It was the end of the school week, and the last of the classes was over, and Rey was hurrying to the Student Kitchens. She’d gotten a note from Alice to meet her there after the last class of the day, and she wanted to get there in good time. Tomorrow was the last club meeting of the year, and Rey was planning to go there anyway to get a jump on making some sweets for the meeting and a little something for dinner for her date with Finn. For the two of them, ‘date night’ could be easily doing classwork as it was finding a quiet place in the castle where she’d snuggle close to him while he played guitar and sang folk songs to her. The latter was her favourite, as he had a wonderful singing voice these days, and he knew quite a few old Irish ballads, some of which she knew well enough to sing along. Tonight, she thought it would be nice to surprise him with ‘dinner for two’ instead of dealing with the crush that was dinner in the Great Hall
The little redhead ducked down to the dorms long enough to dump off her books and schoolwork, give a very needy Rosie attention, and get changed into something more comfortable for mucking about in the kitchen that she didn’t mind if it got doused in a bit of flour. Rey settled on an oversized mustard-coloured Hufflepuff Quidditch tee shirt, paired with a short yellow and black plaid skirt, trainers and ankle socks. After making sure her little friend was looked after, Rey rushed off to meet up with Alice.
It was fairly quiet in the Student Kitchens, and Rey could hear a voice singing a song she was very familiar with before seeing it was Alice doing the singing while she was making something. Though she wasn’t a trained vocalist, certainly not like Finn or his cousin, Rey could sing. As Alice was singing one of the refrains, she chimed in, matching her pitch and cadence with, “Is í an belle chathair Bhaile Átha. CliathTá sí ag comhoibriú le duine, le beirt, le triúr. Le do thoil, an gcuirfeá in iúl dom cé hí? Lig na gaoithe, na báistí agus na haiceall a bheith ard. Agus an sneachta ag taisteal tríd an spéir. Tá sí chomh milis le puimcin. Getting a lad féin ag an am.” As she sang along, she gave her friend a bit of a smile.

xxxxx✮ Wʜᴀᴛ's Iɴsɪᴅᴇ Mʏ Hᴇᴀᴅ? I hope she accepts When Alice heard footsteps approaching, the blonde looked up and smiled when she saw that Rey had entered the kitchen. Rey chimed in and joined her song, though she was singing in Gaeilge. Alice knew what the language sounded like, and while she knew a few words and phrases, she was in no way fluent yet. But she recognized the beat and she'd heard Uncle Seamus sing it that way. Alice was just about to start braiding the bread so that she could put it in the oven, but she motioned for Rey to come over and join her. "Hey, welcome to my crazy bread project. I'm almost done with that, but I have a bunch of other things I wanted to do too." Alice started to braid the dough, nimble fingers working pretty quickly to effectively achieve her task. As she worked the bread into the knots, she pointed at the cookbook she had opened, then said, "I was getting ready to start baking some treats for the last meeting, but I can't decide what to make. Can you pick a couple while I finish this up?" She beamed over at her friend, knowing that she'd pick some good snacks.

“Oh, okay, sounds like fun,” said Rey as she put on an apron as she was invited to join Alice’s ‘crazy bread project’, and she peered at the cookbook. Seeing Alice make braided bread, the little redhead was inspired to start making and then rolling out sheets of dough herself before taking a sharp knife and cutting the sheets into strips which she proceeded to make into braids herself before dipping them in a mixture of cinnamon, brown sugar and finely chopped nuts before placing them on a cookie sheet to put in the oven. She wasn’t really following a set recipe and was improvising something because it seemed like a fun idea.
After prepping one selection for the oven, she started making up more dough for her second selection. “I was thinking that since we started the year in the Americas, going back was a good way to end the year. I was planning to make Beignets filled with loganberry preserves. So, New Orleans meets Southern Ontario, and I think I’ll also make a batch with a dark chocolate and hazelnut crème filling.” As she was talking, she fished a jar of the bespoke preserves from the refrigerator, along with getting the powdered cocoa and powdered hazelnuts to start blending her second filling.
“Tomorrow’s going to be fun, but its hard to believe we won’t be doing this again until fall,” confessed Rey. “Think we can meet up during the summer? Maybe you could visit us or something?”

