Beloved Werewolf

PostPosted: Sun Jul 04, 2021 6:02 am

Juhvek had been introduced to a fair number of little guys and gals while the healers had been trying to find fair fits for his situation - and while each of them had fair temperaments and seemed eager enough to do their jobs, there had been some, understandable, pickiness about it all. Not from him, as Juhvek had enough on his plate to worry about to even pretend he knew anything about whers, but from the handlers who had trained them wanting to make sure he was getting what he needed from the arrangement. Someone who could help how he needed but also wasn't so big as to be in the way once he got home.

They'd finally settled on a not-so-little blue guy who was taking to the trade-over rather well, as far as Juhvek had been able to tell. Bonding had been the easiest part, learning to do as much living as he could and what assistance he would need from a wher - and which from another living human - was the trickier part.

But it was nice to have someone a little bigger than a firelizard - or two - waiting patiently there at odd hours of the day to help him do more than layabout.

It would be a somewhat different letter delivery than normal. Little Lady was, of course, there, peeping excitedly and relinquishing the letter with ease when she decided that Snoops was far more interesting. But it seemed that this time she'd brought a friend - a little gold who made confused chirping noises as she scuttled about on Little Lady's heels before sinking into the bedding to stare up at Elibrie imploringly. If picked up, she would immediately try to curl into the young woman's chest.

Dear Elibrie,

Sounds like I need to go out and personally shame your family. I don't think that'll be possible, but know that I am shaming them in my head for you.

I'm hoping they'll let me come home soon enough. When my mother visits the healers do their best to tell her what I will need to have ready for me once I get back. I listen a little, but it isn't as though I can do anything about that part. I can only focus on what is in reach and do my best.

Alosha brought me a gift some time back. She may tag along with this letter - I'm not sure how ready she is to go to strange places yet, but if she's amenable I'll send her along. Her name is Cuddle Girl. I've made another friend while I've been here, but I'll save their introduction for another time. I hope you'll like them too.

Little Lady's appearance on her cot was, as always, met with great fanfare - perhaps even more than usual, as it had been some time since the last letter. Elibrie had tried not to be in great suspense about it, but it was hard not to be, especially since she'd shared some amount of feelings, even if it was barely a hint that she was in any way troubled apart from missing her friend. Maybe it had been a mistake, and she should have stuck to safer topics.

So when Little Lady finally appeared, just as she was finishing changing after oiling Kesucianth, she was half relieved to see her and half frantic to see the latest letter...until she spotted a certain cheeping someone staring up at her from the blankets. "...oh." The little gold was immediately scooped up to be cuddled and fussed over, and the bluerider settled on her cot so that she might do so more comfortably. She'd always had a weak spot for firelizards - clearly - and the young ones especially so. Snoops, meanwhile was happy to preen and cuddle with Little Lady - the only one who really eyed their new company was Chomps, but he ultimately just huffed to himself and opted to ignore her.

Elibrie curled up with their new friend and finally read the letter she'd accompanied. It was a return to matter-of-fact Juhvek, with no mentions of miserable or lonely, and introduced the little gold. Accordingly, she fussed over 'Cuddle Girl' a little more, with a cooing voice and plenty of boops and smooches. As she read over the letter again, she bit her lip, already thinking over her reply. She wondered still if she'd said a bit too much last time, that maybe she shouldn't have mentioned her discontent compared to the other weyrlings. She had a dragon, after all - what did she really have to complain about?

She snuggled with Cuddle Girl some more while she wrestled with the feelings, until after awhile she fell asleep (fortunately, the letter had caught her on a restday). She awoke after a candlemark or so, and finally set to replying - still cradling Cuddle Girl with one arm as she wrote.

Dear Juhvek,

It's alright. I think most of them don't really know any better. They used to like riders, when it was just my uncle and they could be proud of him, but my grandparents didn't like it when my aunt got Searched. They just don't think that girls should have dragons except for golds. Honestly, they'd probably rather even the golds picked boys.

I can see how your present got her name! She's precious. She's welcome to come and visit anytime, although she and Little Lady will have to get used to visiting somewhere new soon enough. We should be getting our own weyr in a few sevendays or so. I'll look forward to meeting your mystery friend, too - soon, I hope.

- Elibrie

Cuddle Girl and Little Lady would, eventually, be released to return to Juhvek, and the letter with them.
