Plot: After Elara arrived to the school late she made some friends in history class, even if it was in a way that wasn't ideal. She still had yet to find her best friend, and she held onto the hope that she would be just as excited to see her, but will she see a different side of Alei? How will she react?
Characters: Elara and Alei

It had been a long day after the way history class ended. She wasn't pleased with how it went, never mind the fact that she hadn't found Alei yet. She had tried to take a look around when they got back but it was to no avail because somehow the other girl evaded her. She knew that her friend probably didn't know where she was, and it had been years since they had actually seen each other in person but that didn't stop the mercurian girl from being excited. With a quick greeting to her fellow duke, Stefano she believed his name was, she was off to classes and her experiments in her room.

That very evening she put her glasses on and headed out, the strain from classes and what happened with her powers in history class really began to give her a headache so she had to suffer through wearing her glasses and having to be careful. As she walked along the hallways she ran her hand along the wall, her head tilted to the side as she hummed to herself. She looked in any door she found, exploring while she headed towards the library as that was where she figured she could start looking for her. She had a recent painting of her at him and had her image in her mind so she knew who she was looking for but that was about it. Even when the girls had met before she couldn't help but notice how proper she was, a big difference compared to the way her family raised her. Perhaps that was why they got along so well? They did say opposites attracted. She was pretty sure that was with love though. Although she did love her! She was her best friend, of course she loved her. She didn't know what Alei considered her to be, but she certainly planned on making sure that the other girl knew she was on her side no matter what.

She continued to trail her hand along and she raised up on to her toes as she attempted to balance as she walked. She focused on doing so, missing a couple of doors in the process before she almost fell over and she side stepped to keep herself upright. She found herself in front of a door that made her eyes light up. The Library! Not only was this the perfect place for Alei to hide out, she wanted to see the room anyway. She was excited to see what a library so big looked like! She pushed the doors open and took in a deep breath before she almost called out loudly, but she caught herself. She wrinkled her nose slightly, she didn't want to be scolded by whoever the librarian was. She wanted to be able to keep coming back here! She began to walk the isles, her eyes looking over the titles and she grinned to herself before she came to a table where there was a figure sitting and doing what looked like reading. Elara's eyes lit up and she let out an excited squeal before she jogged over. " Aleithia? It's me, Elara!" she set her hands on the table as she smiled happily down at the girl, her curls bouncing slightly as she did so.

It had been the worst kind of day. The kind that had rattled her right down to her core, making it hard to focus on anything useful. And, of course, that was all because of history class.

It might not have been so bad. The suddenly having powers thing had been far more overwhelming that Aleithia ever would have imagined. From what she saw of the people around her getting powers naturally wasn't nearly so traumatic. They just popped into being one day, controlling them somewhat a natural thing that you then had to learn a perfect mastery over. This had been completely different in the worst kind of way. There was no control that she naturally maintained. No baseline to learn from. So it was only natural that the powers their professor had given her had no means for her to control them.

Yet, Sir Gabriel... Lord Miranda? She still didn't know how to address the Muse writer she so admired. Learning he was at the school was like a wonderful kind of dream come true. And he'd been so sweet, making sure to help calm her when she was at her absolute worst. The idea that he'd seen her that way was enough to leave her flustered, and that was before even considering the fact that everything had gone so very, very wrong. Between the near kidnapping and everything else Alei was rattled down to her very core.

So she did what she did best and had retreated to the library, finding a corner to hide in and read one of Lord Miranda's books in a plush chair that made her look impossibly small by comparison. Before her was a small table, where she had placed a few more books to read. It was better to be prepared after all if she finished the first book or three.

It had been a smart call. When she'd first come to the library she'd been so deeply unsettled that her book shook in her hands. But the longer she sat there, absorbed in a world that was not her own the more steady her hands became. The more evenly she was able to breath. His books were still the soothing balm she believed they were, thank the heavens above. So taken into the world of her book was Aleithia that she didn't hear the footsteps racing towards her.

                                                            "Aleithia? It's me, Elara!"

At first she jolted. Startling visibly as she nearly dropped the second novel of her afternoon. But thankfully she managed to keep her grip on the book as her purple eyes scanned up, taking in the older duchess that she had been permitted to exchange letters with. Then she blinked once. Twice. Elara was... here?

