Is Christianity properly presented by the church?
PostPosted: Thu Mar 30, 2006 12:11 pm

Is Christianity properly presented by the church? I think that it is very difficult to properly present it. It takes a lot of dedication and training. And even so the Bible is filtered and watered through our interpretion of what we read.

I personaly have a hard time explaining to someone the complexities of the Bible. I enjoy reading it and I enjoy learning about the history of Biblical archeology. But what I enjoy and understand may not be what others enjoy and understand.

In closing I do not believe that the Bible will be totally and competely presented until the coming of Jesus. As a people we are simple minded and prone to confusion and sin. How can we understand God if we can't understand ourselves.

Well I personally don't d many f the things that most 'christians' do. I see Christianity as a lifestyle more then a religion.

Sadly I'm not doing too well. But atleast I admit it.

The way churches -- or the Catholic Church, whichever you mean -- present themselves really doesn't matter beyond a certain extent. Religion primarily rests on the individual, and once you factor in outside stimuli and persuasion from outside sources (media, culture, friends, family), the individual determines what he or she will think of something.

Does the Catholic Church accurately reflect Christianity? I don't see why it wouldn't. Too many Christians get wrapped up in the Bible, the Bible, the Bible, and some believe it's the *only* thing one should think about. Sadly, that's not true. The Bible is a tool for Christians to utilize, the written Word of God, but it's not the *only* thing that exists. Tradition, teachings passed down from Jesus Christ himself, exist within the Catholic Church, and these are worth noticing ...

So, my answer to your question would be that A) churches are fine (give or take some extremists) and B) the individual is more important, anyway.

Hello, by the way. I'm Daniel. New here, methinks ...

It's more a fault of the media for misrepresenting the church, and then the ignorant for believing them (and thus spreading "popular opinion"), than the church actually doing bad things.

The church does have problems, but not nearly as much as those that report on it.

The church is not like a movie you go to watch every week or some kind of school you attend. You are a part of it and should be active. If there are problems, see what you can do to help resolve them.

The Church is set apart and will have signs. The biggest two are 1) the Word is preached in it's purity (Law and Gospel) and 2) the Sacraments are administered correctly. Because God has given these gifts to His Church, she should use them. The Bible is the Word of God and it is what God wants us to have, no matter what we think of it. It is him speaking to his people and it is the rule by which we "judge the spirits".
That being said, I think most "churches" today do not use what God gives and misrepresent Christianity. Many "churches" believe that Rome was so wrong when in fact they only had some errors, hance it being called the Reform-ation. Jesus says that not all who say to him "Lord, Lord!" will enter the kingdom, so we better be d!*n sure that we what he said and who is right today.

Truth is priceless, without it, the church is worthless.
