SKILLS
■ Healing via fire -- Yang’s skill set is primarily around healing techniques that use fire. This includes diagnostic abilities that use fire to sense chi blockages, cupping therapy, and even forms of pulling heat out of parts of the body.
■ Alternative healing techniques-- in addition to unique abilities to healing via fire, Yang has studied healing from other bending styles, such as metalbending’s acupuncture, waterbending healing (as much as can be understood of it), and even nonbending techniques like chi-blocking. (Knowledge limited, but somewhat capable at applying these techniques)
■ Firebending -- generally proficient in martial firebending techniques and the associated hand-to-hand techniques, Yang has adopted techniques from other disciplines. While generally her flames burn a few shades darker--cooler-- than usual for therapeutic abilities, they are the normal bright red for combat.
■ Divination -- While not a professional by any means, Yang is familiar enough with common aspects of divination and fortune telling to use them to offer wisdom or solace and enjoys practicing so.
■ Redirecting lightning-- Yang has never generated lightning of her own, although she swears she's felt the tingle of lightning just beneath her fingertips. She has, however, demonstrated a consistent ability to redirect the lightning of others in combat, and is unafraid to do so if attacked.

PERSONALITY
Yangqiao has an engrained sense of self-efficacy and discipline: A quick learner and diligent student, she’s willing to work hard, be better, and learn constantly, whether that means training under someone or studying on her own. When Yang does or decides something, she goes all in and commits. Yangqiao also has a dual prudent and reckless nature--While she isn’t afraid of trusting her instincts, she is careful to back up what she says with evidence or critical analysis and hone her instinct with research and logic. When possible, she weighs her options cautiously before deciding. She does however, enjoy the thrill of a fight, is calm under pressure, and is generally unafraid to throw herself in harm’s way or use her firebending for destructive purposes if it gets her work done. She has a deep compassion for people who cross her path, and tries to look for solutions when someone needs her. Finally, Yang has a knack for taking what she has and making it work for her. She doesn’t have resources to waste, be it time, energy, or money, so she prizes efficiency only just behind perfection.

BIO
Yangqiao was born in Republic City, the only daughter of Chengwong and Tsaihong, a nonbending couple who ran a fairly successful noodle shop called The Silver Dragon. Tsaihong, her mother, died when Yang was ten, despite the best efforts of her healers, Yand and her father tried to run the restaurant along, but grief made for poor business and within six months Chengwong had to resort to borrowing money from his estranged parents in the Republic City power industry.

A year after her mother’s death, Yang had an opportunity to attend a good school in Yu Dao. Her father insisted, despite the dearth of funds, as it would allow her to learn the firebending he could not do. Thus, Yang went, and did her best in school, particularly pursuing an interest in healing practices through earth and fire traditions taught in the Yu Dao province. Graduating at 17, she returned to Republic City and found work as a medic in one of the rougher and poorer places in the city. She helped out at the noodle shop whenever possible in the evenings.

At 23, Yang went out for a weekend to compete in a pro-bending tournament. When she returned, it was to a trashed shop and her father dead: collateral damage of the mobs in town. Yang found out then, that in part to pay for her schooling, her father was in massive debt to a power company that had been recently incorporated by Ishirin Power Company. The debt transferred to Raiju Liu Ishirin.

Raiju though, recognized Yangqiao’s interest and ability in healing and firebending, and gave her funding to travel and learn more: Over the next six years, Yang stayed with the Bhanti tribe and then at Zaofu, learning about spirituality in firebending, older practices of firebending, and modern healing techniques across the bending disciplines. Yangqiao has only recently returned to Republic City, where she has taken on a post at a clinic in service to Raiju’s Family. Working under the waterbender clinic master, Yang continues to hone her healing and firebending as she repays her debt to Raiju.

