Yep, I like to collect anime more but have more manga as anime are expensive. I just got nozaki-kun for my birthday last week
I think in the long manga is more expensive if its more than 4 volumes long. My rurouni kenshin one of 28 volumes cost me more than 200 bucks. xD
If you get the three-in-one volumes, it would be considerably cheaper. In my area, individual volumes are around $10, whereas the 3-in-1 is $15. So Instead of $300 for all 28 volumes of RuroKen, you could instead pay about $150.
For the Complete TV series collection, it'll depend on where you buy it, as the ranges vary greatly, but at Barnes and Noble, it's $125.
My concern is also being able to reread/rewatch. I don't have a lot of faith that my anime DVDs will last as long as my manga. Stuff happens, sure, but if there's a flood, my DVDs are done for, but my manga may still have some hope of salvaging them. Fire? Everything's gone, for sure. But those are extremes. If I lose one volume of the manga (individual volumes, not the 3-in-1), then that's a small portion of the story I wouldn't be able to reread for a while, whereas, if I lose a DVD, or it gets terribly damaged, that's a larger portion of the story I wouldn't be able to indulge in, and probably for longer because anime is harder to find in stores here. Plus, replacing individual DVD volumes would be more costly than manga.
But that's me and how I view it.
