When the world began it was overflowing with magic. Every creature that came into being was aware of this and had a natural understanding of magic. Dragons were the first and most powerful. They shaped the lands for all who came after.
Everything was at peace until a race was born without magic. Having no natural understanding of the things around it, destruction followed. The humans roamed the land disrupting the other creatures way of life. They killed out of fear and took without thought.
The dragons decided among themselves to try and teach this rampant race. The dragons changed some of the people they met so they could serve as interpreters. These people were known as Kaida meaning little dragon. They had limited use of magic compared to their teachers. Their bodies were strengthened. They gave them a language close to their own.
They taught the Kaida how to respect the world and they passed this knowledge on to the humans.

Nara had been out with her tribe's hunting party when an earthquake shook the gorge they'd been planning to use to scout donkeys bellow at it's base, drinking from what was left of a river bellow. Her last memory was of falling a long distance and blurry faces reaching out for her but their hands just missing each other. Even their names and where their tribe resides was lost to her.
"Where did my memories go?" Nara wondered, reaching inward for any memory of the blurry faces in her only memory after waking in soft sand along a creek bed. As she rolled over to get up her chest ached, a few broken ribs made it hard to take deep breaths. Looking up, there was nothing but sky and cliff ledges. The only trail into the deep gorge was a days journey in either direction, she wasn't even sure if their home survived the earthquake or if either trail was accessible after the quake.
A group of donkeys curiously munched on rare blades of grass closer and closer to her as she struggled to move. She reached out as one approached arms reach. It sniffed her hand before rubbing it's nose against her finger tips then bowed it's head by her torso. She used his fur to help pull herself up then managed to climb onto it's back before starting north up the gorge.

Erim had been roaming the forest mountain that bordered her home village. She had been gone for days and wondered much further than she had before. She felt the ground shake.
"Much stronger here on the mountain" she thought
Her horse pawed the ground and shook his head. Erim ran her hand across his sleek black neck.
"there are signs of a stream not far off" she said "Lets find it and then head toward home"
The mountain split in two and the stream ran through the middle. She let her horse roam while she took a look around. There were piles of dirt filled with rocks and a few trees. Eventually she came across a path that headed up.
"Too narrow for your feet my friend" she spoke out loud to him
She heard a donkey making a fuss and squinted to see someone a distance up the path.
"hello?" Erim called out in friendship

Nara could feel herself going in and out of consciousness, luckily the donkey carrying her kept fussing and waking her back up. She heard a voice call out "hello" and for a second thought it was the donkey but realized she was hearing a second set of hooves echoing through the gorge as she looked up and saw another person approaching on horseback.
"Can you help me?" Nara asked, gripping her chest, not realizing how much it would hurt just to talk. "I fell from up there, I think I broke some ribs..." She winced and was hesitant to talk much more.
