Yngvara - 3

"Jeg beklager," She sighed, and reached out to clasp a hand around Revna's head. Yngvara brought her close enough so that their foreheads could touch, frozen skin to frozen skin and when they broke apart love had faded her anger. Some. The worry was still there, though, and growing with the weather.

"Oh blessed goddess," Serrilda murmured and gratefully took the wrapped stones. Before she shoved her hands into the pockets of her cloak she took a moment to savor the warmth, going as far as to groan before retreating under the fur.

"Does Polaris remember the way back? The storms got Yuli turned around and if it weren't for the smoke we might have gotten lost." The smoke that they couldn't even see anymore. It may not have been as big of a problem if there had been some kind of shelter nearby, but Yngvara was at a loss.

Ziya gave Silfi a thankful smile before turning to make certain that others were settled as well. It seemed for the most part that those who were interested had drifted closer to their little gathering now. Some were tucked away in other corners for more private conversations or to get some rest despite the howling winds and bitter cold outside. Ziya himself sat down towards the edge of the group where he could also keep an eye on the doorway for the returning hunters, including his own sisters. It allowed him to also watch the twins for the story, his brow rising with interest as Rhidian started doing her thing as Silfi had requested. There were some murmurs and surprised gasps, but so far no one caused a ruckus at something not often seen within their village. He was curious how their mor and far would react, especially since they hadn’t expected such gifts to be in their bloodline. It’ll be fun. But he would let Rhidian show that when she felt comfortable doing so, if the hunters here didn’t spread gossip within the village as soon as they returned.

Trolds seem terrifying.” Ziya commented from his spot, a grin crossing his lips as he supported the twins and tried to calm the whispers by raising his own voice. “What did this particular one do?

Oh, ooooh. Rhiannon wasn’t certain what to expect when Rhidian had been asked to do the thing, but now that her twin was openly doing magic it was hard not to gasp. Despite the sharp pang of hurt that she initially felt about her twin hiding such a thing from her and the other mixed emotions that came along with seeing her twin doing such an amazing thing, the storyteller simply smiled as if telling Rhidian to not worry. She was good at telling stories and she would shove any unwelcome emotions away for the moment so that she could think about them later. “Perfekt.” She complemented the creature before gesturing towards it, the teen taking things in stride as best as she could.

It was a terrifying trold who threatened a nearby village by keeping them out of his woods and stealing their roati for snacks, but surely someone could step up to deal with him.” Rhiannon began as she continued the tale with a smile. “Before the goddess laid a blanket of snow on the northern mountains and began her long sleep there were farms and more villages scattered across. One such farm belonged to a poor family who were desperate for firewood, but unfortunately for them this trold chased off any who wanted to chop wood. Both of the oldest sons who tried were also chased away by the terrifying creature, and so it was left to the youngest to step up to the task.”Rhiannon paused and looked towards her twin with a slight nod. “Askegutt was a young teen who at first glance seemed normal, but had sharp golden eyes like a parak.” She had faith in her sister’s skills as she described the boy. “Unlike his brothers who had brought weapons with them, Askegutt went out with ostekule that had molded. No one understood why he took that out of all things with him, but still he went out into the woods to meet the trold.” Rhiannon held up her hands as if holding a round wheel of the cheese, her gaze fixated on it as if she too were confused by its presence in the story.

Hvorfor er du her gutt?” Rhiannon mimicked the best gravelly voice that she could, the depth surprising for one normally so reserved and soft spoken. “The trold’s voice echoed through the woods as it stared down at Askegutt. Gå før jeg spiser deg!” Rhiannon echoed her words before looking around at the gathering. “Most would expect Askegutt to run, no? So does the story simply end here?

That or be eaten, yeah.” Murmured someone in the group before being elbowed. “But why the ostekule?” Questioned another as they waited. Rhiannon simply smiled as she raised a bowl of stew to her lips to take a bite, allowing the crowd to mull on what happened next for just a moment more and to watch her sister’s work while she prepared to continue the story.

Ikke bekymre deg.” Replied Revna quietly before pulling back, her lips twisting up into a reassuring smile. She had just wanted to help, but she couldn’t blame Yngvara for being a bit upset at her. Though she had no regrets and plenty of pride to keep herself from worrying over her own actions, as reckless as they could be.

We have you.” Revna pursed her lips thoughtfully as she looked around. It was so hard to see with the snow covering most of the sky and each gust of wind threatened to blind them with more. But it was actually the wind which she was thankful for in the moment. Plucking one of the decorative feathers from her hair, Revna tossed it into the sky and watched as it fluttered in a direction. “Hva synes du?” She asked the chiavi, watching as Polaris ruffled his feathers more before glancing in the same direction of the feather. “We fought the wind coming here, so we should ride it going back.” The wind hadn’t changed direction from what she had seen so they could use it to get the general direction of shelter. Even if they couldn’t fly they could at least walk in the same direction that the wind was guiding them.

Hopefully we will see smoke again soon.” That would confirm her directions, Revna more confident since Polaris seemed alright with the direction as well.

Silfi - 4

Silfi may not have been as gifted in the hunt or even Intune with the beasts they shared their lives with, but she did have a silver tongue. She was a tradesman through and through so working to quell any rumors that might crop up once they got back to the village would be her top priority. Before hand, actually, if some of the more discontent mutterings were an indication. Her family were good people, with a good reputation and she wouldn't let something as silly as superstitions ruin that.

It was generally acknowledged that mages were fragile in body and that while their magic was great it made them more of a liability when it burned out. That may have been true in the older days and magic may have been an undesirable trait in future generations, but it didn't have to be that way now.

