The sky was dark, covered with a blanket of clouds that spoke of rain soon. Megumi was rushing through the forest, trying to find any bit of shelter that she could, but so far she'd had no luck. Every burrow, every bush seemed to be taken up by something or someone else who didn't want her presence. Not that she could blame them. She was a random Katzaie, after all. No one else really knew her except her family and most days she felt like they didn't, either. They had their new kits to pay attention to and also her siblings were still around. She felt like an extra burden and thought it best for everyone to leave and be on her own. Find her own place in the world.

So far, she thought she'd done that well enough. She still hadn't found a place for herself to live, yet, but she'd been managing to gather her own food and keep herself busy just fine. Maybe after the rain, when the ground was still a bit moist, she should dig her own burrow. It'd be way easier than trying to work with dry dirt. Megumi wasn't very practiced in digging and wasn't feeling confident in herself to do it when the ground wasn't wet.

Shaking out her fur, Megumi tried to find some cover under a low-hanging branch. But when she looked up, she could still see the sky through the leaves. That would not do when it started raining. So she left, sprinting across the ground and flapping her wings in her anxiety not to get drowned.

That was when her eyes caught something on the ground, almost hidden by a tuft of tall grass. Moving a bit closer, she saw it was a little star with wings. That was one of her kind, wasn't it? Why was it out here all alone, like she was? What neglectful parents.

Stooping down, Megumi brushed aside the grass to expose the star more. What a pretty purple color it was! Staring at it, she was struck with an idea. Maybe she could be its family! She could take it with her and raise it as her own. No one should be alone in the world, after all.

Gently picking it up in her teeth, the Katzaie quickly continued on her way until she found an empty cave to hid in until the rain stopped, curled around the precious little star now in her keeping.
