The call came to Cybele when she was out, doing a quick check around her neighborhood. It was warm on her starseed, inviting, and she accepted it without hesitation, allowing herself to be pulled through space.

With all the new developments, she wanted all the information that she could get, and this seemed like a chance for something like that.

It only took a moment for Cybele to realize that she recognized this place. The sleek white stone and ancient architecture marked it as the Moon, but beyond that, it was the set of rooms where Cosmos had brought everyone to recover after the battle with Lyndin.

She wondered, briefly, if it had been cosmos who had called her here now. People talked about her like she was almost a deity in her own right, and given what Cybele had seen of her, she was certainly extremely powerful. It was possible that she had been the one who had given Cybele her own increased power.

Possible
, but if that was the case, she did not seem to be here to follow up on it.

Instead, she saw a swirling ball of light hovering over a pedestal. She remembered this, too. Some of the knights had been talking to it, that night. She didn't know what they'd said, though. Her knight connections were a bit lacking compared to the senshi ones.

Cybele shifted into her Princess form, and took half a step forwards to steady herself. She still wasn't used to the way the wings shifted her center of balance, and with her feet, that balance was always a bit off anyway. Still, something about this place seemed to require full decorum, so she held the wings high as she took a few steps forward.

"You're called the Code, aren't you?" she asked, nothing but polite. "Are you the one who called me here? Did you need something?"

As always, the Code seemed untouched by anything. It glowed with the same bright light that it always did, and no matter how many pieces of itself that it parted with, it never seemed to shrink in size or presence.

“Cybele,” it greeted, polite and welcoming without being friendly. It seemed practical and contemplative, and though it did not want to alarm her there seemed to be something important about this meeting.

“I called you, yes. I am glad we need no introductions. It will save us time. I need only what you need. The power to protect this universe and drive away the threat of harm. We have both been touched by Chaos. So I have no doubt you understand how important it is to use every resource we have available to us. You know me, so I assume you know what I do. Congratulations are in order, aren’t they? You’ve overcome a lot to earn those wings. How is your world doing?”

"I don't know exactly what it is that you do," Cybele admitted, although her gaze never faltered, "Only that you're connected to Knights in some way."

Perhaps she should have known more, because it wasn't like there were no Knights in her life at all. They were her brothers. One was her lover. She had just been searching so much for other kinds of information that she hadn't delved much into the details of their magic, or what made them different from senshi. She certainly hadn't asked about the entity that she was now finding herself face to face with.

"But thank you," she said, gracious to the congratulations, and while there was confusion and doubt swirling through her chest, feelings like this was all false, all a dream, or at the very least some sort of mistake, she took care not to let any of that show through to her face.

Those were thoughts for those close to her, not for ancient and powerful entities.

"My world is well. It's showing signs of life. The forest is lush, and it almost feels like every time I go up, I find another creature."

Any complicated feelings there were likewise covered with a smile.

“Good,” the Code said simply. The word hung in the air for a moment before it spoke again. It did not need to think, so the pause must have been for her benefit.

“I grant power to the Knights, and create bonds between Wonders and their protectors,” it explained. “It takes a great source of power to make a Knight. Only worlds whose Senshi have unlocked power as you have can maintain the energy needed. I haven’t made a new bond with such a world in quite some time. They are rare, these days. I want to give you the opportunity to protect your world.”

The Code piece glowed a bit brighter, like it was collecting its energy. Like it already had too much.

“You are a Princess, now. You’ll be a greater target. There are those who will try to corrupt you and your world to steal that power for themselves.” It spoke as if it already knew she understood this danger. “If I could offer you Knights to help protect your world, would you let them? The power of your World, and the power I can grant, would give Cybele extra protection, and Earth.”

So it was the source of the power of Knights. That wasn't something that came as a shock, considering what Cybele had seen, but she nodded at the confirmation all the same.

Her polite smile dipped a bit sideways when it told her of the target that would be on her world, as well as on herself. "I know," she said simply. The others in her life had been quick to remind her of the danger that t his was going to bring. At least, they'd reminded her of the danger that this was going to bring to herself.

She hadn't thought that there might be danger to her world. For all of her mixed feelings about it, it was always a safe haven for her, a place to get away from the conflict for a bit. A target on her back didn't bother her, but the thought of something happening to her world made a strange protectiveness flare up in her chest.

"Of course I'd let others, let Knights, help," she said. Honestly, something like that was more than she could ask for. It would help Earth, too. The more people who were able to awaken, the better their chances would be against the Negaverse. She wasn't selfish enough to say no to something like that just because she wanted a world that was exclusively hers.

She didn't necessarily want that, anyway. Sometimes it felt too quiet up there, like there were meant to be more people.

"You'd need land, wouldn't you? Wonders?" She knew that much about Knights. "Take whatever you need."

