Menelie
In the moons that followed, Tirzah went home a lot less. She was most often found at Rho's alcove, and so was Mena. They hadn't really talked about it, but they had formed sort of a triad, spending more time as a group of three and taking care of one another. Her heart was full. Mena seemed like he was warming up to her more, no longer flinching and blushing when she so much as ruffled his hair. One night when Rho was bathing, they had worked out a bit of a schedule, ensuring that both of them got enough one-on-one time with Rho. They'd done it in secret because they were both more practical than dear Rho, who would have not wanted to talk about it and then it would've just been awkward. Tirzah wished that she and Mena got more time alone together, as she wanted to get to know him better, but where she understood this arrangement as a triad, she suspected Mena didn't share that view, and instead thought of them as co-partners with Rho. Whatever helped him sleep at night, she guessed. As for Rho...well, Tirzah wished he would be a little more open with his own feelings, but she guessed that was a work in progress too.

Menahem felt like he was floating most days. Never in his wildest dreams did he ever think he'd end up in any kind of romantic relationship with Rho, and here he was. And sure, he would prefer not to be "sharing", he was slowly coming around to the idea of Tirzah. After all, it had been her kindness and stubbornness that had gotten them where they were, and Mena wouldn't forget that. Besides, she was great fun to be around, even if she did keep trying to flirt with him. He was getting desperate, though, to know what Rho was thinking about all this, but Mena didn't dare bring it up lest this whole fantasy come crashing down around his antlers.

Today, though, might have to be the day as there was something he urgently needed to talk through with Rho and Tirzah. He'd had the breakfast shift today with Sven, who had been asking some awfully pointed questions. The man was not at all subtle even when he thought he was. Mena dropped by his alcove to wash up and grab a few things, then went to Rho's alcove even though he knew they wouldn't be there. Rho and Tirzah would still be in the fields for hours yet. Stressed out, Mena tidied the whole alcove, then made dinner to be ready for when Rho and Tirzah got back.

Daisicle
Rho had to say he was pretty content with life right now. Between his family coming around and accepting Tirzah, to their continued and evolving relationship, it was good. Good enough that Rho was getting a bit more bold with how he interacted with his pair of lovers, be it a bit more PDA with Tirzah or some more intimate sorts of trolling with Mena. He'd even gotten more comfortable participating in... strenuous activity... with just the homie. No homo of course. He was riding the high of life and not really thinking much of it.

He was coming back from a long day in the fields and in much need of a shower when he walked into an impeccably clean alcove - it practically smelled of soaps, whatever it was that was on the stove, and smoke from the firewood to cook it. "Yo, sup cutie, did we have a thing planned tonight? Must have forgot." He leisurely walked on over and draped an arm over Mena's shoulder before whispering in his ear. "Wanna join me in the shower, maybe get a load off?"

Menelie
Menahem was almost powerless to resist the invitation. He giggled and put his arm around Rho's waist, resting his hand on his hip. "Next time, love," he murmured back. "Supper will be ready soon and I suspeeeeeect that it'll burn if I join you." He took a deep breath. "I think I'm too jittery besides."

Tirzah appeared a few moments later. She got off the same time as Rho but he had to come all the way in from the fields, where she didn't. So usually she stopped by her own alcove to shower before coming here. Her hair was still damp and loose as she entered without knocking, and she smelled sweet and clean. She snickered seeing the two men together all wrapped around each other. "Oh hello Mena," she said breezing. "Wasn't expecting you tonight! How was work? And are you cooking? It smells like ambrosia in here."

Daisicle
Rho shrugged nonchalantly as Mena turned down his advances - he wasn't gonna force the issue - then sighed in a theatrical manner, "Suit yourself." He was about to pull off and away when Tirzah let herself in, to which he offered a lazy sort of wave with the arm still draped on Mena. "Hey there babe - that post-shower look of yours lookin' fine as always."

He then glanced over at Mena and smirked in a surely-annoying way as he whispered, "Y'know, I'm sure Tirzah would watch the stove if you asked," before pulling back and stretching his arms over his head. "Gimme a bit, I'm still dirty af. Lemme go shower real quick." He gave a half-hearted peace sign as he excused himself to go get clean.

Menelie
Tirzah made a little kissy face at Rho at the compliment. After he left, she turned to Menahem. "Did you....clean Rho's alcove?"

Mena blushed. "I've had a lot on my mind. And my place is already tidy. I clean when I'm stressed." He shrugged.

"Well next time you get stressed come to my place," she joked with a little chuckle. "What's making you stressed, hon? Hard day at work?"

"It's, uh, it's complicated. I'll talk about it once we're sitting down to dinner. I need his input too," he said, hooking his thumb in the direction of the bathroom.

"Mmkay," said Tirzah. "But in the meantime try not to get so wound up. You can't do anything about it right this second so try to take your mind off it, OK? Here, can I help with dinner or anything?" She walked toward the kitchen area, grabbing his hand as she passed him.

"Oh, it's no trouble Tirzah, I got it," he demurred as he found himself towed into the kitchen. "Should be finishing up right when he's done with his shower."