Slowly she brought the open book to her chest, carefully pressing it against her body to make sure she didn't crease the pages before lovingly wrapping her arms around it and offering her penpal a warm smile. "I didn't - Um. I had no idea you would be - be at Utopia." Despite the fact that she had started to come down from the harrowing experience of the day, her voice was still wavering. A small twinge of embarrassment was creeping up her spine from it, but she refused to let it prevent her from speaking to the familiar face.

"I'm so - so glad to see you Elara. Are you..." She trailed off, a small frown tugging the corners of her mouth down as she thought about their history class. "Were you there for the class?" As her brows knit together and she looked up to her friend. If the fates were kind, Elara would have missed it.

Elara hadn't seen her pen-pal for quite a while. She had last seen her in person when she had turned 17, but the letters had been going steady since then. She smiled brightly as Aleithia answered her and she nodded her head, sliding into the seat across from the other girl. " Of course! Although I'm pretty sure father sent me here to meet my fiancé." she had just finished reading the letter not too long ago and she still had the paper folded up in her pocket. She wasn't sure how to feel about it, but she knew that there was still time before she again came face to face with the man set to be her husband. At least she had met him already and he was kind enough to her, especially considering how she had physically ran into him. She leaned her head on her hands, her brown eyes shining as she folded her feet up underneath the chair. She was thrown off at first by the others question before she nodded her head again, her expression faltering slightly. " I was. I had just gotten here not too long ago, so it was... interesting, to say the least." she tilted her head a little more, pursing her lips slightly. The hallucination was annoying, she hadn't been able to use her vision or memory of the moves she knew. " I wasn't impressed with the way they took away our powers. It sucked not being able to see correctly."

Historically Elara had been open and honest with the princess, so she fully expected her to know what she meant. Even if she never asked what Aleithia's powers were, she figured they must have been something great! Especially since her letters came out to be so proper and poised; her powers too much be suited to a princess such as herself. She glanced off to the side, her eyes landing on nothing in particular. " That poison was frustrating, I'm pretty sure I dissolved my own skirt in the process but at least the shorts remained intact." she quickly turned her eyes back and smiled wide again, making the effort to slow her speech for her friend, something she had noticed that would help all those years she'd gone to see her. " I take it you were as well...? Hopefully you too found some reliable help in there, I have no experience with such a thing, so it was an entirely new feeling." she spoke quietly before she rested one hand flat on the table, her fingers tapping the wood. " ....it was only convivence that I ran into Micah, of all people, my future husband." she hadn't gone back to him about it yet, but she knew a conversation was due to take place soon. She almost thought to reach out to him herself.

At the mention of powers she couldn't help but swallow thickly. In a lot of ways Elara knew Aleithia better than many of the people in her own country. There had been things that she had mentioned to her long distance friend that she had never gotten to speak with other members of Phronesian nobility. Of course, on some level those things were read by her parents advisors. There was no way that she could just send out letters without supervision. Not when there was a possibility that the young princess could spill state secrets to nobility of another country. Which also meant that Aleithia had never been allowed to tell her dear friend that she did not have powers.

"I can, ah, only imagine how difficult that was on you. It's easy to - to take for granted our day to day when we don't think about it." Her words were chosen carefully, dancing around the subject. Even as her voice faltered. Just like it always did when she was upset. Aleithia could only hope that it went unnoticed. There was so much about the class that was haunting her, even hours after the event had passed. For years she had spent her private thoughts cursing her lack of powers and praying to any god that would listen to please give her a scrap of something. Yet this class had given her a harsh reality check that she hadn't expected. One that was leaving her questioning if she even wanted powers anymore. Especially when they could be so dangerous or unruly. "Having to adjust to the goo was..." Her voice trailed off, trying to find a polite word she could use as the thought seemed to catch in her chest.

                                                            "Unpleasant at best."

Knitting her brows together, it was all she could do to consider if that was the best she really had to explain it. But without saying too much - especially when there was someone else she wanted to admit her lack of powers to first after her panicked admission to Sir Gabriel in the hallucination - that was all she was able to come up with. Instead she latched onto the small olive branch of Elara's engagement to change the subject. Leaning forward, she carefully unfolded herself from the seat to pick up a bookmark that had been left abandoned on the table before her. Gently dislodging the book from her chest Aleithia made quick work of placing it before putting the tome down beside her.