“I won’t take them from you,” the Code informed, if only because it wasn’t quite sure what understanding she might have had. “I only need to be able to connect with them. In older times, there were rituals. There were people to help with the process. In these days, we have to make due with what we can. If I were at full strength, we would install a Cornerstone Piece on your world–one such as myself. Strong enough to communicate, to take form. I think it’s too dangerous for me to split myself just to travel to your world. But I think there is a way around that.”

It was quiet for a moment, because if her knowledge of Knights was already somewhat limited, this wasn’t going to be easy for her to take in, either.

It was a big decision, an important one.

“I can resonate with your world. But for me to do that, I’ll need to borrow your Crystal. I won’t make you part with it, but I can’t attune with your world if I don’t have access to it. All you need to do is summon it, I’ll do the rest. It’s painless. Once we’ve attuned, I’ll be able to sense those with the potential to become Knights, to guard your world. When I find them, I can break off a small part of myself and plant it on your world. You may feel a bit tired when I do this, it is siphoning the power directly from your world. It won’t be much, but you might notice it. It’s nothing that won’t restore itself. I would never damage you or your world.”

Cybele nodded with nearly every word the Code spoke. It said this was something that was meant to have rituals surrounding it, something that would take time and energy. It was an alliance of sorts, Cybele supposed, and not something to be taken lightly.

It was possible, she hoped, to take the offer seriously without hesitating.

She wanted her world protected, and more importantly, she wanted as many people in the city as possible to be able to have the power needed to defend themselves. If she could help with either of those things in any way, of course she would.

Anyway, there were Knights and parts of the Code on other planets, all the time. She wasn't worried that it was something dangerous.

She summoned her crystal to her hand in a small flash of silver light.

"I trust you," she said. "Like I said, I'll do what you need."

A slight moment passed before she asked, "So you think I'll notice if you awaken a Knight, or, put a piece of yourself, on my world?"

Or would she just notice knights wearing her symbol on the streets one day? That was what the Code meant, wasn't it?

“You may notice,” it answered, fairly noncommittal. The Code wasn’t being elusive, it was just simply an unknown.

The miniscule, misty molecules of swarming light pulsed with energy, and it seemed to grow brighter as it pulled her crystal in towards it. It wasn’t an uncomfortable situation by any means; it wasn’t like someone grabbing her starseed and trying to crush it. There was no sick squeeze of Chaos.

It was a light sensation that she could feel as if it were in her bones. It was warm, and friendly. It might have even tickled a bit.

It was safe.

The light grew brighter, and when it finally peaked, it flashed. A shockwave of power rippled around it–not so much that it disturbed anything, but just enough that it summoned a magical breeze.

“Some Senshi were able to. A little tickle in the back of their mind. Some of them said it felt like an idea had suddenly popped into their head, only disappeared before they could identify it. Some didn’t know at all. If you are aware, if the conditions are right, I think it’s very possible that you’ll be able to pick up on them. I don’t intend to make a secret of it, but sometimes the flow of magic is more cohesive. Sometimes the call is louder.”

It was difficult to simplify what was such a unique experience for so many; there was no standard. The magic manifested in its own way, and only time would tell how Cybele would receive it.

“You can take your crystal back, I’ve finished. Thank you. I suspect you’ll notice for at least the first few. Pay attention to when your energy levels, and be aware of your surroundings. It might happen suddenly, so take note of any changes. And if you have any questions, you are always welcome to visit me. I will do all I can to support you.”

And all the Knights that could exist because of her.

The answer was another maybe, then, going with the theme of the rest of this magical existence that could so rarely be predicted or explained. Cybele nodded at the information all the same, not really frustrated.

At least it wasn't like she'd be caught off guard if a Cybele knight came to her on patrol one night.

When the Code took her crystal, she closed her eyes and tried to focus, tried to be willing and helpful about it, almost like she'd been at her purification. She wasn't sure if it actually did anything at all, but the process seemed to work all the same. She felt the release of energy, the wind, and the hint of heaviness that crept into her own body, after.

It wasn't so much that she couldn't remain standing tall, however.

"Thank you," she said, professional again. "It will mean a lot to my world to have more people around, and it will help with the protection, as you say."

And, it went without saying, but she would do what she could to protect them in turn.

"I think I will go back to rest now, but you can call me here again if you need something."

She supposed this came with responsibilities, but she would do what she could to meet them.

The Code had no form by which to nod or smile, but somehow there was something in the air that felt relieved. Grateful. The light glowed a little brighter, but it was pleasant and warm.

“Thank you.”

Their business had concluded but there was an untold future awaiting them.

“I will keep you on longer. If you ever have need, you can come visit me. I will share what I can.” Though its guidance might have been better spent on Knights, she was a Princess, and she was sharing her world–and her power–with the Code.

They had similar goals; it was a fortuitous alliance for the both of them.

“Rest well.”
