and while she was curious, she hoped this wouldn't be prying. " I'm sure this would have come up organically but, I can't help but find myself wondering..." she tentatively looked back over to him, wording her question carefully. " Do you have siblings? And, as part of it.... is your relationship good with them?" while she had her uncle who she was basically raised with, she had never gotten along with her brother. It bothered her slightly, but she knew that most people probably had good relationships with their family. She knew better than to ask about his father, as soon as she heard his name she had done research on his father, especially since he was actively on the throne at this time. She wasn't about to bring up something that likely would bring the conversation down.

                                                                            WHO WITH: Fane

When she spoke of home her voice seemed to dip. Fane wasn’t sure if it was resignation, melancholy, or some combination of the two, but whatever it was told him that Violetta did not love Shahiti. There was a part of him that wanted to flicker through time, to see what he knew about her kingdom to compare to her drab explanation of it. The risk, however, felt too great. Like he would expose too much of himself. Parts of himself that he was far too used to keeping entirely private.

”If you ask me, that’s the wonderful thing about being next in line,” Fane paused, looking at Violetta out of the corner of his eyes. He waited until he noticed her looking at him, letting his smile crinkle the corners of his eyes. ”There are so many things I want for my people and, yes, change is hard. But when you devote yourself to it, it can happen.” Granted, it would be hard for her to make significant change in Shahiti from the Chronos throne. If she felt so strongly about her kingdom in that way though, it wasn’t crazy to hope that whatever sibling she had that would take the throne also felt that way. Maybe they could start the fight for change in her stead. And worst case, the whole point of their marriage was to forge a peace treaty between their kingdoms. Worst case they could provide sanctuary to Shahitians as needed or something. He could find a way to make it work in the people first policies he’d been heading.

                                        Probably.

The squeeze to his hand drew his attention back to the woman beside him. Then her question rang out between them and Fane could not help his laughter. ”Oh god,” His free hand came up and wiped a small tear from his eye as he offered her an apologetic grin. ”Sorry, I just…” The hand not still entwined with hers was now making gestures as if it would help him find the right words. ”I certainly wasn’t expecting that.”

It was Fane’s turn to gently squeeze Violetta’s hand, offering her an iota of encouragement. ”I wish I could give you the answer I think you want to hear. I really do.” He sighed, the action deflating him and making his shoulders slump. His hand threaded through his hair while he stalled, trying to find the best way to admit his relationship with his sisters. ”I have two sisters. Irene… Well, I never quite know what’s going on in her head. I hope she likes me and that everything between us is okay. Though, even if it wasn’t, I would still do everything in my power to make her happy.” Sucking in a breath, he couldn’t help but let out another peal of laughter. ”Addie though? Jesus above she hates my guts and makes sure I know it.” Despite the macabre admission, his eyes still twinkled as he spoke of his little sisters. ”I love her with every fiber of my being despite it. If I could give her the world I would, but for now I’m happy with just protecting her from the shadows.”

The twinkle stayed in his eyes as he focused back on Violetta. Gentle hands pulled her along to the next painting in the row before reaching up and tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. ”Since we’re asking the hard hitting questions now, what’s on your mind? We’re supposed to be a safe place together, so let me shoulder some of it.”

Violetta wasn't sure how to feel when it came to her family and being next in line, especially with it being so new. So, when he said that it was nice to be next in line she tensed slightly momentarily before she looked over at him. His smile made her relax slightly and she listened as he spoke of change and how hard it was. Oh how little he knew. She couldn't help but smile slightly herself though and she thought to what she could possibly accomplish herself. If perhaps she got out from her father's thumb, made some genuine allies, she could turn things around. She would have to keep an eye out from her brother because if his reaction to the news said anything, he wasn't happy. He made it obvious too, from his comments and the way she reacted to them and lost her cool. She still hated that they saw her like that, but at least it was just her family, right?

