It was always boring when no one came to the lake. Kanja figured everyone was busy training or something. Genomes sure had interesting lives, he supposed. The draconic boy sat in the lake shallows, playing with one of the long reeds that grew on the shore. He dipped the tip of the reed into the water and watched the ripples. The water was always so calming.
The tip of the reed broke off, and he tossed it aside. "Maybe a swim? Though it would be more fun with someone else." He flopped back, laying in the water, only his face above the surface. "I wonder where everyone is?"

Chrys was wandering around outside the ship, no real destination in mind. He had basically been shooed outside by his father to 'make friends', whatever he was supposed to do with that. He was just fine being with his brother and parents, he didn't really need others around. Not that he would particularly hate it, he just didn't need it.
His walk took him to the clearing where the lake was shimmering in the distance, and he stared at it for a while. It almost looked like liquid metal. Pretty. He remembered his dad saying a strange kid lived there. Maybe that one would make a fun friend.
He nodded to himself and walked over to the water. If not, he could always look for someone else.

Kanja closed his eyes as he wondered where to find everyone. Amy and Luna were probably in the garden, or maybe the library with Dash? Empyrean was... er... maybe Kanja wasn't so curious about him. Fin and Kite were... oh?
A shadow appeared and he opened his eyes. He couldn't hear with his ear under water, and the sun was so bright he couldn't see anything clearly. "Hello." Kanja slowly sat up and turned to face the stranger. He squinted against the light. He looked kind of like Ghost? No, maybe more like Argent? But small. "Come for swimming lessons?

So the strange boy was there. "Hello." he mirrored, head slightly tipped to the side to eye the other. And what a strange boy he was. His skin was blue, like the lake had looked in the distance - of course he knew that water had no color and that was just a trick of the light - and he had scales. Like a fish. Maybe he was a fish and that was why he lived in the lake?
"Swimming?" Chrys frowned. Crouching down to put his hand into the water and pulling it back, shaking his head. "It's cold. How are you not cold in there?" The water in the growth tank had been warm, as was the one on the ship. Why would anyone want to get into cold water?
"I'm Chrys." He stated, remembering that his father had told him it was rude not to introduce yourself. "Who are you?"

"I'm Kanja." He finally stood up, shaking the water from his hand before offering it to the strange genome. "I guess the water is a little cool. But it's never really bothered me. Maybe because I live here?" He ran his fingers on his other hand through his braids, shaking some water from them.
"I guess maybe not everyone likes swimming." That was a shame. Everyone else had seemed to enjoy it. Even the adults. Or at least Argent did. He encountered the man a few times. "Anything I can do for you, "Chrys?"

"I might like it." he still frowned, then shrugged and took the offered hand after staring at it for a moment. It was wet, but not as cold as the lake. So probably not a fish then.
Chrys sat down, legs crossed, careful not to get his boots wet. it was more comfortable than crouching, but he didn't trust the water yet. "I dunno. I'm just hanging out. Father told me to go make friends. How do you make friends anyway?" The strange boy - Kanja - was older than him, so he probably knew, right?

"Well, if you want to try it, let me know. I love teaching people to swim. I think it's fun." He laughed a little, shaking Chrys's hand gleefully. When Chrys sat down, Kanja smiled at him. "Hm? I guess your father's pretty smart. Friends are a wonderful thing to have." But the question of how to make friends? "How to make friends? You just... do?" He said, mildly confused. "When you meet someone, you talk and get to know them, and then you can be friends. Its always worked for me." Of course, maybe he didn't always enjoy the company of certain friends. The memory of Empyrean trying to 'collect samples' came to mind and Kanja had to force himself not to shudder. But maybe that was a fluke. A one time thing. Yeah. "I'm sure you'll make lots of friends really fast. But I have to ask, I'm really curious. Your father... um... Is he the one-eyed man? Or maybe the shorter man with the purple hair?" He was reasonably sure Aren wasn't his dad... right?

Chrys pondered the reply for a moment, watching Kanja. He seemed nice enough, right? "So, we're friends now? Since we talked?" And he didn't feel like punching the other, so if he didn't dislike him that meant they were friends now, right?
"Huh... my father? yeah." Why would he ask? Oh, everyone else didn't have fathers, right? They were special. And that other boy who was Arens, but he hadn't met him yet. Must be strange, not to have fathers.

"Sure! We can be friends. I like you well enough so far." Kanja was usually quick to like others, pretty much everyone he met was his friend. "I hear sometimes it can take a while to become friends, though. Some people take time to talk and get to know each other. I donno how long though." He shrugged, then sat down in the water again as they continued talking.
"Wait... Your father is... OH! Right. I guess they're both your fathers then. That makes a lot of sense." Reproduction seemed to always need two anyways. "So I guess you're the newest member to the colony. That's great!"

"I suppose? I'm pretty new." Chrys stuck his hand back in the water tentatively, staring at the ripples it made, not immediately pulling it back this time. It wasn't so bad once you got used to it, maybe even nice with the warm air. Huh, funny. "You know them? Oh, right, dad said there was someone living in the lake, so i suppose you would know him. Guess I wanted to see if he was just talking s**t." Apparently he hadn't though. And he had made a friend, so he could technically go back now and hang out with his brother again, right? But he also kinda wanted to stay. Maybe just a little bit.

Yup. He was either related to Argent, or spent too much time around him. Kanja laughed a little. "Yeah, Argent helped me gather food for a party I put together a little while back so everyone could get to know each other. And I met your other dad then too." Wait, had he met Ghost before? Or had he only heard others talk about him? Hm. He couldn't remember now. Oh well!
"It must seem pretty weird that I live in the lake. I guess there wasn't anyone like me back on your home world. Others ask me things like if I can really breath under water, I can, or if I shed my scales, I haven't yet so I'm not sure. It's all normal to me though." He supposed the genomes were the weird ones here, really. Since they came from a different planet. But he liked them all the same. "You're welcome to visit me any time. I tell people that if I'm not near the surface, throw a rock into the water. If I'm there, I'll come up and we can play. But sometimes I go to the ship too, so I'm not always here. But I usually am."

Chrys hummed, finally pulling his hand out of the water. "I might. It's a nice place here." He liked the quiet and the soft grass around the lake. It was much nicer than inside the ship, and there were so many plants he hadn't seen before. They only had a few on the ship, in his fathers room. He would probably bring some to his and Demas too. "So ... is it safe? Swimming?"

Kanja's face brightened when he asked about swimming. "It's reasonably safe once you know how. You know, kind of like training with a weapon. It can be dangerous at first, but when you know how to do it safely, you're reasonably unlikely to get hurt. I'll make sure you're safe, if you want to learn." His smile was gentle and warm.

"You want to teach me?" He didn't seem convinced. By Kanja, probably. That it was safe? Not so much. He couldn't even see what was beneath the surface. While the water was clear, it was also deep enough you couldn't see the bottom. "I don't think I should do anything like that without getting permission first... father said us kids are not allowed to do anything dangerous without someone watching." He frowned. That was no fun though, was it? THEY probably hadn't asked for permission either. His father just worried to much, his dad would probably just do it. "So ... if you say it's fun ....?" The small frown dissipaded into a somewhat mischievous smirk. "How do you do it?"

"I'd love to teach you! I think swimming is more fun with friends. There isn't anything dangerous in the water. I'm the most dangerous thing in the lake. If you're really worried, we would stay in the shallows where you can stand up." He never took anyone out to the deeper waters anyways.
"You know, I think your dads just don't want you doing things alone. I mean, I've taught most of the others how to swim. So... I guess I'm watching? Do I count?"
