Morgan rolled out of bed lazily as she felt her phone vibrate beneath her pillow. It was Kioshi letting her know he had something to show her so she groaned a sleepy response and began to make her way to the shower to get ready for the day. It was way too early for her to be awake after spending the night draining and stealing money to pay rent and the water just rolled over her as she contemplated life and just going back to sleep.
After her hour of just standing in the water and doing the bare minimum to be clean, she dug through the hamper of clothing and sniff tested things until she found an outfit that still smelled of fresh and clean laundry detergent. Once she was dressed, she decided to just leave her hair down and unbraided for the day. Maybe she would put it back up later but she didn’t wanna dig out the hair dryer to do it now. With one last check of her phone, keys, and wallet in her pockets, she left her apartment and locked the door.
It wouldn’t take her too long to get to the shop she had gotten her most recent piercing at so she just doom scrolled her way through instagram as she walked, looking for any news on upcoming concerts that would happen here in the city. It would be cool to have someone to go with when one came up but not everyone was into the same music and vibes as she was. Hopefully she could maybe nab Kioshi for one or at least a night out and if things didn’t go well she could just drain him a little maybe?

Koishi had come in early that morning, proud of the work he’d done, and after everyone had agreed what he’d filled his sketch book with was good enough he’d placed a call with Morgan to let her know. He wanted to see her at some point in the day so he could show her what he’d been working on, as he wanted to know what she was feeling about his ideas.
While he waited, and was trying to avoid everyone's attention and praise, Koishi went to get himself an espresso from the cafe down the block. He really hated how his nerves had gotten to him today, bothering his stomach all morning, because he’d worried over what his co-workers had thought of his work. He’d never cared before, at least with this life of his, and yet he had cared about opinions right now because it was such a new thing for him.
Returning, hot cup in hand, he’d let himself back into the shop and took the time to look around. Had she arrived yet?

Morgan must have missed him just barely leaving as she walked into the shop, the receptionist let her know to have a seat and that he would be back so she did so. It only took her a moment to make herself at home and zone out as she tried to wake up more, she really looked like death barely warmed over with the bags under her eyes. If she wore any makeup other than lipstick she might have had the sense to use concealer to cover that up but that really was too much effort today.
It only took a few more minutes before he walked back in the door with coffee. “Man… I shoulda thought about coffee or even a redbull or something. I’m deadass tired after working last night.” She waved from her seat at him before standing up and walking back over towards the counter where she had seen him sitting last time.
“How are you today, you really wake up early don’t ya? I really don’t get how people can function before like noon yanno.” She rubbed her face slightly as she tried to push the sleep away some more.

“I don’t like it but I do have bills so I need to be up to make the job.” He needed to make money, like everyone else, so it meant getting up early and dragging his tired self to work, as he was a bit of a night owl himself. He didn’t go out clubbing, or drinking, that would require him to be a people person and he was not that. He was fairly certain he’d never been much of a people person in fact, since his want or need to deal with people just naturally seemed so low.
“I have sketches, I’ve been working to get the right look, I just want to go over the ideas and see what you like. Some are just of the horse and some just the horseman, I can combine them if you want. Others are of both together. I wanted to focus, at first, on getting one single part of it right and fleshing out the idea and how to make it right.” He’d really taken his time with this, taking it seriously, he’d put in the time and effort it required.
“Come back to my room and check out what I have? I’m sure we can find a redbull somewhere if you need.” Though they didn’t offer such to people getting work done, caffeine was a big no go for people getting pierced or inked.

“I guess, but I work the night shift like all the time so the sun is the devil to me. But yea hit me with whatcha got goin on for sketches. I could go for any combo of them but I’m excited to see whatcha did for it all.” She nodded for a moment and started walking with him to the back to his station she had seen.
“I could also really vibe with a redbull to get the brain juices flowing too, I appreciate that a lot Kioshi.” It would at least give her the slow fast feeling where she was vibrating with caffeine and a bit more attentiveness while still looking like death warmed over.

His own little work room was filled with sketches, drawings and the like. Everything in his room was asian inspired, mostly japanese in nature, it showed off his tyle and what he found inspiring for himself. But he had his sketchbook open to the first of several pages he’d worked on for her. “Have a seat.” A chair or on the bed for clients to lay on while he worked on them. “I’ll grab a drink for you, you look at what I’ve worked on.”
Stepping out of the room he headed for the backroom. He knew that while clients couldn’t have caffeine it didn’t mean the workers couldn’t, and didn’t. He knew his coworkers had a thing for caffeine and redbulls, monsters, and that new fizzy energy drink were all popular. For himself he went for flavored water, aloe water, and other things when he wasn’t drinking coffee or espresso.
Grabbing a drink for her, explaining it was for a client he was doing a consult with, Koishi headed back to his little room and offered the drink. His coworker in the back room had simply not cared about him grabbing a redbull from the fridge, since the client wasn’t being inked today.

