Thallassa 1

Thallassa was chilling on the beach with a line in the water, His Keldari; Uruher, sat under a leaf he had set up for him to give the reptile some sun shade. His line bobbed idly and he stared at it intensely . Something was thinking about taking the bait.

"Are you ready Uruher, hold onto your seat. Things are about to get really interesting up in here, might even turn into a fish dinner if we are lucky."

Today was a good day, he was relaxing, finally feeling completely content with his lot in life. Beside him sat an overfull picnic basket made for him by his Mother. She made the best meals but always packed about three times the amount of food he ever needed. He sighed in pure bliss and soaked up the sun, sand and wind.

He checked to make sure his scaley companion still had water before relaxing back down to stare at his fishing line.

[1/10]

Having lived in Oba most of her life, it was a bit... strange to be by the ocean. The sun was blazing hot, similar to Oba since it was so close, but there was a coolness to the air that was... foreign to her, and the ocean was equal parts beautiful and horrifying. She'd divested herself of her normal armor and leathers, leaving them back in the inn room, and instead she wore... for the first time in what felt like an eternity, softer clothes. Made for comfort.

She felt strangely naked wearing them, but it was... nice in a way. She held her sandals, straps hooked over her fingers and dangling, and walked barefoot in the sand, feeling trickles of amusement as she looked at the footprints she left behind. It was strangely childish, but... welcome.

It wasn't until she was only a short few paces away that she looked up and realized she'd have to move around a man infront of her, lest she disrupt his fishing - so she began to do so, silently, picking her way behind him with a murmur of 'excuse me'.

Thallassa 2

Thallassa heard her soft footfalls before he saw her, his brows furrowed, he had thought this a secret fishing whole, but there was obviously someone approaching him. Curiously he waited for whoever it was to come around the bend to where he sat in the shade.

He was utterly surprised to see a beautiful Oban woman come around the bend. She had piercing eyes and jewellery that naturally drew the eye to the gold paint on her lips.

His heart stuttered into a racing beat that rivaled that time a snaptrotter had almost managed to eat him. Was he having an attack? This had never happened before. He hoped she wouldn't notice his small crisis, he didn't want to bother her with his drama.

She seemed intent on getting past him. He stood up and tried to get out of the way but to his utter embarrassment he got a little stuck in his own fishing line. It could be worse, he could actually catch a fish right now.

"I am so sorry." He apologized to the lady who's precious time he had wasted by accident.

She hadn't noticed at first - Shal had purposefully avoided looking at the stranger as she picked her way around him. He moved to stand, and immediately Shalvesta felt an unusual tug of guilt, that he felt he had to scurry out of her path.

It would have made her move faster, had he not - gotten tangled up. She paused then, turning to look - and he wasn't what she'd been expecting in the least. From behind, he looked like any other Matori - but up close, she realized he lacked the markings they usually wore. If anything, it drew attention to his bright (and, right now, slightly panicked) gold eyes, and the perfectly round, pretty blue crystals on his chest.

Aaand, now she quickly tugged her eyes up from said chest, and instead stepped closer, expression crumpled in sympathy. "I don't even know how you managed that." She pointed out, perhaps a bit bluntly, hands hovering as if unsure whether to try and help or not. "I can cut you loose, but - do you have more line to replace it?"

Thal held in a gurgle. "I am sure it is a clumsyness curse inherited from my Father. I am not sure how I managed it either, usually I am rather skillful at angling. I suppose because there was someone to witness the folly fate just pulled the string...literally and here I am."

He hoped she wasnt a fisher by trade or he likely would never live this down. Angling was a hobby too but I suppose anything was fair in love, war and fishing line.

He sighed. This had not been the impression he would want to make on someone quite so lovely.

"I do fortunately have back up line and at least I have not lost the lure yet, I do hope that a fish does not nibble. If you could pull the lure from the water first I would be most graceful. This my pride might one day recover from but not landing a fish during being caught like a fish."

