Truth or Dare

Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

Truth or Dare has always been a fun and thrilling game that a youngling experienced as they grew up. But even adults may find themselves challenged to tell a secret or take on a dare. Which one will you pick, and how does it all play out?

[ Play out this prompt response by your character responding to a truth or a dare. If you're playing with another character, both will need to respond to their own individual challenge. If this is a solo, play out the response as if challenged by an NPC. ]

There hadn't been a single day that he'd been away from Jauhar that Ilmryn hadn't tried to make a break for it. He'd long since learned that if he was being watched he wouldn't get far, but the moment someone's back was turned he bolted. The two men who'd taken him - his new fathers - had tried talking to him, both as a pair and then individually - but Ilmryn was stubborn. He wouldn't speak, wouldn't give up his secrets and now here he was.

Tied to the cart. With a 'safetly cord'. The taller one - Sol - had said he'd needed one when he was younger so Ilmryn shouldn't feel embarrassed, but what else was he supposed to feel? He had a leash like a radaku! And when he tried to tug on it it wouldn't come off, like it was magically tied or something. Growling in frustration, the boy tugged on it again, even going so far as to start biting on the rope.

Splayed out in the grass, Fiadah watched over one of her new brothers with a sigh. Couldn't he just like them already? She'd been told that patience would be a necessity, but patience was not her strong suit! "You're gonna break your teeth before you can chew through that," she groaned out. She rolled onto her belly and cocked her head at the leashed boy. "Believe me, I tried back when I was younger. You'll get used to it." Her brow knit slightly. "Why're you trying to run off so much, anyway? Where're you planning to go?"

With his teeth still clamped down on the rope, Ilymryn turned a critical eye to his new 'sister'. When she didn't stop talking to him he outright growled at her, even going so far as to scoot back as far as he could before the rope made it impossible. Why couldn't he just leave?! If they wanted him to trust them so badly this wasn't the way to do it!

"Don't gotta tell you," He groused, "And not gonna." The last bit was said with more of a hiss and the boy pulled on the road all the harder.

Fiadah's brow rose at the grumbly noise. Had.. had she just gotten growled at?

Gods, that was adorable!!

She quickly smothered her genuine delight with a cough. The fact that the boy looked so truly disgruntled helped as well. She certainly didn't want him to think she was laughing at him. "No, I guess you don't gotta," she agreed with a purse of her lips. "I just don't want you to hurt yourself. I'd let you off if you'd stop running like some critter trying to get away from a hunter. We ain't gonna eat you." The temptation to add 'yet' on the end was strong... but Fiadah was stronger!

Other children would have agreed to her terms; even if it were just long enough to bolt. Ilmryn wasn't like that. He wasn't sneaky, or smart - he was just annoyed. So when she called him a critter he curled his lip like the mangy little thing he was and dug his fingers harder into the rope. He gave it another couple of good, strong pulls before the sweat on his fingers caused him to slip and lose his grip entirely. All at once the child threw up his hands with a frustrated snarl, "Just let me go! It's not like you can't find somebody else anyway!"

They might not eat him, but he'd seen the beasties they kept! They might chop him up and feed him to them! And this one...she didn't have the same look in her eye as the other Matorian. She'd really do it.

She couldn't help flinching slightly when the boy resumed struggling. Fiadah's time on the safety cord had been more to keep her from wandering off. She'd never fought this hard against it. Not that she could remember.

Her brow rose with surprise at the exclamation. Find someone else? This.. really wasn't something she could approach with her usual brute force. She brushed off the unexpected pang in her chest and sat down. "How about this? There's this game out there where people can pick truth or dare. If you pick truth, I ask a question and you have to tell the truth. If you pick a dare, I dare you to do something and you have to do it. If you don't follow through, you gotta rub mud in your hair. And same goes for me." She smiled and nodded encouragingly. "I'll even let you go first. I pick truth. Ask me anything."

"A game?" Ilmryn balked. Did he look like he wanted to play a game?! With her?! He was so surprised by the audacity of it that for a moment his snarl slipped, but in an instant that little lip was back to curling. "That's dumb. I don't wanna do that."