The blonde then smiled and said, "I'm planning on making some classic chocolate chip cookies and some chocolate chunk brownies. Or maybe I'll make it blondies. Choices, choices..." She grinned, then nodded. "Why choose when you can make both!" Alice grinned, then started to gather the ingredients she'd need in order to whip up her chocolate chip cookies. She didn't need to consult a recipe for that one. After all, she'd made these cookies probably a hundred times since joining the Culinary Club. "So Rey, I was thinking... Next year is going to be my seventh year. I'm going to be super busy with newts and everything else as well. That's actually the reason I asked you to come down here." Alice wiped her hand on her apron, then laid it on Rey's shoulder. "You're one of the best cooks in the club and you have an exceptional eye for detail. I want you to vice captain the club with me next year, then take over the club when I graduate. Is that something you'd want to do?" Blue eyes sparkled at her friend, and some might say, her kitchen protege.

Rey was working along with Alice, getting her creations ready for the oven, as she created her braided pastries with no name, she posited the question in her mind of what might happen were she to, instead, create the pastry using sliced almonds, honey and cinnamon instead. Not for the first time she lamented not having a pad of paper and a Quick-Quote pen handy, as she doubted she would retain the idea long enough in her mind to jot a note down in her idea notebook later. ‘Maybe I can ask Momma and Nana for one when we start getting school supplies together,’ she thought.
“Why choose indeed?” she replied to Alice’s quandry about choices. Rey had her two fillings made up, the second of which she created via judging proportions, and tasting it to make sure the chocolate and hazelnut filling was the way she wanted it. It was then a matter of filling pouches of dough, rather like creating fresh raviolis. “You could change them up, make them into chocolate chip cookie bars, served still warmed so they’re all gooey and chewy, and then add vanilla ice cream. That just sounds good,” she offered.
When Alice started talking about going into her Seventh Year, Rey was reminded how Bee and Charlotte were leaving, and her concern the team couldn’t function without the Badgers’ supercouple, however she focused as Alice mention how she would need a deputy as she would need to also focus upon NEWTs among her other tasks, and how she wanted for her to do that, and take over the club when she graduated. Rey’s eyes lit up and she nodded enthusiastically without a second thought. “Alice, I’d love to do that. Oh, next year’s going to be so much fun, and it would be an honour to take over for you … you know, when you graduate.”

xxxxx✮ Wʜᴀᴛ's Iɴsɪᴅᴇ Mʏ Hᴇᴀᴅ? Yay! Blue eyes sparkled when Rey said that she would love to take on the Vice Captain roll and inherit the club after Alice graduated. That was the desired reaction she'd been hoping for. After all, Alice didn't want to scramble to find a replacement for her after graduation and Rey was the most logical choice. She enjoyed cooking and baking as much as Alice did and she had those leadership qualities that could be drawn out, much like Linsey and Tam had helped her to do. "Perfect! For my last year as captain, I wanted to do a comfort food first club meeting. I figured it would be a good send off." She grinned at the redhead, then started working on her cookie batter. Effortlessly, she whipped together the ingredients and started to portion out the cookie dough into equal portions. She'd doubled the recipe to make cookies to take with her to Healthy Haunts as well, since she liked to provide the attendees and counselors with snacks there as well. "Plus, who doesn't love comfort foods. I'm probably going to make boxty because that's been my comfort food since I was a little kid." Alice remembered how her mother used to make boxty for her... him? when they were little. It had always been an after school treat for her. The blonde smiled contentedly, then let out a little sigh. A happy memory, and yet, it was tinged with sadness because of her parents casting her out.
