It certainly had been a while since Arik had seen his mother. After their run in with another elder of their kind and a mare that seemed interesting to say the least. But he was due to see Eris Silvermane, the only remaining matriarch of his family. Hell, he wasn't sure if any of his siblings were still around either. He hadn't heard a howl from them. Frowning as the trees passed on either side of the brown wolf, his ears laid back as he was in thought. Blue eyes roved the shadows hunting for the equally brown and tan mare that he called mother. Tail flicking as he came to a large stone that jutted out amongst the thickest of the trees he stopped.
Standing there atop the stone a slightly larger wolf, blue eyes staring down at his own before it leaped and landed upon hooves before him. The large mare glanced down at the male as his fur shrunk, legs grew and horse form was taken. A shiver rattled through him as he hated this form, but had to remember who and what he was.
"Where have you been, Arik?" Asked the female as she glanced at him. She wasn't cross with him, the tone was one of worry. She had lost the greater part of her family and she didn't want to lose him too.
"Around, Seeing if anyone else was still around. Haven't heard a thing from my sisters or brother." He frowned looking away for a moment. "Perhaps they too abandoned us like father did. He doesn't deserve the Silvermane name." There was a bitterness towards his father, Arik had never had a great connection to the one that sired him. Nah, he was closest to his mother.
"Don't say that Arik, They didn't abandon us." his mother said, though she knew something hadn't been right when the three left and never returned. Leaving her den bound with just her son for protection. Swiftrunner had always come around to make sure everything was alright. But it was little comfort knowing that the one that she thought she had loved had just up and left. "They might be back... Someday."