"Well then at least tell me about it," said Tirzah.

Once she'd gotten him going, Mena spent the whole time Rho was in the shower chatting to Tirzah about food and cooking. He'd all but forgotten his problems until Rho emerged.

Daisicle
Rho might have internally clicked his tongue when nobody joined him for his shower adventure, but also got over it rather quickly. It honestly didn't take too long to lather up and clean off, so in no time he was back out with a towel loosely over his shoulders and his hair still dripping just a bit.

He helped set the table (if there was anything left for him to do anyways) and leisurely sat in his chair before laying it out. "So what's eating at you? Been a hot minute since I came back to food and such a clean place." He figured the faster they got this over with, the less stress there'd be.

Menelie
Seeing Rho as he came out suddenly made Menahem awful sorry he hadn't asked Tirzah to watch the stove. But he swallowed his feelings and served dinner, which was a simple roasted chicken for him and Rho to split, and a savory roasted butternut squash for Tirzah, with greens on the side. "So, uh, I shared a station with Sven this morning and he was...real curious about you and Tirzah. And this is a Faun who doesn't want to talk about relationships unless they're his own." He grimaced. "And like, the way he was phrasing stuff was really, I dunno, rehearsed? And just...peculiar. I feel insane thinking this, but it almost sounded like the way Alba talks."

Daisicle
"Man, don't ever want to go to the communal meal when I can get better right here," Rho mused as he reached over to cut off and serve a thigh + drumstick for both meat-eaters and, with different knife because Tirzah had gotten annoyed at him once for using the same one as meat, served her a chunk of the squash. Looked like they'd probably have enough for the middays meal tomorrow too. He looked over at Mena curiously once he was finished serving the food, having listened to the conundrum in the process. "Are you sure you're not being paranoid? Sven's pretty weird in his own right from what you've said and how he acted at Hearth's Warming..." He took a bite of his chicken, marveling how juicy it was.

Menelie
Mena made a doubtful face. "Mm, not like this. He's weird in that he doesn't give one single ******** about other people's business and he was just...downright nosy. But that's not the part I care about. He was, uh, asking about me. And like, how me and you are doing." He gestured back and forth between them. "I believe the exact question was 'So you and Alba's brother are pretty close, right?'. Like, not even subtle." He ran a hand through his hair. "I dunno, man, I think at least your sister is suspicious."

Daisicle
Rho raised a brow, "Wow, were those his words verbatim? They hella sound like something straight from Alba's mouth. But there's no way she'd--" he was about to defend his sister, but paused to muse on it a bit longer and grimaced as he came to his conclusion, "No, she hella would use him to snoop. Ugh that's a massive pain. D'ya think we could just like, I dunno, play it off and wait for her interest to die down? There's gotta be other s**t that'd catch her attention...".

Menelie
"I dunno man," repeated Mena. "I don't want her to think you're like, dating Tirzah and then fooling around with me."

Tirzah snorted. "I mean, that's exactly what he's doing, only we're all in on it."

Mena still looked uncomfortable. "What we have is kind of unconventional. I don't want anyone getting the wrong idea. I can tell Sven where he can stick his questions but, uh, not Alba." She was scary. "And if she said something to your mother? Or worse, your grandmother? You know how close she is with Alba." He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. "I don't really have a family to worry about, all I got's yours."

Daisicle
Rho looked over at Tirzah with a bit of a pout, "Hey, it's not -exactly- what I'm doing..." He was a bit more attached to Mena than he was when he just fooled around with someone.

"He's right though, I guess we got lucky that Alba's tryna be subtle about this. I could maybe get my mother to come around enough if she found out, but my grandmother... I just don't think this would vibe with her." It had been hard enough practicing with Tirzah to make sure they wouldn't let slip about the daemon in her blood at Hearth's Warming - for whatever reason, Grammy Tia was -very- hostile towards the daemon and their kin - but this was a whole different animal. "Guess we gotta set our story straight," he glanced at Mena and poked some fun to try and keep the conversation lighthearted, "No offense."

Menelie
Tirzah winked at Mena as Rho pouted. She wanted him to know that's not what she thought was happening either, but that she was teasing Rho.

Mena's mood was lifted a little by Rho's accidental, oblique declaration that there was something more here, and then again by Tirzah's teasing, and once more by Rho's attempt at a joke. "I, um," he began reaching out and touching Rho's hand, "I just don't want anything bad to happen to what we all have." He couldn't reach Tirzahs hand from where he was sitting but he made meaningful eye contact with her.

Daisicle
Rho blushed lightly and scratched a cheek as he realized he'd been had by Tirzah, then nodded in agreement with Mena. He glanced between the two of them as he voiced his opinion, "Well, for the most part I think we can keep on as we've been doing? Obviously the story is that Tirzah and I are dating - she did come to the family Hearth's Warmings after all." That part practically wrote itself. He glanced over at Mena and continued, "I mean, can't we just say we're just really close friends if anyone - especially Alba - starts to pry? And I guess I could also tone down the teasing a bit outside of the alcove..." What a shame, he'd miss slapping that a** to get a reaction.