Silfi shivered dramatically and rubbed her arms. "I'd definitely run."

Rhidian - 4

The teen lowered her other hand toward the ground and once her fingers touched the flooring particles of dirt and earth skittered toward her. They formed little roati that she was able to lift with magic and parade around the Trold. Unlike the beast himself they were much more simplistic, little more than blobs, but spry enough in their actions to bounce around until being 'spotted'. One by one the prey beasts 'popped' in front of the beast until he was satisfied and standing proud.

Rhidian made a little farm house with a few figures 'running' from the Trold. It was tricky, getting the shapes just right, but she imagined them to be like dolls. They bounced and bobbed with the story, little frowns forming on their faces until little 'o's of screams replaced them.

Until their hero appeared. Rhidian spent more effort on him and made Askegutt a true pillar of bravery. She even gave a little pop of golden light to his eyes - which was, by far, trickier to get right than forming clay balls and moving them about. When the Trold 'spoke' Rhidian made him larger, giving him a much more intimidating presence and for a moment she worried she'd gone too far. A few shocked inhales surrounded them, but she saw more than one hunter gingerly tease their companions about it.

Yngvara - 4

Yngvara reached into her pack and pulled out a package of her own before handing it to Revna. "Gora nuts. To keep up your strength." There weren't many, but going without in weather like this wasn't an option. A few nuts from the Gora tree could keep a hunter 'fed' for the rest of the day if they were smart. She didn't want that, though; she just wanted everyone in her scouting party to have bright eyes and a strong step.

Yuli hunched over Serrilda and Yngvara as they walked to buffer some of the wind. The chiavi may have been in a poor mood, but he'd been trained well. Yngvara looked up at his obsidian feathered face and smiled, "Ziya vil skjemme deg bort når vi kommer tilbake, det er jeg sikker på."

"Ziya kunne skjemme meg bort," Serrilda murmured with a grin. "Eller kanskje jeg burde bli straffet-"

"STOP."

Kommer an på hvor stinkende det er.” Added in Ziya, trying to use some humor to help dissolve any further whispers in the crowd. He shifted slightly so that he could look more towards the doorway. He didn’t want to show his worry as he listened to the story, but it was hard to not wonder when Yngvara and the others would return. Just a bit longer. He mused as he settled against Stov who supported him even now.

Rhiannon grinned at the sight of the figures from her story. It definitely added a depth that she had never expected, but she truly did enjoy the sight despite everything else. “Well, you see…” She finally began again now that some in the group were squirming with questions. “He took the ostekule and lifted it before him like it was a rock.” She squeezed her hands together as if demonstrating. “The trold had not been expecting a mere earthling to squish a rock in his hands so easily and for once he was the one who took a step backwards!” She pointed to her temple with a soft laugh. “trolds har tilsynelatende ingen hjerne.” She teased, realizing that most would have run from the trold before realizing how foolish they could be.

Are you sure you want to try fighting me? Askegutt taunted him boldly and the trold found himself completely fooled by his bravado.” She lowered her hands so that they gently floated back to her lap, Rhiannon straightening her shoulders triumphantly. “In order to try to avoid any fighting with someone strong enough to crush a stone, the trold ended up actually helping Askegutt to cut down the wood. He was so intimidated that he had angered a blessed of the goddess that he even asked the boy, sulten? And so Askegutt had another trial to face, a meal with the trold.” And it was here that Rhiannon paused again to take another bite of food, enjoying herself as she prepared to continue the tale..

Thank you.” Revna took some for herself, keeping some in her small satchel while plopping one in her mouth. She hadn’t even realized that her stomach was rumbling until that moment, the hybrid more than ready to enjoy some stew once they returned. If there was any left…

Still, before her thoughts could continue with food the other huntress was talking about her brother. Revna rolled her eyes at the playful comments. “Good luck.” She replied, her hand resting on Polaris as they walked against the wind together. “Smoke?” She raised her gaze after a few minutes, the hybrid pointing in the direction that they were going. So perhaps they were actually closer then! That was a relief…

Silfi - 5

Silfi gasped when Askegutt crushed the 'stone' and even though she started to stand her attention was still on Rhiannon. Under the guise of filling water skeins, Silfi made her way toward the doorway and peered around her brother. When nothing caught her eye she sighed, passing a concerned look his way before replacing it with a smile. It was fake - a thinly veiled disguise, but if her sisters saw her she wouldn't want them to worry more.

"They're taking too long," She whispered.

Rhidian - 5

The more she practiced the easier her magic flowed. The tremor in her fingers had never really gone away, but Rhidian's nerves had calmed to a manageable level now that the story was progressing. She lowered a hand to scoop up a spoonful of soup, shoved it in her mouth, and went straight back to it.

Rhiannon's tricky hero got the majority of her attention though the trold was never far behind. Rhidian had pulled a few pieces of loose stones into the mix, giving his body more structure and a 'hardened' exterior. When he 'stomped' little puffs of air filtered around his feet and for a moment, she'd very nearly forgotten the storm.

Yngvara - 5

The longer they walked the harder it was to force her legs to move. Every muscle in the huntresses' body burned, but she pushed through it. Even when her calf seized Yngvara grit her teeth and ignored it. You can rest once you get back. Hopefully with a hot meal and stiff drink...

"I see it." Her eyes took in the wisps and Yngvara's heart soared. They were closer than she'd dared to hope which only made her push harder through the snow. "I definitely see it."