Giving Elara her undivided attention, she hesitantly asked her first question. "You found your fiance there?" Quickly, she backtracked. "I mean, the odds - um - the odds of that are so low. It would be more l-luck than convenience." Her purple eyes narrowed as they darted around to make sure the pair were alone, her voice lowering. "Did... did you find him attractive? Or at least likable?"

                                                            ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Elara had been around her friend in person not quite as often as she had hoped initially, but enough to pick up on a few tells from her voice. As someone who was very vocal Elara learned from a young age to pay attention to how and what people did as they spoke. She had gotten used to Aleithia's speech pattern and picked up on the slight shift in her voice, the falter in particular, but she didn't make note of it herself. She just kept it in mind as she pursed her lips slightly. " Once I realized it messed up my vision was when I really got disoriented, but thankfully my glasses remained on my person somehow. If I didn't have them I'd have really been blind." and while blind wasn't the right word, she would have certainly been in trouble when it came to dealing with other people or getting lost. She was lucky she had run into Micah when she had, because otherwise she certainly would have been in a much worse situation. She nodded her head in agreement, a light groan of complaint leaving her lips. " That's putting it mildly. Gave me a headache." she could still feel it throbbing at the back of her head from earlier in the day.

Elara tilted her head as Aleithia asked her next question and she leaned forward slightly too, nodding softly but her eyes shone with excitement. " To be fair, I didn't know until I got this." she pulled a note out of her pocket, the official Mercury seal on it even though pulled up. " My parents made quick work of it when I turned of age, apparently making sure it only got to me once I got here." she knew it was pure luck that she'd ran into him when and where she did, and Alei was right. Her next quieter question made an excited sound leave the duchess as she tucked away the letter again. She didn't want the wrong person to see the seal but she knew that her friend knew exactly where she was from already, so it was fine. " He's very nice! I don't know how much older, but he fought in the war, so a few years at least. They didn't mention which kingdom he was from or which spot he was in line but they did tell me he was a prince. Which is really exciting and intimidating in it's own way."

Her brown eyes looked up to the top of the bookshelf behind her friend as she thought hard on something before speaking again. " And I'm only guessing on if it was him, but I'm pretty sure it was. They told me his name, Micah, but that's about it. The man I ran into," a pause as she laughed and pulled her eyes back to Aleithia, " and I mean quite literally ran into, told me his name was Micah. He was tall and had this long red hair that looked so soft." she knew she was rambling a little bit but she hoped that her friend was still to the point where she'd let her know if it was too much. She didn't want to offend or overshadow her at all. " How has your time here been? I know I'm getting here late, did I miss anything major?" she folded her feet under her chair and smiled curiously at Aleithia.

The idea of a romantic encounter at the school was something her dreamy little heart couldn't resist. It was why Aleithia found herself leaning forward as Elara described her new fiance. The way he was being described was giving the girl daydreams of her childhood friend having a fairy tale romance. The kind that she dreamed of. The kind that had knights on white horses and happily ever afters.

Still, her lips pressed together and she let out a soft hum in understanding. "I can understand that." The change in topic was helping sooth her nerves and with it her speech. "I don't think my parents have any plans for anyone specific once I come of age, but..." Trailing off for a moment, Alei's mouth set into a small frown. This wasn't something she had talked to her parents about. It wasn't something she had talked to Evelyn or Stephanie about. It just felt like a truth. Like it was the only thing she could do for Phronese.

"There is an expectation that I use this experience as a means of looking. I think there would be some - some disappointment if I wasn't able to present at least valid options to my parents once I come of age."

It wasn't something she had ever voiced before, yet as she did the truth in her words rang out in her ears. Shaking off the thought - very literally with a small shake of her head - she turned her violet eyes back to her friend. "He sounds handsome. And kind. Being a prince is also nice, since you'll always be taken care of. Do you... Do you think you could have a good life with him?"

It felt like a nosy little question, but it was one that she couldn't ignore. Maybe if Elara was having a good experience with her own arranged marriage, Aleithia could too. Her mind flashed to Nadia for a moment, her cheeks taking on a small flush. If she was lucky, then she would be able to find someone from Thah who would take her and they could remain close. That would be the best she could hope for... right?