SKILLS
■ Healing via water -- Hyun-Ki himself has spent his entire life in the clinic, learning healing and healing techniques, honing his ability and knowledge. At 18 he is the primary healer at the family clinic and an expert healer.
■ Alternative healing techniques-- Hyunki has a thorough understanding of chi pathways and chakras that guide bending and health, and has studied other bending traditions for help in healing. Theoretically he can block the bending of others in a pinch, but has never applied this; thus far he has only used it to help unblock things. (Knowledgeable, but there are limits to this in practice)
■ Waterbending-- Proficiency with everyday waterbending, including making simple structures of snow or ice and moving around using waterbending. Hyunki has never been trained in martial bending or combat, so any skills in combat come mostly from the availability of water around him and creative uses. (He’s not a combatant.)
■ Erhu player -- Hyun is an excellent erhu player and if running his parents’ clinic didn’t take most of his time, he would aspire to play professionally. For now, he simply uses it to soothe and entertain longer term patients.

WEAKNESSES
■ Attached-- As much as Hyunki complains about having to work at the clinic and not having his own choice in life, he would never do anything to betray his parents’ wishes or jeopardize his sister’s well-being. He is resigned to his role and while the hypocrisy gnaws at him, he can’t risk or let go of what he has.
■ Bragging. This guy is a complete show off.

FEARS
■ Something just...not making sense. Things have never just not made sense, whatever other people say.
■ Being hit or yelled at and disappointing his parents.
■ Losing what he has. Hyun has always known what his life would be and is had enough money to never worry. He can’t and won’t do anything to jeopardize that, no matter how unethical it seems.

PERSONALITY
Things have always come easy to Hyunki Cao, from healing to bending, from making friends to making music. He’s accustomed to just being better than his peers, picking things up more quickly, and is used to everything just...falling into place. Adaptable to new information and keen to learn anything he can, Hyun loves showing off and demonstrating his knowledge, which makes him seem snooty or even insensitive at times. Try as he might to pretend he’s perfectly logical though, Hyun has an obvious sentimental and curious streak that might be his actual strength: he listens to his patients and learns from them. Finally, Hyun is talkative, often seen mumbling in quick short bursts as he thinks out lout to himself. Despite his parents’ pretensions, Hyunki has adopted (if unwittingly) a more laid-back attitude as the best way to ingratiate himself. He also has a particular fascination for the spirituality of the Air Nation and the advent of spirit energy power, but has not been able to act much on it, although he has picked up concepts of spirituality from occasional patients.

BIO
The Cao Family hailed originally from the Earth Kingdom, but the branch that Faian had been part of had long since moved to the Northern Water Tribe. Faian’s grandparents had traveled south after the Hundred Year War to help rebuild the Southern Water Tribe. Faian herself was a young nonbender heiress who fell in love with Iseul, a poor waterbender. Iseul used Faian’s support to learn healing and leave the South Pole to travel. Faian, pregnant with Huiyan then, eloped with him against her family’s wishes. The couple eventually settled in Republic City where they set up a medical clinic.

Hyunki Cao was an apparent waterbending prodigy, which his parents put to use, teaching him everything they could about healing particularly. By the time he was twelve, Hyun was actively treating patients. Once he finished his schooling at 15, Hyunki became the primary healer and quickly proved more proficient than his father ever was. With Hyun running the clinic, Iseul started spending less time actively taking patients and more time on other pursuits, including investing and socializing. They recognized the takeover of the Ishirin Power Company and two years ago arranged a deal with Raiju Liu Ishirin, offering their clinic’s services to her company and mob for protection against other competing interests. Hyun has upheld this agreement, recognizing it as safe, even if he suspects shadier ambitions from his employer.

Seven years younger than her brother, Huian Cao didn’t seem to have the level of natural talent their parents had come to expect. With her parents’ burgeoning political aspirations, Huian and her bending training was often overlooked-- what she knows comes from Huyunki himself teaching her. Now twelve herself, Huian helps take care of the clinic while attending a local school.
