Whew, that had been a different sort of annoying day at the pier, though not altogether all that different from what she usually did at the gates. Just paeple and merchants coming and going, checking over their cargo, taking taxes, occasionally getting yelled at... the usual, really. But thanks to last night, she was still in a rather good mood today - she hoped to find a positive response from Attor to her own note waiting for her when she got back.
On her way home, she'd stopped by Breeheart's Cafe for some freshly-made sandwiches to-go - hers was made with fermented and fresh vegetables, dressings, boiled white bird's egg, and a healthy topping of roasted goat and goat's cheese sandwiched between two pieces of their wheat bread, while her daughters was a simpler seasonal item made with fluffy whipped butter, fresh jam, some lighter cheese (akin to brie), and the edges of the crust had been cut off and somehow sealed shut. She'd even gone and splurged a little for one of their fancier desserts for the pair of them to share. She was practically grinning as she opened up her apartment door and let herself in.
"Iolyyyyyte~ Mummy's home with some dinner from that Cafe with all the yummy sammicheeeeeees~!"
It was obvious that had been the only stop she'd made on her way back to her apartment by the slighty-sweaty scent she gave off and the way her hair was lazily redone back in a simple ponytail behind her. Her plan was for the pair of them to hit the bathhouse after dinner and dishes if there was time... even if it wasn't the most appropriate timing for a small child. Unbeknownst to her mother, the small child in question was still playing "Make Believe" with her new friend 'ncle A-door in the main room when Tanz got back. Since she'd had her nap in the early afternoon (that Attor would have not enjoyed near as much due to AA's insistence on hating taking them), her energy levels had remained high. Some was due to NT's intentionally-sugar-packed assortment of snackies to keep her going, but most of it was just her curiosity and excitement at making a new friend.
One that she readily abandoned the moment her mother got home.
With a bright smile on her face, she ran on over while happily yelling back, "SAMMICHES? YAAAAAAAY!"

What... a day these last two had been. None of what had happened after the first night had been in his predictions. And he wasn't sure he was pleased by this. His ears briefly flicked to the sound of an opening door and as soon as the child left him, he sighed, simply remaining sitting on the floor for a few moments of peace and quiet. Even if those moments were only seconds. His wings had remained drooped from Io demanding to play with them, as had his tail been just left where ever she had let it fall last. He was pretty sure his hair was a mess and he wasn't even going to begin to look at his long fetlocks. Instead, he listened as the child seemed ever so fascinated with the gift of 'sammiches', but more so how the familiar voice had clearly defined herself as 'Mummy'. Half of him debated remaining sitting in quiet until she stumbled upon him. The other half of him told him to stand up, though as he pushed his hooves under him he was sure he heard a few crackles and pops that hadn't happened before. Goodness, was this what being a child had been like? He couldn't ever remember having -that- much energy. With a soft sigh, he wiped the back of his neck, rustled his hair into some sense of 'decent' and wandered over towards the sound of Tanz, stopping to lean in the door way. "Ah. Welcome home.... Mummy." he said, though his face held nothing of amusement and actually seemed pretty worn out and over due for any kind of explanation.

At this point, Tanzanyt was wholly unaware of there being any trouble a-brewing in one room over. She gave Iolyte a few pats on the head before starting to take out the pair of sandwiches.
"Did you have lots of fun with your Auntie Purr today?"
She gave a final decisive pat on the head before handing the kid her meal and then taking a bite out of her own. Man, she was hungry. Iolyte excitedly squirmed under her mother's hand before shaking her head 'no.' "Nu-uh we pwayed with 'ncle NT and Pap' A-Door!" She was grinning brightly as she took the sandwich before cocking her head ever so slightly after. "Where his sammich?"
She turned around and very dramatically gasped as he peaked his head out before pointing with both her hands (sandwich held between them) at him.
"DOORS DUN'T MOVE?!?" It took a few good moments of her quietly chewing on her sandwich to process what it was her daughter was saying. Huh, so NT was visiting? But what the Dragnid was this 'Pop-a-door'? Were they playing hide-and-seek or something? She raised a brow as she swallowed her bite and addressed the kid. "Uncle NT can get his own food..." she trailed off at the kid's weird reaction before her eyes followed her daughter's gesture towards her recent lover very clearly still here and looking quite a bit worse-for-wear than she remembered leaving him.
Wait, that wasn't the issue.
The silence hung in the air as she blinked in response to his question.
"Oh, uh... Didn't think you'd still be here..."
. . .
This wasn't something she'd planned on happening - in fact, it was completely contrary to her plans, and that meant she had no idea what to do in this situation. She glanced down at her own meal for a moment, then back to him. "Want half a sandwich?"