Being brought back to the idea of classes, Aleithia shook her head. "For the most part it's been much like having a tutor, but with seventy other people getting the same lesson as you. It's not wholly unpleasant, but I don't think you missed much." A small frown tugged at her lips. One that was born of her trying to think of anything interesting that had happened in the last month. Elara knew that she was often told that she talked way too much, and far too fast. Thankfully she had never felt that Aleithia ever felt like she was a burden and that made her feel better. She didn't like to make anyone feel like they weren't able to get a word in, but she was also happy when she could carry the conversation and help out in moments like this. As Alei's speech began to ease up a little bit Elara smiled happily, even if she didn't mention it much, she was always glad when the younger princess was able to speak comfortably. She noticed the slight shift in her tone as she spoke of her own situation, Elara's expression softening slightly. She knew that as a princess she was too expected to be wed if not more than the duchess was. Without a beat of hesitation, she reached a handout and gently placed it over Aleithia's as she smiled. " You'll find someone! There's plenty of handsome men here, and almost everyone I've interacted with has been kind." she wanted to reassure her friend, but her own words made her think of one soul in particular that she found not so pleasant. She still didn't know his name, but she certainly didn't have a good memory of him. She pushed the thought away and smiled again before she retracted her hand and nodded. She leaned on her arms. " He is. And... yeah, I think it's definitely possible. He didn't seem super strict but then again, we were in the middle of that war too. Not really a good judge of character all the way." she lifted her hands up and rested her chin on them as she breathed out her nose and grinned. " Although I can say he had my back, and he was able to keep up with me!" that was without her powers but still, that was saying something to be able to keep up with her talking so quickly.

She had always known that Aleithia was more studious than she was, but she never knew if it was out of obligation or enjoyment. She knew that sitting still was a bit hard for her which is why she struggled with it but for the most part she was doing okay. She tilted her head as she listened to the story of someone knocking down a wall. " Whaaaat? Why would he do that? There seems no reason to be so violent with no reason." she paused before she focused in on her friend's eyes. " You weren't hurt were you? Well, actually, hopefully no one was." she couldn't help but wonder if it was the same person who, for all it was worth, had some pretty good forms and battle strategies. Even if he was using them to cut down fellow classmates and seeming to enjoy it.

She huffed out her nose slightly before smiling again. " Do you have anyone you have thought about yet for suggestions for your parents? I know it's odd thinking about it so soon but maybe that would give you a chance to choose for yourself, in your own way." she knew that even her royals were bound by a higher standard, and it wasn't easy to break out of it. But perhaps, Alei would want to, even if just a little bit and taking back a bit of the control. Although, probably not, because she always seemed to calm and collected in their letters.

As Elara was describing her fiance, Alethia couldn't help but smile. It was good that they got along. Especially since her friend was one of those people that could be very hard to keep up with. Sometimes it was difficult for Alei, considering she was constantly tripping over her own words. But this man sounded like he had taken it in stride. It was like watching someone halfway to their own little fairy tale. One that she wholeheartedly hoped would have a happy ending.

The talk about the wall was making her cheeks tint pink. That had been the morning she'd met Nadia. Beautiful, strong Nadia who had pulled her into a dance and then protected her from the worst of the dust. Realizing that she'd been asked a question, she shook her head. "N-no. Thankfully, I don't think anyone was hurt too badly. Or... At least not in a way that wasn't able to be healed immediately." Fussing her lip for a moment, she considered the first question. "Though... I am not sure why he did it. It seems extremely counter - counter productive." It wasn't the first time that a niggling fear slipped into her heart. The fear that she was one of the few people who were genuinely interested in peace. It wasn't the first time that this school made her feel young, idealistic, and naive. It certainly wouldn't be the last. But the sliver of anxiety that nestled under her skin only seemed to be growing by the day with each event that seemed to wrack the school.

Elara bringing the question back to who she would want to suggest to her parents for a partner stunted her line of thought. It did not, however, ease the anxiety that was humming under her skin. She wanted to say yes. But Aleithia knew it was... nontraditional at best to be besotted with another woman. It wasn't exactly something that she had expected either. Her life had a plan. Most royalty lived life on a track. Inching ever closer to the predetermined plan. Marry for an alliance. Have an heir. This was a kink in the hose. A spanner in the works. One that she desperately didn't want to lose.

