Enhanced Physical Condition tabAs a demi-goddess, Amara is stronger, faster, heals quicker and is more durable than a human. On average it's about three times as much.
Speak to the Dead tabShe can speak (and see) those who have died but have not yet moved on.
Souls of the Damned tabAmara can summon spirits from the underworld. She can use them as servants, soldiers in battle, or just to question them. They can be used for short periods of time (ten minutes during the day or until the sun rises if summoned during the night). She can currently summon three of them at a time. However, if she wants to summon a specific spirit it takes more time and effort. She can only recall 1 specific spirit at a time in that case. These spirits are semi-caporal and can interact with the living world. The spirits can be put back to rest in various ways and are weak to iron, salt, and silver.
Resurrection tabShe can only resurrect someone that's body is functionally intact (or else they die shortly after) and that has died in the last three days. Anything more than that puts too great strain on her. And if Hades is unwilling to let the person's soul return to their body…well, they stay a breathing husk.
Traveling Shadows tabUnlike her father, she can only use shadows to travel up to a mile at max distance. Her preferred distance is within 30 feet. She'd prefer to call her technique Shadow Stepping.
During the bloodiest war known to man (World War 2), a baby girl was born during the longest night of the year. Literally and figuratively for her mother - Elita Hayden. The night would go down in history for the both of them. For Amara as her birthday and for Elita it was something she never wanted to repeat. In fact, it went so badly that Elita flatlined during childbirth. If it wasn't for the fact that Hades had been there for the birth of his daughter, there's a good chance that Amara would have grown up without both parents in her day to day life. As it was, her mother had only flatlined long enough for the doctors to panic before she was brought back.
Despite the complications of birth and life, Amara was born healthy. Ten toes, ten fingers, and her father's eyes. The bonding of father and daughter didn't last long as Hades had to return to his position as Master of the Underworld. Elita did what she could to ensure her child grew up well - her parents helped with that in the early years. And as Amara got older she often stayed overnight in a small office at her mother's work. As most of the men were away at war, Elita worked as a solitary mortician. Even as a young child Amara had no trouble sleeping like the dead there.
By the age of three, Amara was seen to speak to absolutely no one. At first her grandparents just thought it was what every kid went through. But when it didn't stop as she entered school, they sought professional help. Amara spent many hours in psychiatrists and therapist's offices. None of it stopped her from talking to people that weren't there. Her mother absolutely put her foot down when her grandparents tried to push medication on her as they believed her to literally be crazy. Elita knew the truth of the matter - Amara wasn't crazy. She could just see things that they couldn't. And given that Elita worked with the recently deceased it was no wonder that Amara talked to those who had yet to pass on.
She learned to speak with them less and to ignore them by the time she was seven, however, as her mother had many long conversations with her over it. It helped that on her Seventh birthday her father came to her in a dream. They were able to talk through the longest night of the year though it had felt like such a short time. After that point, her father would appear to her under the the cloak of night. They would walk and talk until she fell asleep. While he couldn't leave the Underworld, he wouldn't leave her to navigate life alone. Not completely.
By the time she was nine, Amara's demi-goddess attributes were too strong to ignore. Thankfully her scent had been traced by a creature that was more or less loyal to Hades…loyal or afraid of, either way it acted more as an indicator rather than an attacker. Her mother hated the idea but succumbed to the logic that Amara needed to leave. Amara left home to live among creatures loyal to her father despite the decline in power. They trained her and taught her to the best of their abilities.
Though her trainers did their best, Amara grew bitter over the fact that her mortal mother couldn't be with her there. Her only solace was the conversations or words of advice she got from her dad increased. Though it wasn't like the normal father-daughter relationships she'd seen on TV growing up, she made due. She was at least grateful for some parental presence in her life. It didn't matter to her that he may or may not have been grooming her to join him in the Underworld to help with the workload when she was older…at least it was something. Besides short of killing her (or having her killed), he couldn't force her to join him in the Underworld. Though truthfully she hasn't ruled out working with him later, Amara wanted to put some miles on her soul first. To do that she left her trainers when she was twenty years old. At least for a majority of the time.
She found that life outside of the old ways was far more exciting in a different way. It was definitely more rewarding. Though she found she was woefully underprepared to really support herself in the world; she didn't exactly have any marketable skills in the outside world. At least at first. Her mother helped get her on her feet long enough for Amara to start earning a living using one thing she always had with her - her mind and imagination. Who knew that writing fantasy stories that completely skewed the personalities of the Pantheon and their ancient progeny could be so lucrative? The only stories that are off limits to her for personal reasons are romances involving Hades…because no. All the other gods and goddesses are fair game as long as she obscures any of the real details.
Since getting on her own two feet, Amara has had some adventures of her own. She's met a few other demi gods along the way; though some she didn't know were like her. She's even helped a lot of humans along the way. Mostly though she has traveled the world and enjoyed most of it. Though she could normally do without things like sexism, Amara uses it for her benefit when it suits her.
They met the night that she was born. Though for obvious reasons, she doesn’t remember that. Life and death being what it is, they didn’t meet again until they were both well into their adulthood; NYC 9-11-2001. He worked with her to help where they could and help put the dead to rest where they couldn’t. They grew close and became each other's confidant during the serious moments. Amara tried to remind him to still have fun, when she could. Eventually that lead to them developing a different kind of relationship that helped him to relax. Talking and touching has become the norm for them. And so she’s kept in touch throughout the years.
Sirius and Amara had met shortly after she’d left her training back in the 1960’s. They were together for about a year and in that time Sirius never let on that he was another Demi-god, so neither did she. Though she doesn’t know it that was part of the reason he left; a small part of her blames him for the heartbreak that followed even though she got over him decades ago. tabtabtabtabtab'Wait...who is he again?'
This little ******** right here...That's basically Amara's thoughts on him. She punched him in the face pretty much the first time she met him and still wants to punch him in the face. Who laughs at the horror of 9-11?
Thea and Amara are cousins that were, once upon a time, more like sisters. Though Amara never understood Thea's reticence over accepting her father's side of the family. At least not right away. They met, originally, during 9-11 and through the tragedy became friends. Amara visited her and her swim team often. She once convinced Thea to pretend to have drowned for her misbehaving students to find (only to show up perfectly fine the next day). But ever since Thea lost her husband and child, a time when Amara realized that Poseidon was an egregious father, they haven't been in contact much. Amara isn't really sure what to do for Thea other than trying to get her to get her mind off of her tragedies and put her energies elsewhere - something that hasn't always gone well in the past.
Though they are cousins, Amara has only met her one time. They'd wrangled back in black stallion that just so happened to be a pegasus. Amara found Carina's habits and speech patterns to be amusing but often spoke to her in a different language just to make it a little easier.

They met very recently at the hotel Monteleone's famous bar. Currently Amara is under the impression that he'll get a beer belly before long and that certain body parts probably don't function well - cause, you know, he was day drinking.