Although...when she talked about letting him go first he faltered. If he ran she could chase him down - he'd seen her move, knew she could catch him - but if he dared her into closing her eyes or something like that then maybe -

Dang it, she picked truth! Ah well, maybe not this round, anyway. "Fine. Why are you being nice to me? They aren't here so you don't gotta."

Fiadah could practically smell the cogs turning in the youngling's head for him to go from annoyed to willing without any extra convincing on her part. Little bugger was plotting something. He was so spunky!

Her head cocked slightly, surprised by the question. "Why? No reason to be mean to you." Her expression attempted a more serious, earnest turn. "Besides, you're my brother now. Papa and Baba bein' around doesn't matter. Siblings gotta be there for each other." Content enough with her answer, she dared to scoot a little bit closer. "Okay, your turn. Should I ask you a truth or make you a dare?"

'Siblings.' He didn't have any of those, no matter what she or anyone else said. When his real papa came by to get him Ilmryn wouldn't have to play around anymore! Not that he was very good at 'keeping it cool' now anyway. Even when she said the word his nose curled and his expressions were painfully readable.

Nice just to be nice? Nobody was really like that and if they were they were dumb.

When she scooted closer he tried to scoot back, but found himself unable to because of the cart at his back. "I can do a dare." He answered indignantly and even went as far as to sit straighter. "You don't scare me."

Fiadah noted the paralleled scoot and resisted the urge to keep going closer. Honestly, the expression she earned caused a streak of ache in her chest. She had only grown up surrounded by a loving family.. so she couldn't imagine what had this boy gone through to make him seem to despise the idea. Sure, she didn't know why her birth family had given her and her sister up, but she had never had anything further than a passing curiosity about them. She was happy.

Would the boys ever be happy with them? "I'm not here to scare you, silly," she chirped, trying to keep her tone light. "Let's see then. I dare you to name all the crystals on your face."

Name all my crystals? "That's dumb," Ilmryn snorted. But it was easy so instead of fighting it too much he reached up to have a feel of his crystals. Once he was sure he had an accurate count he started coming up with names.

"Speck, Dot, Chuff, Box, Boomy, Roadsnack and Bug." His tone started with a fair bit of snap, but by the end he was genuinely thinking of names; as odd as they may be. Those seemed like good enough names; he'd used them a time or two as nicknames for the other kids. If they were good enough for people they were good enough for crystals.

A little smirk rose with the voiced protest, but Fiadah didn't back down. She just waited patiently, pleased to see the boy checking on where his crystals were. At least he seemed to be willing to play along. Actually, the names got more elaborate as he went... "Roadsnack?" She chuckled lightly and gave Ilmryn's face a quick check. Yup, that seemed to be all of them. "Nice."

She pursed her lips for a moment before deciding to go for the gold. "Okay, my turn then. I choose dare."

Last from me~

"Roadsnack's a good name." He nodded, more than a little pleased with himself. All of the little acorns he'd packed were the same size as his crystals, ergo that meant the knobs on his face could be roadsnacks....in a sense. The more he thought about it the goofier it became so he decided not to think about it.

Oh! Oh! Ilmryn's posture immediately perked. This was it! This was his moment! "I dare you to let me go." The child said it with hurried quickness and he almost twisted himself in half reading for the rope, as if he could tug the whole thing into her lap. "I said it, it's real and if you don't do it you'll....you'll...you'll have to be tied up too!"

Fiadah was actually taken aback by the boy's reaction to her choice. Oh. Oh-hohohoho! [it]That's what he'd been plotting. She squinted her eyes as though it was a serious debate going through her head while she slowly stood and walked forward. "Hmmmmmmmm." Their dads would be quite upset if she released Ilmryn, but Ilmryn would surely appreciate her taking the risk. The choice was obvious.

With a resigned sigh, she bypassed her new brother and dug through the wagon for another length of rope. "Tied up, it is."