Her gaze cast downwards, violet eyes hiding behind her bangs as she processed just how to answer. Finally after a moment, her hand came up to tuck a lock of her wavy hair behind her ear. Raising her head, she offered Elara a demure, practiced smile. "I - I'm not entirely sure." Willing her voice to level, she continued as if the question hadn't struck a bolt of fear down her spine. "Like you said, there are - there are many handsome men here. I've only... met a few, but..." For a moment, Aleithia's eyes dropped down. Quickly she raised them, offering Elara a far more genuine smile. "I'm hopeful."

Elara found herself enjoying talking about Micah and the brief time she had with him while they looked for his brother and Alei while in the hallucination. She was glad that Aleithia was able to keep up with her although she knew that sometimes she had to slow herself down, not wanting to be off-putting to the person who was her friend all those years when she travelled around with her father. She cherished that time and the fact that they both came here was exciting! Her hands folded in front of herself, her head tilting slightly as she caught the beginnings of a pink tint on Alei's face. She blinked as she tried to find out why her friend might have a reason to be embarrassed. She only got embarrassed when she was starting to like someone, or when Micah got really close and she widened her eyes slightly at the thought that crossed her mind. No did she like that man? Hazel eyes focused on Aleithia was she spoke further about why he had done it in the first place. The duchess pursued her lips before pressing her hands together and in front of her mouth. “ Wait, um, I know this might not be right, but I must ask.” she hesitated, something that the girl didn’t usually do. She worried about her friend if she liked that man, because he was so violent and the way he brought the others lives to an end so quickly really made her worry if Aleithia liked him. “ I noticed your face went, well, pink. You don’t…like that man, do you? I would worry if you did! And if he’s the same one I encountered in history. Tall, longer hair and scary looking?” If her friend did like him, she’d support her wholeheartedly, but she would also stand up to the man again if she had to.

She still didn’t even know why he was so violent when they were in that previous situation. It seemed like an overreaction to the mood, who breaks someone’s neck like that!? She chewed the inside of her lip before shaking her head. “ No matter! If you do, I’ll support you. I just want you to know…” her eyes shifted slightly, and she leaned forward onto her arms as she whispered to her friend, so others didn’t hear. “ He went out of his way to…well, kill two others and then me. We woke up in the classroom but that still was terrifying.” she wouldn’t leave her friend to the vultures; she would tell her all she knew about him. Which wasn’t much, and she couldn’t wrap her mind around where he would be from, but Mars and Corthyr came to mind immediately. Those kingdoms seemed to thrive on violence like he enjoyed causing. Leaning back into her chair, she tucked a leg underneath herself and sat back on it using her other to keep herself balanced. She breathed out and sighed, well at least she was trying to make sure her friend knew she would be by her side no matter what. Although she also couldn’t see the king and queen allowing that, they were always so protective of her back in the day.

When the subject shifted though she allowed a smile to flash over her face. She nodded and hummed softly, pressing her finger to her lips and looked to the side as she tried to think of who else she’d seen. Really? No one other than Micah and perhaps…a brief glance of his brother but that was only with him unconscious on the desk. He hadn’t awoken quite yet at that point. She looked back at Alei and nodded. “ I got here not too long ago myself, so I can’t say I have either. But I’ll keep an eye out for you!’ She felt her own smile grow slightly at the genuine one that Aleithia gave her, and she figured a chance of topic was due. Sure, this was fun to gossip again but she wanted to know what her friend had been up to! “ So, how has your kingdom been since I last saw you? It’s been a while, my father has…. Let’s say, taken up selling things that suddenly became not safe for me to join him.” Phronese probably knew about what he sold, even if it wasn’t a hugely popular thing. She hoped he’d drop it now that the war was over, but she knew the nature of people was hard to break sometimes.

Shock swept over Aleithia's features. Elara had not... she had not just asked if Aleithia was attracted to a brute of a man who only had enough brain cells to rub together to think "unga-bunga break wall." Especially after the special kind of hell they had just been subjected to. How anyone in their right mind could be attracted to such a display of barbarism was so far beyond her understanding. The shock melted into a look of disgust before being overtaken by a pallid, blank look. While she, personally, didn't see the appeal of... bedroom activities, she was not ignorant of them. Alei was completely aware of what would be expected of her in the future. And the idea of that with a man so violent had left a new wedge of fear in her heart.