Her shock was natural. After all, he too assumed it would have been a one nights chance at letting off steam in a enjoyable way. He certainly had no intentions upon still being here. Yet here he was. And if his stomach hadn't been gurgling so much he may have resisted the half a sandwich out of polite decline. But kids, he found, burnt energy and he needed fuel. Nodding a silent yes to her offer, he simply gazed at her before letting words process and slip out his mouth. "Surprise." he said, glancing back at Io. "I'm not a door, playtime is on pause. Eat up and be a good girl for Mummy, hm?" he said, crossing his arms and one hoof over the other. His tail swayed slightly though his wings still seemed semi drooped but now nestled tightly against his back, almost protectively so.

Iolyte slowly brought her sandwich back and puffed her cheeks out into a melodramatic pout... that she only maintained a few seconds before slowly blowing out the air and turning it into a regular pout. She then decidedly took a big bite out of her sandwich before turning away from Attor in a big 'hmph!' motion and walking over to eat in the living space.
Kids will be kids. Tanz nodded once back before walking over to the kitchen area to get a knife and cut the sandwich in half, then returned to offer the unbitten half to him. "Want a drink? I have coffee and I have alcohol." By alcohol she meant a sort of hard kombucha - she wasn't yet able to keep any liquors stocked in the home. It'd need to become more readily-accessible first.
"I need one."
She returned to the kitchen to make herself a glass of said kombucha (and a glass of whatever for him if he was so inclined), then leaned against the counter as she took a sip. "Okay, so... backstory. The heck happened while I was at work? I thought you had some more trade business to handle today." What a Tanz way to ask, 'why the heck are you still here?'

"Alcohol." he said quickly, not even caring if it wasn't strong. After the day he had, he too needed one. But backstory? He felt like she owed him an explanation, though he supposed it was only fair he too explain why he was still here. "I had intended to leave, I do need to get back to Breeheart, however before I could do so, there was a knock at the door." he said, before taking the offered cup, taking a bite out of the sandwich first then chasing it down with a huge gulp. He allowed it to slide down and settle before taking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly. "When I opened the door, I was rushed by several.... children..." he paused, casting a glance at where the now grumpy Io had wandered off. "... and another male that I assumed is your sisters family.... until he admitted to being responsible for only three of them." he paused again, eyes locking on Tanz, not quite harsh but not exactly gentle yet either. He was still overwhelmed from pure child chaos. "He then hyped them up on sugar and encouraged them to call me Uncle 'Door'...or Pappa 'Door'.." another brief pause. ".....and that I'd be staying for play time. And that's your backstory." He paused again to finish off the sandwich in one swift bite then take another gulp of his drink. "Now..... care to explain your side?"