Shalvesta looked at the man in surprise. He was tangled up, and ... waxing poetic about family curses? It was so ridiculous she almost felt fond of the stranger. Then, he continued, and the second pun finally won a startled, if soft, laugh from her. "Yes yes, I will fetch it first." She reassured, gripping the loose line. She reeled it in easily enough and, thankfully for him, it was free of fish.

Once that was secured, she pulled a knife from its sheath at her hip and deftly cut it, making sure to leave as much of the untangled line as she could - no sense in wasting it, right?

From there, it was little work to unravel him - though she had to step closer to do so. "So... your father is unlucky, I take it? Has he managed to tangle himself up in line before too?" She asked, with a small smirk. She hoped the stranger would tolerate her teasing, but it was really too hard to resist.

"My Father is usually a graceful and capable man, deadly, powerful and with tons of experience to back him up. Until someone is watching, then he will trip or derp or just end up being a complete goof. Sometimes its happenstance and sometimes I think he is doing it on purpose for the rest of our amusement." She seemed nice and she was super helpful.

"Thank you very much." He said sincerely.

"He probably has gotten caught in fishing line at some point." He rubbed the back of his head. "He has all kinds of stories that get us all laughing." His Dad had been around for a while. "He spent a lot of his youth in Oba before moving to Matori and settling down proper. I think he likes being by the sea but he also misses the rugged beauty of the desert." It felt good to be talking to someone new. That was one of the perks of adventuring.

Even now, as a grown woman, Shalvesta marveled at hearing someone speak fondly of their parents. It was just as puzzling for her to hear of one who didn't mind making a fool of themself, just to make their family laugh. But it was... nice to hear this stranger speak so fondly of his family, even if his manner of speaking was so theatrical and almost poetic.

"Really. I've lived in Oba all my life, but I could hardly describe it as 'beautiful'." Shalvesta shook her head, amused, propping one hand on her hip. "My name is Shalvesta." She introduced, looking at him expectantly.

Thal 5

He paused. "Well that is a pity. Personally I prefer places with more water but I was born in Matori so that shouldn't be too much of a surprise."

"My name is Thallassa." She had a pretty name too. "Its a pleasure to meet you, doubly so because you helped me out of such an unfortunate situation. Can I treat you to some food? I make a mean stew or I could get some from a food stand?"

It was the least he could do. Something told him that she might be lonely. He could be very wrong but she seemed to have a bit of a jaded view of the world.

Of course his youth had been all but lined with flowers...well perhaps not with his very youngest brother, he was a bit of a handful and he was pint sized still.

He retrieved the lure that had ensnared him. "Here," he handed it to her, "Perhaps it will be better luck for you than for me, I have too many as it is." He was getting rather proficient at making them.

This one even had fish pattern and coloring, he had gotten paint all over himself the first few times, his brother Ushi had laughed, so Thal had purposely got some on the pretty boys face. Ushi had chased him so Thal put his own war paint on himself to make the short lived fued official. He lived to be the pain in the butt and none of his siblings could say they were bored.

Thallassa. It was a unique name, for a uniquely happy man. Shalvesta nodded, expecting that to be that, and she was already ready to continue her stroll along the beach when he continued... and invited her to eat.

Not only that, but he passed her the lure he'd been tangled in - a cute little carving, painted like a fish. She'd never fished, herself, and was surprised by it, tilting her head as she inspected the little gift. "That is... kind of you. Thank you. I'd hate to put you out, over such a small thing." She said, having to scrape her mind for long buried memories of manners classes to respond politely.

"Trust me, I'm glad that it was you who found me, I could have been robbed or worse."

Besides food was a universal thank you and maybe he could learn just a little more about her before they parted ways. He hadn't had conversations with many Obans before and he was curious in general.

"Food isn't that expensive, don't worry about it. You are not putting me out in any way."