Then Elara ever so casually dropped the fact that he had apparently murdered three people during their last class period. Somehow Aleithia's face managed to go even more pale despite having already lost color from the idea of what taking the brute as a lover would be like. "Oh heavens no." The tone of disgust was not intentional. It had bled into the forefront unintentionally. Had her mind wandered into that lovely dance with Nadia so far that it could have been mistaken for being attracted to the savage mass of muscles she'd described? A hand came up to her mouth as if she could catch the words after having already said them. "W-what I mean is that he, um, he seems like far too much for me." She didn't know why she was trying so hard to cover for her slip of the tongue. It wasn't like he was here. The idea of him in a library was, frankly, comical.

With a small shake of her head, she averted her eyes while shifting her hand to cup her cheek. "I do mean it when I say none of the, ah, men here have, um, interested me." Her tone was genuine, because it was the truth. None of the men had managed to catch her eye. Not that she had given them much of a chance to in the last month. That was completely beside the point. "I do appreciate the recommendations." Mostly because they meant that she didn't have to look to hard herself. More time to spend with Nadia.

The mention of her kingdom had Aleithia's hand slipping back down from her face and back into her lap where it could thread into the fabric of her skirts. Digging the pads of her fingers into the soft cotton in search of comfort. "I do believe things have continued much the same as always." The answer felt like the sort of thing that her parents would coach her to say, a smokescreen to avoid showing how little she was truly allowed to know about the workings of her homeland. She also wasn't entirely sure of what new dealings Elara's father was working in. What he sold was never something for her to know, and her parents made sure it stayed that way. "You must miss traveling then. I know,uh, I would if I - if I was in your shoes. I would love to see some of, er, the other kingdoms."

                                                            ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Elara could pick up on the fact that she was not only off, but she was way off in moments. Even as she kept talking, her mouth running far longer than she intended she let out a sigh of relief that even she was surprised by. She tended to jump to conclusions and honestly it was a miracle that Aleithia hadn't told her to leave her alone after all these years. Writing letters was easier and came off as more organized because she had to actually think about her words as she wrote them down. Speaking, well, the words just came out sometimes.

She placed her hand against her neck and laughed nervously; she hoped that she hadn't offended her in any way! " Sorry! Yeah, no I should have figured you have better taste than that. Not that I'd want anyone I care for anywhere near him." When Aleithia corrected herself Elara leaned on the table a little and raised her hand up to cup her mouth as she was telling a secret. " If it makes you feel better, I did get a slap in, even if he looked like he wanted to actually kill me. Something scared him off, serves him right." it was clear even after one class she had made not quite an enemy, but she didn't like someone. For Elara to genuinely not like someone was a rarity in itself, but if she was fair on herself, she did see him commit horrible acts and then enjoy himself in the process. She knew there were different people in the world, obviously there would be with different kingdoms but that just seemed over the top!

It did catch her attention the way Aleithia said that none of the men caught her eye and after a moment to process she blinked, a smile creeping across her face. She leaned her head on her hand and folded her legs back so her ankles hooked together under the chair. " No men have caught your eye so far?" she repeated, but putting emphasis on the one word. She curiously looked up at her friend. " I'll keep an eye out for someone who would fit well! I'm sure there's plenty of eligible bachelors here at the school. That's partially the reason for this, right?" she pressed her lips closed as she tried not to ramble too much. She hummed quietly as she took in Aleithia's response and while she believed it, it sounded awfully rehearsed. She opted to not push, already having dodged the bullet of making the situation already really awkward. At the subject of travelling though, her eyes lit up. " Oh I definitely do. Although it's kind of nice to have everyone from every kingdom here, it's like all the kingdoms converged into one place!" it didn't dawn on her that, in fact, that was exactly the point. " Maybe one day we could travel somewhere together! When there's no fighting of course, you could come see me wherever Micah is from, since I know it's not Mercury or Phronese. Oh, or you could come see my kingdom!" even as she said the names of their home kingdoms she hushed her voice so only the two of them would hear, she did sometimes pay attention to what they were and were not supposed to do.