That was part of the reason why she was so curious about Fane and his siblings. She knew that the way they were raised couldn't be normal, and if it was it, was a twisted world. So, when he began to laugh, she knew her surprise showed; however, as the laughing slowed down, she breathed out in relief. He wasn't laughing at her question, just not having expected it. " Yeah, siblings are... curious to me. To say the least." she rubbed the back of her neck as she looked away almost in embarrassment. Was it really such a funny question to ask? She turned back to look at him as he answered and she listened closely. Sure, enough it sounded far more normal than her own relationship with her brothers. Even the newest one that she had not even known existed. Was it surprising? Not in the slightest.

When he spoke of how he felt about them she relaxed a little. So, people did have caring siblings, that was good. She breathed out a quiet laugh at the thought of someone hating him. He seemed to be so even-tempered and calm, she didn't understand how someone could hate him so. Perhaps that was the thing about siblings that never changed. " At least she has someone who genuinely cares about her. That sounds nice." she didn't know if her voice gave away the hint of longing that she felt had begun to grow a little bit inside her. She had Graham on her side but that was hard to push especially when he had his own things to deal with. She looked back over to him again as he questioned her back again and she felt her tension return to her shoulders. ' Oh I don't know, maybe the sudden change of power and the fact that I have run into you many times and didn't realize we were still officially engaged. Only to have to call it off without even getting to know you better.' she had fallen silent as she thought to herself and she breathed out to calm herself. " There's...been a lot going on." she had moved along with him to the next painting but honestly, he mind had left the art and was now focused on the man she was holding hands with. His hand brushing her hair behind her ear had a slight heat rising on her face, she hadn't had much comforting touch that made her feel like she was being pressured into something. However, with Fane she didn't feel any tension.

                                                                            It felt almost abnormal.

She found it hard to look away from him, so she chose not to, although she didn't know what to say for a moment. " My father, he..." she paused before continuing. For some reason she didn't want to have the moment end with him, and if she blurted out that they were over he would no longer have any reason to be in her presence, and she wouldn't blame him if he left. " He's made some changes that are causing problems, and it's been a challenge to navigate them. Especially for me and my brother." her voice wavered at the end as she began to dig her nail into her palm. She didn't know how much Fane knew of her family and the reputation her father had made for himself.

                                                                            WHO WITH: Fane

Her laugh was so quiet he almost didn't hear it. Just a soft, gentle whisper of a thing. A shame, really, because it was a nice laugh. Still, he continued on the topic of Adelaide, giving as much context to the situation Violetta would be stumbling headfirst into. "I don't blame her, really. Our family has always been fractured, to say the least. I am little more than the oversized ******** up, something Addie's mother hasn't let me forget. I think she forgives me for all of the grief I caused as a child, though I know she always worried about my influence on Addie and tried to keep us separate. I..." Fane hesitated, not sure just how much he was willing to admit. They were all things that would be learned in time, but he was also on a timer as to how much he would remember. If he didn't share more of himself now his memories would slip away like smoke. "I'm not entirely sure Addie's willing to understand her mother was the one keeping us apart. For now, that's okay. I'll bear the weight of that burden for her if it's what she needs."

The weight of Violetta's silence hung heavy over them for a moment. Her eyes looked tired, like she was thinking through everything that could possibly be making her upset and trying to find the right words for them. Slowly he pulled his hand out of her grip, using the moment of freedom to flicker through his time to make sure nothing was slipping away. Then his hand came to cup her cheek, skating his thumb over her cheekbone in a soothing gesture. "I can practically see you thinking." The smile on his face was easy, a small thing meant to reassure Violetta that he was teasing. Her slow response was enough to tell Fane that he hadn't stepped on any toes.

