I have a love/hate relationship with Chinese Democracy. I love it for it's standout sound, there's about four songs on the album that I occasionally listen to without s full-album listen. Only problem I have with this release is it's labeled as Guns N Roses when it's clearly an Axl Rose solo release.
In the mid-1990s, amid creative and personal differences, guitarists Slash and Gilby Clarke, bassist Duff McKagan, and drummer Matt Sorum all either quit or were fired. Only singer Axl Rose and keyboardist Dizzy Reed remained. In 1997, they began work on the album with guitarists Robin Finck and Paul Tobias, bassist Tommy Stinson, drummer Josh Freese, and keyboardist Chris Pitman.
The lineup shifted several times, incorporating guitarists Buckethead, Richard Fortus and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal and drummers Bryan "Brain" Mantia and Frank Ferrer. Guitarists Brian May and Dave Navarro, vocalist Sebastian Bach, and producers including Mike Clink, Youth, Sean Beavan, Eric Caudieux, Roy Thomas Baker and Caram Costanzo worked on the album across 15 studios. Though Geffen planned to release Chinese Democracy in 1999, it was delayed and completely rerecorded in 2000. With costs reportedly exceeding $13 million, it became the most expensive rock album ever produced, and Geffen pulled their funding in 2005. After missing a release date for March 2007, it was finally released in November 2008, dogged by leaks and legal disputes.
Preceded by the title track as a lead single, Chinese Democracy debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, and was certified platinum. However, it did not meet sales expectations in the United States. It received generally favorable reviews, achieved international chart success, and has sold over one million copies in Europe.
To this day, Chinese Democracy is one of the most hated rock albums to date.

Chinese Democracy was a failed project from the start. Axl took too much time on this record and spent buku bucks on it, yet it is the most disappointing Guns N Roses album of all time. Why? It should have been named W.A.R. after William Axl Rose, a solo effort.

Perhaps this would be better in a thread of it's own but why not? Chris Cornell would have been 56 today. In his honor, a previously released cover of "Patience" is to be released.

Yeah, I don't like it too much either. I understand where he went with it, just no.