It was neat seeing the kind of stuff he mainly worked on, everything was so gorgeous and delicate looking. The scales and fins of the koi looked so real that part of her kinda wanted to get one of those done maybe. It wouldn’t suit her style but she really could appreciate the work he had put into it. “Ah, sure, thanks.” Taking a seat she looked through the pages of the sketch book, there was a definite style difference in the stuff he had been working on for her. It was a lot more western in style with bolder posing and linework. Each one was amazing in it’s own way and she could tell he really had worked on it from various angles. She wondered how much research he had managed to squeeze in since the last time she was here.
After looking through the pages she paused, and touched one of the sketches delicately. This one… this one looked like the form she had seen in the fog. She couldn’t be sure but it felt right. Headless by an ethereal sort of flame, almost like a will-o-wisp floated where the head would have been. There was a horse with skeletal armor and a whip of bone in it’s hand. This had to be it, she could feel it.
Running the math in her head as Kioshi walked back in, she made her decision. “This one. This one is perfect.” She had said it with a firm assurance in her voice, much more clearly than the mumbling she had been doing today. “When can we start?”

Looking over at the one she’d picked he nodded. That sketch had been on a whim, it was the only one that had something in the place of a head, in this case a sort of flame. He’d figured he might stray a bit from the myths and legends by doing that, making it his own take on the legendary imagery, and it seemed he’d done well by doing that. The whip as well had been an original idea. He was trying to bring some modern take on the idea and it seemed to vibe well here; good.
“We can start when you want, not today though.” That was said while pointing to her drink. “You can set up appointments up front. I’ll charge a deposit fee on the first appointment and the rest when it’s done. So if you back out at some point you are only out the deposit.” He wouldn’t do the deposit fee now, or even before the first appointment, incase she did decide for some reason to back out. He didn’t think she would though, it wasn’t the feeling he was getting from her.
“If you decide anything needs changing between now and then let me know, even if it’s colors to use on the clothing or anything else.” Though he did hope to at least keep the horse black in color, as that seemed the most fitting, the rest was up for discussion if she wanted it changed at all. “Price…let’s go five hundred on it. I’ll take a third for the deposit and the rest when done. Sound good?”

“I’m up for it as soon as I can. I can adjust my work schedule on a whim pretty much so I can be ready whenever you have time. Also I love the colors you chose for it, it feels perfect and like exactly what I was thinking. Seeeeeee you could do it!” She teased a little as she sipped the redbull.
“I have a couple ideas of where I’m gonna put it so that price will work for the size it’s gonna be and I can swing that with the OT I put in at my graveyard shift.” By OT she had meant the ramping up of wallet thefts she had done during her draining runs. She had managed a sweet three thousand in the past week alone and had finally upgraded her phone while she was at it too.
“Let’s go up there and get everything scheduled, I think I’d like to do the deposit today so I don’t have to deposit cash into my account just to pull it back out yanno.” It would be suspicious if she just randomly deposited a metric crap ton of cash all of the sudden when her pay from 7/11 was like maybe 250 every two weeks.

“I managed to but I had the time I needed to do it.” Without the time it had taken him he wasn’t sure he could have, it was a lot of work looking over pictures and references from all over the internet. He’d even read into the legends in order to get it right and offer up fitting ideas, wanting to somehow show some respect to the actual legends and what was supposed to be fact.
“Ok, so I can be ready whenever you are. I don’t have a lot scheduled on the books.” He had a few but most of them were one session things…maybe a few which were more but it wasn’t a lot. He was still an apprentice so he didn’t get as much work as he’d like, or big pieces as he’d want.
“Ok, we can do that and you can let me know where you want it. When you come in that day I’ll do the stencil and we’ll make sure it all looks good and start things.”

“Cool cool, how about here this weekend?” She said it half to him and half to the person at the desk as she stood up and made her way that way, pulling out her chain wallet that was overstuffed at this point in time. “This is gonna be probably the coolest thing I’ve ever gotten done in my opinion.” She smiled excitedly at the idea of her first tattoo as well as how cool this looked. The weekend couldn’t come soon enough and she would work more overtime at draining to get a good tip together for Kioshi when everything was done.
“Oh yea, I got a new phone but it has the same number I just don’t have the names on any number that calls so shoot me a text when you get the chance and I can re-add your name to my contacts? My old phone has gone to the great garbage can in the sky.” She pulled out her flip 4 and smiled a bit at it, it was just one of those things that was neat and a throwback to the past.
After everything was settled with the appointment and the deposit, she took a sheet of paper from the desk worker that explained the do’s and don'ts of getting tattooed. It said a lot of stuff about being well rested and hydrated so maybe she would take the night before off. “Cool cool, thankies.” She nodded at them both and tucked everything back away into her pockets.

“The weekend sounds good.” And while he had a few small things to work on, a client here and there, he knew he’d be able to fit Morgan in…at least he was fairly certain he could. Ashley who handled their appointments was able to confirm it though and wrote Morgan in for a midday Saturday appointment. He’d have enough time to get things going with her and then they’d figure out the next appointment, as he was fairly certain one more would be needed. He didn’t want to overdo it with this piece and try and do it all in one go.
“Alright, I’ll text later.” And he would, he liked to at least keep in touch with clients before appointments. “So follow the sheet there and we’ll all be good.” Nodding his head to her he watched her leave and leaned back on the counter. That had gone well, at least he didn’t feel so nervous now. It was done and she liked his art and had settled on something. This would be good.
