It's hard to describe a complex person like Stephanie, but if nothing else you should know she's optimistic and idealistic. Of course she's also confident, anticipative and efficient, but those are often overshadowed by tendencies of being impatient as well.
Her optimism though, this is what she's most popular for. There are many times when friends count on this and her caring nature when they're in need of support.
Nobody's perfect of course and Stephanie has a fair share of lesser days too. Her disorderly and disruptive nature aren't exactly fun to deal with, both personally and for others.
Fortunately her idealism helps lighten the blows and moods when needed. However, some of these personality traits apply to her hero persona and what she feels on the inside. As a civilian, she comes across as shy, clumsy and awkward. She tries and fails not to bring attention to herself, although it does help conceal her hero identity.

- Stephanie was born into a typical family in America. The middle child between two siblings with the best parents that she can ever ask for. Life had its ups and downs like any other family. Her parents owned a diner whose specialties were cinnamon rolls and in house sodas. It was not uncommon for her to go to the diner with her brother and sister after school to help out their parents to help themselves to a soda and cinnamon roll, provided that they did a little bit of work at the diner. In the restaurant business, there are some seasons that are better than others. However, the family always found a way to bounce back and live somewhat comfortably enough to be able to send all three children to private schools. Stephanie is truly the middle child when it comes to her studies. She was not the brightest like her brother, nor the most athletic like her sister. Average is the word to describe her, but she definitely did her best. However, where she truly shined was when she expressed herself through art. It started out with recreating her favorite characters from movies and TV shows, but it evolved into her own creations.
Her life would change drastically on one summer trip to her grandparents farmhouse. Every year the family would go to Stephanie’s grandparents farmhouse. Some of her favorite things to do while she was there aside from being with her grandparents was to go horseback riding and knit sweaters. One night, while the family slept, a meteor crashed near the farmhouse. Stephanie was the lightest sleeper of the family, so she woke up first. Even though she knew she heard something, it was not the smartest idea for her to go off on her own, so she woke up her siblings to go investigate with her. Just as they were about to make their way out, their parents had already called the authorities about the noise outside. Just like that, everybody went back to bed while Stephanie’s parents stayed awake ready to talk to the police. However, her curious nature got the best of her, so once her siblings went back to sleep, she snuck out the window and made her way over to the crash site. Her eyes were filled with awe upon seeing the meteor. It didn’t look like a huge rock from space. There was an orange glow that didn’t look natural. One step too close towards the crater and she slipped.
Then she woke up in a quarantine room at the hospital the next day not remembering what happened. The police had found her unconscious by the meteor, but they could not approach her until men in hazmat suits approached her. The poor girl freaked out trying to figure out where she is, not knowing that she was about to activate her newfound powers. However, a voice on the speaker told her to calm down so they could explain what happened to her. She tried to calm down but she wanted to see her parents. The voice allowed her mother to speak and it helped her calm down enough to listen to what they had to say. Stephanie did not come into contact with a meteor. It was a capsule containing an alien artifact. When she was in close contact with it, the capsule opened and the artifact that was inside was infused into her. Until they knew more about the effects of the artifact, she had to remain in quarantine.
What followed was five years of study and training conducted in secret by the U.S. government. She missed her high school years. All the friends she had made were long gone. To put it simply, she was miserable. The only times she found joy was when she drew her art, when her family was allowed to visit her, and when she was taken outside of the facility by her trainer. Her trainer was a superhero named U.S. Avenger. She worked beside him as a sidekick named Liberty Belle, although she was forbidden to tell her family about this. Over the course of a few years, she learned that her powers revolved around the sun. Not only does she go through noticeable physical transformations (like her hair turning gold), she can manipulate the sunlight that she stores within her body. Such power can be destructive, but with help from the U.S. Avenger, she learned how to control her power. At the end of her five years of training and monitoring, she was allowed to go back home. They would help her find work. That day, Liberty Belle was no more, and Stephanie went back home a “normal” person. Of course, life for her was not never going to be the same. Her siblings had moved on with their lives, and she could not stay with her parents forever. With help from friends in the government, she got a job working in the fashion industry as a costume designer. It would only be two years later that she took up hero work again, but not as a sidekick. It was something she felt like she had to do, especially with all her experience in heroism and knowing she has the power to help others . After working on her costume design and putting it all together herself, Maiden America was born.