"But what do you think?" He didn't mean to leave Tirzah out of this, and she was certainly welcome to voice an opinion, but he figured this largely was abt himself and Mena.

Menelie
Mena nodded along as Rho spoke. If he were honest, he was hurt that they couldn't be more open about all of this. However, Faun were traditional sorts and this arrangement was definitely nontraditional. The most important thing was to be able to keep their little "family" safe. He'd rather only be able to be Rho's in private than not at all. "I think that's a start..."

Tirzah, still new to Tree culture, didn't really understand why this was such a big deal, but it obviously was a big deal, so she'd do whatever was required. "I think whatever we do in public, the important thing is we are all clear about what is really going on. No secrets, no shame. Not from each other."

Daisicle
Rho nodded, figuring the worst was behind them now that they seemed to have reached a consensus about their public approach to this. He then looked over at Tirzah, tilting his head in confusion at what she was getting at.

Menelie
Catching Rho's confusion she elaborated. "Well, I can only speak for myself, but if things were the other way 'round, if you two were publicly dating and I was pretending to be 'just good friends'...I feel like I would need to hear, out loud, explicitly, what the truth was, so I would know it in my heart." Her tone was light but frank. "And if anything changed I would want to know that too."

Daisicle
Rho still didn't quite get what she was getting at, even if she was being fairly clear about it. So he tried a guess. "I mean... We're all three seeing each other, aren't we? I thought that was obvious. What else needs to be said?"

Menelie
Tirzah smiled. It was a start. "Well, I think that I haven't been as open with my own feelings, actually." She paused and set down her utensils, taking a drink before continuing. Maybe by giving an example she would inspire the boys to do the same. "Yes, my understanding is that we're all three seeing each other. And, Mena, that means me and you too. I don't expect anything more physically than what we're already doing, but I do wish we were closer. I wish I knew you better. I love and care about you, and if we're going to pretend something in public, behind closed doors I want us to be comfortable with each other." She smiled warmly at Mena.

Mena couldn't help but get a little misty-eyed as Tirzah spoke. His cheeks turned pink and he reached for his water cup. "I had no idea you felt that way," he said softly. He'd been trying to keep out of her way so she and Rho could do their thing. "I mean, I guess it's good we're talking about this. I think I would be happier if I was more clear about what 'seeing each other' meant." He scratched the back of his neck. "I love the...intimate time...we spend together, but is that the extent of it?" He glanced at Rho.

Daisicle
Oh, so -this- was what she meant by 'spelling it out'. Oh Earthmother it was more feel-y stuff. How explicit did he have to be with this - oh how he hated this sort of thing. Why weren't his actions alone enough? He squirmed a little under Mena's gaze, instinctively feeling the need to brush it off, but stopping himself. Maybe it was because he'd known him for so long, or maybe it was because he's male, but it felt a lot harder to be casually open in this way with him than it was with Tirzah. "C'mon man, do you really think we'd be having this conversation if... I didn't deeply care for you ...it would be hella easier to just stop this otherwise."

Menelie
Tirzah mentally facepalmed. "Darling," she began gently, putting a hand on Rho's.

Mena put a hand up. He didn't want Tirzah to always have to come to the rescue. "You don't have to say it right now, if you're not ready, love." He told Rho. "But I do need to hear it. I know you prefer to let your actions do the talking, and I'm content with that for the most part, but at least once, I need your words." His heart pounded. It was getting easier to talk about this, but it was still difficult to advocate for his own needs.

Daisicle
"What?" He looked at Tirzah, then at Mena. "I just said it, I literally just said it." He was now cringing internally so hard. He knew he said it, maybe not verbatim, but he said it.

Menelie
"Mm, that's not quite what I need. I need to hear what your feelings are about me, not what they aren't. Don't make me fill in the gaps by figuring out what you're omitting." He took Rho's hand and lifted it to his lips, kissing his knuckles. "But I've waited a long time for you; I'm willing to wait a little longer until you've found the words." He stood and started to clear the finished dinner dishes.

Tirzah also stood. "Oh, Mena, I'll take care of dishes, hon. Thank you again for cooking." She was stunned how Mena had handled himself, and it made her realize that she truly didn't know him as well as she would have liked at this point.

Daisicle
Rho pouted, slightly indignant. He knew what he said. It was like those two were poking fun at him now. Ultimately, however, if they were willing to drop the subject for now, he would too.

With an almost defeated sort of sigh, he glanced over. "You two leave me anything to do?"

Menelie
Mena glanced toward Tirzah, who raised her eyebrows suggestively. "Oh, yeah, Rho, I did need your help with something," he said innocently, backing toward the bedroom.

Daisicle
Rho smirked as he stood up, wholly picking up what they were putting down - yeah, he could work with this, if they insisted. "Oh right, you need me to whisper sweet nothings to you as we make up for earlier, isn't that right cutie?" He paused before following Mena into the bedroom to wink at Tirzah. "Just let yourself in when you're done babe if you're feeling up for it."
