The sun beat down on the arid plains that was known as the barrens, It scorched all that came within its sights, including an imposing smoky black and white splashed buck. His dark eyes scanned the area for trouble, not that he was expecting any as he kicked the ground stirring the dust. Was there really anything out here besides the wastes, bones and things of old? Velasco didn't think so as he turned his head towards the chestnut buck that stood behind him with his eyes closed. It was hard to tell what this one was ever thinking. His face showed very little in emotion.

"You really think that there is water out here?" he asked, tone a bit gruff.

Perhaps dry from the lack of water and provisions that were brought. Really they hadn't brought anything with them, the shaman had his pouch, but he only held ceremonial things. Velasco turned away before the other buck raised his gaze towards his impatient guardian. While Oriole was happy to have the larger buck's company, sometimes it was a little too much for even him. He was a peaceful creature, his soul rooted to Vyleki for ages passed down through his family. Still, he couldn't blame the smoky buck, things did seem bleak and impossible.

"There is water here, well beneath our hooves. It is in the veins of Vyleki." was Oriole's reply to the others question. "It is just a matter of finding the right pressure point to draw from."

Oriole once more closed his eyes as his horn gave a soft dark blue hued glow. Swinging his head from side to side a little, before almost pointing downwards. There was something here, but not too close to the surface, a drop perhaps... Frowning slightly, Oriole didn't release the spell as it seemed to tug him forward.

"Careful Shaman" said Velasco before he really say what was going on. He was in that phase again, his hearing wasn't the most tuned to anything but what Vyleki spoke. Or was it just his magic, Velasco never knew. "Found something? I hope."

While Dousing never brought water to the surface, but it was a good way to at least find it to pull. Only there was another little problem... These instances left the shaman pron and he couldn't use his magic to pull the water even after he found it. This caused him to groan, he was hot and thirsty and all the shaman could think of was douse. Lovely.

"Patience is a virtue that you have yet to achieve, Velasco." Oriole said as he stood but a few yards away from where he had started. Seems that was where the magic ended. "Like I said, there is water everywhere, you just have to find the right pressure point." He grinned before stepping on the ground next to where he stood.

As he pressed on the ground, water started to seep through and pool at the surface. A small spring laid just inches beneath the surface. It ran cold and clean until it was pulled to the surface, its path diverted for the moment. Velasco watched as the water turned to a muddy pool before coming clean at the surface of the small patch. It seemed that the shaman had been right for once. Looking away, ears flicking backwards, Velasco stepped closer, looking at Oriole from the corner of his eye.

"Perhaps it is something to learn, but you should be more vocal about what you are doing." Velasco said shaking his head to toss his soaked mane a little. To this he lowered his head to get a much needed drink from the muddy patch before it vanished on him.

"If I were to spill all my secrets, who would listen to me afterwards?" Oriole said with a bit of a sheepish grin, almost full of himself at the thought. "You are still young, there is always much to learn."

This brought a chuckle from Velasco who nearly choked on the water. Oriole took his turn at the patch before the sun could take it away. Thirst quenched, it seemed that both were in sort of better spirits. Though Velasco still held his stern and imposing stance. He couldn't let up now, one wrong step and the shaman would surprise him... Again...

"Alright, you have had your fun. Shall we move on? Or were you going to continue your communion here? I would rather not be in the scorching sun too much longer." Velasco looked up at the skies, not directly towards the sun.

"Alright. Alright. Lets keep moving," Oriole's tone was a sober one as he started walking again. This journey through the barrens was going to be a long and very hot one...
