I am trying to find some exchange programs that will let me go to japan, but i need ones with scholarships because my mom doesnt make much money.

I am trying to go for a year, probably like the year of march 2007 - january 2008? But if I can at least go for a couple weeks of summer, then I will take that too

I just want to go to Japan before I leave high school, thats my dream!!

I am currently a Sophomore in high school that had between a 3.0 and 3.5 GPA.

Please help me out if you can!

The only suggestion I have is maybe trying to figure out if any schools in the vacinity offer an exchange and try to latch yourself on to them. That's what a friend of mine is doing. Mind you it's only for two weeks and you have to pay yourself. At least's that what my schools "exchange" program is.

Do you have a local rotary?? Because I know that some rotaries around the world participate in long-term exchanges. If your local rotary doesn't partcipate you can always ask them and they should have information about places that do particpate. It is probably different with your rotary but I know with mine they pay for your schooling, boarding and they give you a monthly pocket money. It also depends on how generous your host families are as to how much you have to pay for food etc. But you have to provide the costs for like airfare there and back, your passport, insurence and stuff like that. Then you also have to pay for the year while you are over there like clothes etc.

Ok, here is my ex-Japanese high schooler advice...if you are looking for a scholarship program go Roatary. AFS and YFU are other big programs but they don't have much in the way of financial support. You also need a large cash reserve for Japan because it is such an expensive country. Stuff like cell phone (which I would classify as a social necessity) school supplies, transit, etc. are all fairly expensive. Also, keep in mind that the Japanese school year starts in March/April so that can often make it very tricky.

But let me give you all a very very big warning. Japanese high school is absolutely positively nothing like anime at all. It is hard, very hard. Also it is boaring as all hell. While you will surely increase your language skills I would recommend that you wait until college because Japanese high school life is very stressful and socially unsatisfying, espcially when you come to Japan not knowing the language as well as you might think.