Daisicle Tanz quietly chewed on her sandwich and occasionally drank from - and refilled - her kombucha as Attor gave her the play-by-play of the day. Rather than talk, her face clearly showed her internal cringing at certain key moments, and as he finished, she set her items on the counter to bring her hands and rub her temples in exasperation. "For ******** sake... That has to have been Purr's doing, though I have no idea how she knew you'd be here. Those three are theirs." She had to admit the 'Door' joke was pretty good though, but this wasn't the time to bring it up, and frankly she didn't want to give her sister any credit right now. "Sorry you ended up at the but of their jokes."
"My side?" she shrugged lightly and reached for her sandwich to take a bite, finishing it before continuing. "I have a kid, kid doesn't have a father. She stayed with my parents while we had our date, and then I thought she was dropped off for daycare while I was working." She paused as she chewed over another bite. "...And that's it I suppose." fea line Attor's face was a mix of emotions watching hers as she explained about her sister, her child, and the lack of a father. For some reason, that confession made him feel.... guilty? Did he have a right to be this frustrated? He felt so, at least at being called a Uncle/Pappa door and having just been blasted by toddler energy. Still... "I'm sorry." he said, though gruffly. "As you can imagine... I've had a day and frustrations are high." he frowned, placing a hand over his face as he tried his best to wipe off the wrinkles and scowl. "Being poked and prodded all day... being called Uncle Door..... that.... man telling Io to call me father because it got his rocks off?" he sighed again, shaking his head once more before taking another deep breath. "I enjoyed my time with you... but I was not expecting to be drowned in children today...." he trailed off, glancing to where Io went once more, his voice lowering to barley a whisper. "Even if she is cute..." Daisicle Tanz didn't seem to be particularly taken aback by his tone or general body language, and she finished off her sandwich with a nod. "Don't worry about it - my sister can be a complete b***h when she wants to, and guess that's rubbed off on her guy." Again, visible grimace. "Only good thing about her is that she likes kids enough to watch mine I guess?" Now this wasn't wholly true, but the twins certainly had a love-hate relationship. "Though she already has 5, so what's 1 more at that point?" Now she was kind of rambling. "Point is, sorry she made ya go through all that. I'll tell em off for you tomorrow - it's one thing for them to pick on me, but messing with you like that's... That's crossing the line."
Ah... given his demeanor, it seemed there probably wouldn't be any follow-up dates after all this, huh? That was a shame... This kid really was gonna follow her until it grew up...
Even so, a bit of a smug grin formed on Tanz's face as she caught his whisper - cat ears and good hearing and all. "Oh for sure, she takes right on after me. Gonna be a looker someday." fea line "His name certainly seemed to fit. Night Terror.... more like all terror." he allowed himself half a chuckle before he had to agree. "Yes, a looker, just like her mom." he said, eyeing Tanz from the side, idly swishing the tiny bit of liquid left in the bottom of his cup. Her sister had five kids huh? Those two must be busy. Finding out Tanz had one though, for some reason that surprised him. Not necessarily in all the wrong ways....though he did have to shove down a tiny bit of jealousy for not having found her first. All this aside, it was already too late to travel now, though not that he was a stranger to traveling at night, however he usually had energy for that. As of right now.... well he was just about running on empty. "Since I'm here, and it seems I'm now a play toy, would me staying one more night be an inconvenience?" he asked, glancing at her honestly through his usual half shut gaze. "Besides, I think I owe your sister and her.... mate.... a proper thank you" he shot, adding particular emphasis on the thank you. Daisicle Tanz's grin transitioned into something decidedly more smirk-like as she jeered on. "I just call him Nighty - bit too cute for him though, huh?" She polished off her drink and set it in the wash bin before stretching her arms. "Nah, go for it. It's the least I can do after all of, well, that." She then glanced into the room where the tot was probably being too quiet for it to be anything good. "I was planning on visiting a bathhouse after dinner if you would like to join us. Not to sound rude, buuuuuuut... you look like you could probably use a good soak."
A half-snort snuck out at his follow-up. "I can leave dropping her off at day care tomorrow to you then - maybe we can find her most obnoxious toy and send her with pain-in-the-a** things. We're fans of Breeheart's cafe, and they always have sweet treats just covered in jam and honey."

fea line "A soak sounds lovely." he admitted, walking over to put his cup next to hers in the bin before stretching his arms and shoulders out one by one. The idea of getting back at her sister sounded fantastic, he had to agree. "I do wonder what toys Io has that would do the trick." he added with a smirk before stepping towards the room where Io had disappeared too. "I can recommend the most stickiest treats as well." he smirked, flicking his tail before leaning in the doorway to see what the toddler was up too. "Up to no good are you, little one?" Daisicle "Oh, I'm sure I have something stowed away somewhere. I can look for it after the bath - you're free to help if you want, or you can just go to bed." Her ear flicked in the direction of the other room as she followed behind. Io had finished her sandwich a while ago, as evidenced by the mess left behind on her face and chest. She was currently picking her nose as she sat there, only to turn as she heard the footsteps enter. A big grin lit up her face as she called out, finger still in nose, "PAP A-DOOR!" She then stood up and ran to give his leg a big ol' sticky hug in a manner not wholly unlike what they were planning to unleash upon Pur and NT in the morning.
Early karma amirite? Tanz rubbed her temple some as she glanced over at Attor and offered a quiet, "We'll fix that later before it's too late..."
