She wanted to be good, to do good. The world was fast changing for nouls, and she wanted to be on the forefront of greeting that change and making sure everyone was safe. She couldn't do that without her gift and the Tree's blessing.
Golden sunlight dappled the ground she walked on and she focused, momentarily, on how it danced beneath her. It was a calming sort of hypnosis that allowed her to focus on the beat of her heart and her hooves against the earth. She took a deep breath, counted.
The Grandfather Tree would grant her a quest. It would bless her. Because she was worthy. She had to believe that. She couldn't get caught up in the what ifs. But still her mind nagged what if?
Her journey ended almost abruptly as she finally reached the Grandfather Tree. Smaller trees ended, giving way to the massive, shadowing crown of the glorious white oak. Sunbug's breath left her briefly. It was as beautiful as she had been told. She felt she had to strain her little neck to see all the way to the top, and the branches spanned on for eternity. Large, lobbed leaves danced in the gentle breeze way up there in the open air.
She forgot her fears at once, drowned out by the glory of the sight before her.
