This was the first time in a long time that Desert Storm was leaving the pack without his lighter twin in tow. He didn't discount his brother as reliable or able to help he just wanted to see how he might do without the healer following him. Maybe it was his brother's herbs that was making tracking harder. Those herbs were sometimes pretty powerful, he knew because he had to leave the den more than once to get away from said smells. This, he guessed, was one of those times that he needed to get out.
Though on his way out he had scented another was headed out too. Were they also going to go looking for the herds?[119]

 She’d only recently joined the pack, having spent the last half of winter with them. She chafed being under another’s authority and being with strangers. Being able to get outside the pack territory was like taking a deep breath after resurfacing from under water. She moved with quiet purpose through the thick woods, her nose on the hunt for the glorious scent of prey. Her ears flicked towards any sound, taking in her surroundings. One sound in particular caught her attention, it came from behind her which meant it was probably a fellow pack member. She lowered her head and turned, teeth bared. Being a new member of an established pack like this, RedThunder still had to prove herself and she was all for it. WC: 125

It was another pack member. Unfortunate since he wanted to actually fight off a rogue. Though they should be trying to get more members Storm did not want more mouths to feed when winter had been so tough for them. He didn't really recognize the berserker, even though with how little the pack was he should know everyone at least by now. Guess he spent way too much time with his lighter twin. "Anything?" He asked the other, his words sharp and to the point. No introductions either, oh Storm. Maybe he should have been nicer to the female, especially when she was larger than he was. He could take her.[111]

Her piercing blue eyes slitted at the smaller male that approached her. What he said was a single sharp and too the point word. RedThunder could appreciate that as she didn’t care for small talk or flowery language. However, asking her if she had caught a whiff or spotted something seemed rather lazy on his part. Did he just walk all the way out here without even trying to sniff out prey? She almost felt like he was sizing her up but maybe that was because neither of them knew each other. Red kept to herself within the pack, ever since the twins deserted her, she didn’t trust anyone else to get close emotionally. She only joined the pack because they had like minded thinking and it was easier to survive with multiple wolves than just one. Her mind returned to the male before her, she simply bared her massive canines at him, turned and returned to tracking. If he joined her, so be it. WC: 165/290

Storm had guessed from her lack of response that she had also tracked nothing as of yet and that was fine. It seemed his luck this run was just as bad as before and the dark male was getting more annoyed at this hunt already. Though he had already had a little bit under his belt since he had spotted that lone herd member a few moons ago. When she had bared her fangs at him, he had done the same in response, his hackles raising even for a moment, then she had turned and returned to what she had been doing. Strange but it didn't throw him off too much. He kept his distance however as he moved up beside her. Not too close but at least they were parallel to one another. That and he could keep one eye on her warily.[144]

Red barely acknowledged the smaller wolf’s use of his hackles. She had an inkling that he merely did that because he was smaller than her. So the gesture was more like water on a duck’s feathers to her, rolled right off. She moved at a pretty easy going pace, it almost seemed like she really wasn’t trying but she just wasn’t in much of a hurry. Her nose was doing it’s job of taking in the scents. She mostly only smelled the loamy earth beneath her paws and the piney scent of evergreens. Anything else was old and diluted from the melt of winter. Prey must be pretty far out or wary of this part of the woods. She occasionally caught sight of a bird high up in the branches, but that wouldn’t feed her or this pack. Her eyes returned to the world before her, catching the sight of the male out of the corner of her sight line. Red was use to having to go hungry for long stretches. As a pup, her and the twins tended to hunt for already dead prey or steal from other predators. As they grew up, they worked on trying to hunt live or small prey and worked their way up. It wasn’t easy without an experienced adult. Her blue gaze slid over towards the patchy male, he wasn’t having any luck like her… if he was even trying. She couldn’t tell at the moment.WC: 243/533

Desert Storm sniffed the air trying to catch a bead on anything that could be around this way and anything that was around was diluted and too old to be of any use. It was really unfortunate that neither of these pack wolves had found a single thing that could help alleviate the pack's hunger. Maybe if they bought tons and tons of birds back with them they could have some semblance of food but they would have to hunt so many of them that it wasn't feasible. The male looked at his silent hunting companion who he had imposed himself upon, she wasn't too bad to look at the longer he gave short glances at. Though he had noted that she had no scars yet, similar to his lighter twin. Not that he would comment on it, everyone would earn their scars one way or another. What was it that his brother said, he should look for a female? Well here was one. Not that he was thinking of settling down with this one but they could make very strong pups for the pack. That was an eventuality sort of idea but not a necessity sort of thought.[199]

Frustration was starting to settle in. Normally she didn’t let stuff like this get to her, however, she was without the twins and in a strange place among those she didn’t know. Her skin prickled under her thick red pelt but only along her side facing the male wolf. Why was he constantly looking at her? Between not finding anything and the prickling from being eyed, she finally turned her piercing azure gaze upon him. She had no issues staring another wolf straight in the eye, unflinchingly. After a moment, she pulled her gaze away and looked around. This area was proving fruitless and time consuming. She glanced back at the male for a moment.
“Nothing here.”
Red finally spoke to him but it was simple and to the point. Her gazed turned back towards a certain spot and she took off at a trot this time, covering more ground in hopes of finding something. She’d keep going til she did, distance didn’t deter her and she would keep searching. While finding something for the pack is the point, she had to eat as well and being big meant she needed more to stay in good condition.WC: 197/730

"Nor here." He responded. Storm could tell that she wanted to break off and go look in another direction. He could also tell that she was getting just as frustrated as him with this fruitless search. No tracks and no scents. "Let's split and meet back up. Howl if you find anything." Even if it would spook a herd or a lone herd animal, at least it would be something. Anything at this point was better than nothing. Though he didn't stray too far from the female, so at least they would be close if either of them found any semblance of prey.[103]

There was no prey, no sign of prey, not a wiff of prey. Red was starting to rethink her reasonings for joining a pack and not just any pack but THIS pack. It was seeming like they were not located in an ideal place for hunting without having to really travel far. No wonder the pack had shrunk so much, how could anyone live here like this. This was scraping by for just food. She didn’t mind the hostile atmosphere, she liked working on her fighting skills. However, she also liked to eat and actually find food. She was too big of a wolf to go hungry for long.
The male had run off another direction and she hadn’t heard from him in a while. It was clear neither of them were having luck. WC: 134 / 864

Annoyed would have been the understatement of the century for this particular male as he came back yet again with nothing. Managing to sniff his way back to her, the dark male padded near but kept a reasonable distance. "I guess we head back to the pack. Someone may have ofund something." He stated, head hanging low. Though he really wanted to continue searching, this just wasn't working out it seemed and both of them were getting rather frustrated. He would like to invite this strong female out for something else though, maybe another hunt at another time or anything else.[101]

Soft foot steps that moved at a trot caught Red’s attention. Her ears flicked back, catching the sounds location. The male had returned, guess he had no luck the direction he’d gone. Well there wasn’t anything out this way either. She gave a light nod to him and turned around, picking up a trot to return back to the pack. WC: 60 / 924
