The idea had first sparked out of nowhere, or so Ghost had thought. Really, the truth was that it had always been there, hidden behind his sense of duty and obligation for his work, their cause, and how little regard he'd given to his own happyness. Argent had ... changed that, like so many things, he seemed to have a talent of finding those small - and large - things about Ghost that he didn't even know existed himself. Not that he minded. Watching the children ... watching Aren with his children ... if he was true to himself, he too wanted one of his own. And while it had been Argent who had voiced it first, he'd found the idea resonating with a deep rooted wish inside of himself that he could no longer ignore, nor did he want to.
Which was why he found himself in front of mother that day, for entirely selfish reasons. Yes, he wanted a child. Now that he had found someone to share the joy and the burden with, one who he was sure would not back out of the challenge and whatever it entailed. Mother would know his heart, of course, as she knew all of her children. If she found him - them - worthy, she would surely grant their wish.

Argent could see it, plain as day, on Ghost's face when he interacted with the children of the ship. There was a longing, something he was sure Ghost hadn't quite realized either. So one night, Argent told Ghost very plainly that he wanted to have children with him. He expected the surprise, the unsure response, and the deep thought about it. So when Ghost finally agreed that he too wanted children, Argent was simply... thrilled. A family. Those he wanted to cherish and protect, and above all, love. Yeah. He wanted a family.
Visiting Mother's chambers, however, was almost terrifying. He'd never been before, and he knew he should be respectful, but what exactly did they do? He looked at Ghost as they approached, and just...
Seeing the look on Ghost's face told Argent that everything would be ok. If Mother granted their wish, their family would grow. If not... Well, Argent wasn't one to back down easily. He would make a pledge with Ghost a million times if he needed to.

To be honest, even Ghost wasn't exactly sure how to go about this. Of course he had heard stories, but nothing really ... substantial. So maybe it was different for everyone, maybe he just needed to ... speak his heart?
"Mother," he said, looking up at the figure in front of them, the vaguely humanoid shaped mechancial form of a human woman, the entity that housed their ships computer mainframe, the artificial intelligence that secured their survival. She would not respond, he knew, but she would listen. "you know I love all of your children, and I will never stop to care for them as I am now. When we set out, I would not have thought I might ever ask this of you. But I have found the one I wish to have children of my own with." He took a deep breath and grabbed Argents hand. "So we come before you today to share with you our sincerest desire. Please, if you think us worthy, grant us a child."

Seeing Ghost's face looking as lost as he felt made Argent relax. He gave Ghost's hand a squeeze before leaning close. "I love you." He whispered. He was about to address mother himself, but he didn't know what to say. Instead, he shifted his hand from Ghost's grip to wrap it around his shoulders as they waited.

Mother has heard your pledge, and your wish has been answered.
