As he had been walking to confront his brother, Vash suddenly found himself at a huge set of stairs with no memory of anything previous to that moment. He initially wandered the city helping with smallish tasks for residents so he could have a place for the night or a meal. Eventually he met someone who taught him how to make doughnuts, which brought out a childlike glee. At that point he began saving up money in order to open a doughnut shop of his own, above which he had his own modest apartment to live in. It has been roughly nine years since he arrived in Paradise Falls and while he does earn a decent amount with his doughnut shop, it could be much more profitable if he didn't have a habit of eating almost half of the doughnuts before they get placed to be sold.
