Niko grew up normal well fairly normal. When he was growing up he showed a knack for learning and fighting. It started with normal games with friends using sticks as swords and imagination. When he was old enough he was given a decent education and a decent amount of fighting training. He took up and mastered the swords fairly quickly moving to working on polearms. After his education was complete he enlisted and worked his way through the ranks. His first time encountering any ritual was the ritual of drinking the dragons blood to become a reaver. It went well some 'recruits' died and some lived. He was one of the lucky ones to manage to survive. It was on another mission however that he found the power of a reaver. The intense bloodlust that had felt like it was eating him alive caused him to go temporarily insane and start killing anything and everything around him. This left him as the last living member in his squad and found him in some deep trouble. His saving grace was his cousin the now king Alistair. They managed to cover up the incident and he was taken to the Grey Wardens. This was to make up for his past mistakes and maybe one day reconcile the battle that haunts him.
