Klaas has
really been keeping a low profile. Not because he'd done anything wrong, but because it just didn't feel right to do anything stupid to cause a ruckus.
That was boring though. Today the half-masked Oban man was looking around the settlement, biting down on his lip as he tried to figure out how to liven up the place in a way that wasn't going to cause any damage. It wasn't a proper village by any means, more of a hastily put together area, so damaging property would be
really bad.
With his dreads piled high on his head, he wandered around, hands behind his back, weaving in and out of what people there were in the areas that that were becoming roads, alleys, pathways. Just mapping, taking in people and what they were doing. Of course he got a few glances, there weren't
that many masked Obans running around, but at least he didn't look like he was about to steal anything. Especially since his coin purse was tied to his waist.
At least, he had thought so.
Now a stall owner who looked like they were selling home made crafts suddenly got in his face about
something.
"Why are you always around? Every time you come here, something is missing! Get out of here or I'll--"
"Whoa, whoa! I don't steal!" Klaas set his jaw and crossed his arms over his chest. "What kind of man do I look like?"
"A masked thief, that's what!" The old Oban man replied, jabbing a thin, knobby finger in Klaas' chest.
Klaas bristled and
just stopped himself short of getting in the man's face. "I
just got here, old man! I live near here, that's why I'm here all the time. I don't --"
"You came around yesterday and I have a pair of ear cuffs missing! Those look like them on your ears!"
"Are you kiddin- I have
had these!" He pointed to his ear, frowning. "You sell
beaded things! Not silver!"
"You callin' me a liar!?"
"If the shoe fits!"
That's when Klaas' face was struck with
something. He didn't know what, but it didn't hurt. It was just more of the insult that hurt his pride. So, Klaas did what he did best. He spit at the man's face and jogged away while the man was in disbelief.
Maybe it was time to move on. He was getting the same treatment here.
