[DUEL] Sand is Sand

Malie stood at the outpost of the Firekin lands with a look of determination on her face, the grin on her maw eager. She'd spent half her short life in the rogue lands training for this exact moment, to win admittance into the lands beyond. Her life back in her home pride would have been too dull to stand, so she'd left it as soon as she'd been able in search of a new home. A rogue had told her about this place and it sounded perfect - a pride that valued strength and battle prowess in every individual? Be still her beating heart.

But since she hadn't been born here, Malie needed to prove herself. So here she stood, waiting for one of the storied lions to accept her challenging roar. Surely someone would be along soon...she'd been told this outpost was manned daily. Maybe they were out hunting? Or perhaps sleeping? No matter. She'd wait as long as she needed to.

Ran had, once upon a time, fought to enter the great lands of the firekin. She had proven her strength to enter the lands as a fellow member - a Soldier - and had sparred against her pride to hone her skills in battle.

She had wins and losses, and the occasional tie, on her shoulders, and now she felt more like a True Member, rather than some random outsider who happened to get lucky. She could hold her own. She felt ready, now, to face those who wished to enter the pride like she once did. It was her right, and prerogative, as a member and she was quite happy to do it.

She was glad to make her way towards the challenging roar, and answered in kind. She was ready, as she faced the newcomer, appraising the white and grey lioness for a moment.

"The first move is yours," she offered graciously.

Malie didn't have to wait long at all. A lioness approached soon after her roar was answered and it took everything within her not to prance in place. Finally, her chance to prove herself! She trembled slightly as her claws extended and retracted in the sand, her teeth clenched together to keep herself from blurting out anything stupid.

"Okay! Thanks! You have really cool eyes!"

Well. So much for that.

Never one to be too embarrassed at her own slip ups, Malie charged in with all the energy and hope she'd carried with her across the rogue lands. She'd been warned that battling on sand was much different than battling on dirt, but she'd been raised on the beaches of the Bahari and knew the shifting stuff well. It didn't deter her as she reached out with a paw to strike, aiming for the lioness' shoulder.