When she finally admitted that Shahiti was attempting to make changes, his brow furrowed. What did he know about Shahiti and their current politics? Nothing much, unfortunately, without the use of his power. With his palm firmly pressed against Violetta's cheek, there was no way he was risking projecting time. If he was lucky it might just make her woozy the way it did to Sverre. If he was unlucky she could end up keeled over puking up her lunch on his shoes. If he was extremely unlucky she would use it against him. And while he hoped Violetta wasn't that sort of woman, at the end of the day Fane didn't know her well enough to risk it.

Instead Fane shook his head, offering advise as he could. "There's a funny thing about being king. Many forget their purpose and make changes to boost their own ego. They forget about the people and the kingdom and do things that make them feel powerful and self important. Like my father." Fane did not hide his scoff at the mention of his father. Instead the noise slipped out of him then he made a face like he'd surprised himself by making it. As that face melted away into a laugh, he gingerly swiped his thumb back over Violetta's cheek again. "How we are written in history is determined by the people. Anything a prior king has done can be untangled with patience. The future is what we decide to make with it."

The break between them, parents pushing boundaries and making the relationship worse. The more she heard the more she realized they were more alike than she had previously given credit. Not necessarily in a good way, but she wasn't going to feel bad if she admitted a few things to him in return then. She would have laughed that it all was a stupid situation created by their parents, but it wasn't funny. The way the older generation played mind games with them and grew this conflict that they now had to work their way through that they didn't create. She let out a soft breath before she nodded slowly. " I'm sure eventually she'll come around, even if when she's a little bit older." her voice was quiet at first before she shifted at his hand leaving hers. She immediately had a feeling of loss, but she hid it behind her eyes as she breathed out. She knew that other parents could be just as controlling but she hadn't realized that was the case with Chronos. She wasn't paying attention briefly before she felt a warm hand touching her cheek. She blinked and looked up at him, his thumb moving along her cheek was a new but comforting feeling. His words initially made her tense up but when her eyes spotted his smile, she allowed herself to relax, kind of. Was he teasing her? She wasn't used to people being so relaxed around her and to even go so far as to tease her, especially in what looked like a kind way. ' This is so nice, actually.' she found herself thinking before she closed her eyes and tilted her head slightly into his touch.

She listened to his words of advice, partway through her eyes opening as she pressed her lips together in a thin line. Ah, so she was right not to mention his father previously. She looked up at him before she lifted her hand up and rested it over his as it remained on her cheek. She had never been a touchy person, but then again, she was never raised to be that way. She had never thought about her new rule over Shahiti in that way, sure, her father's reign would be shadowing behind her, but she didn't have to do the same things he did. In fact, she could do the opposite and make a difference one step at a time. It would be hard, but it was doable, or so she hoped. She allowed a slight smile to flicker across her lips as she nodded her head. " That sounds like a lot of hard work, but all worth it." she had heard about what happened to his father although she didn't know all the details and she sure wasn't about to ask. The look on his face though made her think he wasn't a huge fan of him. " My father has made a lot of choices throughout his rule, and a lot of them not so good. Sure, we get things done but they're done so..." she paused, trailing off for a moment before she found the word. " Unnecessarily cruel." she didn't know the reputation that Shahiti carried around to other kingdoms, but it couldn't be good, especially not to a certain few. She hoped Chronos wasn't one of those, because if their engagement was still on it wouldn't make any sense.

" I hope one day both of our kingdoms will be able to turn the table and get to sort out their own problems." she finished the sentence in her head; with words she didn't want to say out loud yet. ' Even if we'll have to do it apart and both on the throne.' she didn't know how ruthless she'd have to be at first, but she would do what she needed to. She had a feeling Fane was the same way and he'd do what needed to be done for his people, it was almost reassuring to her. She raised her head back up and met his eyes for a moment longer. She found herself wondering what it would like if he gave her a kiss on the cheek like Stephano did, and she exhaled as her eyes flicked down to his lips then away. ' No, he probably wouldn't be interested in something like that.' she knew how active a lot of people were, but this was a political alliance above all. Her hand that was on the outside of his slipped slightly, her arm tensing as she almost pulled it away.