Normally, Aleithia's face was naturally dour. The turn of her eyes, her mother had once said in a rare moment of tenderness, naturally turned any look she offered the people around her into a scowl. Spending years in Phronese surrounded by gossip and casual cruelty had made the trait something of a blessing. No matter what was said about her, no matter how much it hurt, it left her looking unaffected. Yet now, at the idea of having romantic feelings for a man who was more like a boar than human, she couldn't help the shiver of disgust that ran down her spine and furrowed her brow. Thankfully, her own swift dismissal of the idea was quickly accepted by Elara.

With a small shake of her head, she shifted her expression. The kind of expression that was born of feeling uncomfortable and trying to change the subject without offending the other party. "Maybe, um, maybe we should talk about something other than the... dream." This time, her hesitation was born from not knowing exactly what to call whatever that class had just been. A shared dream? A mass hallucination? It was hard to say. Especially when she understood Sir Yezikhulumi's powers so little. Whatever it was, she didn't want to remember it. Not the way that she'd been unable to contain the poisonous sludge that had dribbled from her hands. Not the way a soldier had attempted to kidnap her for...

                                                            No.

She did not want to think about how unsavory his motives may have been.

Once again, she found herself shaking her head. "I would assume most of the men here are eligible. If this is a school for peace it makes little sense to send anyone who is married or engaged. The easiest way to form alliances is through marriage, if the rulers were smart everyone who comes would not be promised to anyone so that unlikely alliances can spark from this little experiment." She was babbling. Aleithia knew that she was. Part of it was her mind running away from herself with an attempt to logic out the purpose of the school. Most of it was an attempt to distance them from talk of the dream and murder. "Obviously, with the perimeters set by the invitation that's not entirely possible in every situation. But I cannot imagine that more than just my parents are attempting to use their children to find suitable - or maybe it's more accurate to say favorable - matches through this school."

Elara nodded her head quickly, sensing the discomfort with the subject. Her brain moved fast but that didn't mean she didn't pay attention, most of the time. Her mix up clearly made it obvious that sometimes she didn't register a situation correctly at first. " I agree. We should move on from that." she hummed softly and thought before she paused, listening to the usually timid princess ramble. She blinked, not having heard her speak so much before. Not even in their letters did she speak so much, nor making it sound so casual. By the time Aleithia was done talking, Elara's expression had lit up. She leaned forward on the table again and smiled brightly. " I've never heard you talk so much, I love it! I don't know if it's because I talk so much, I don't recall you being so talkative. Not that I mind, it's great to know you're capable of it." she had always worried a little about her, but she didn't make it widely known because even towards the last time she visited things had been a little off. She couldn't place it, but that was shortly before the war, and it made sense for things to be tense.

So, it was nice to be able to genuinely relax and spend time with her friend without as many restrictions.

Focusing back on their second topic she pressed her pointer finger against her lips as she thought. " Oh, I'm sure. I know my parents knew better and I wouldn't have found someone to settle with, even if it was part of the goal. But most aren't as flighty as I am and I'm fully aware of that. It's just so hard to sit still and focus on getting to know someone after all." that was unless they were able to do something fun, and she had a feeling she'd be able to do so with Micah. Looking back, he was moving quite a bit and perhaps he could make a good dancing partner eventually. That would be really nice. " I wouldn't be surprised if there were more families who were using this as an opportunity than not. How often do so many of the royal families and duchies get together like this? I mean, I don't think it's ever happened before. Not to this extent." she tried to think back to who else she might have met who would be here. Not many people, but she had caught a glimpse of the princess a time or two when they went to the kingdom of water, the name always slipped her mind, with her father, but she never came out. Must have been timid or something. And when she snuck off in Shahiti to learn her dance she possibly could have met eyes with someone of the royal family or a duke or someone. She didn't know if Aleithia knew all the places she had been, but it only was when she realized she had fallen silent for longer than usual that she snapped back to the present. " Have you seen anyone you've met before here? I mean, other than me." she laughed under her breath before she tapped the bottom of the table with one hand. " I'm trying to remember if there might be anyone from our travels that I would recognize. I can't think of anybody right off the bat, but I'll be sure to let you know if I do!" another pause and she smiled sheepishly. " Well, if you want to know that is." she didn't want to force anything on her friend no matter how excited she was.
