The Setting

The Metamorphosis Academy is set in a sort of post apocalyptic world, where creatures of all types used to roam the lands. Though these days most of them are extinct or almost extinct. The Academy itself is located about a half hour's walk outside of the nearest human city. The property that the Academy sits on is large enough to maintain its own small housing community, a lake, a large hedge maze, the actual school building and a dormitory building. The town nearby is not that accepting of the existence of Metas, although there are some that try to understand them but not all humans are friendly towards Metas, especially those that have more menacing appearances, like demons. Technologically, its similar to how we have things, however the land is so polluted that medicine has trouble keeping up with the diseases and ailments that run rampant.

These days, the academy looks like it could use some serious upkeep as it had been abandoned for many years. The hedges are overgrown and the paths are almost completely gone. You can definitely tell no one has been here in a very long time. However, the inside is as pristine as the day it was closed down. It was as though someone had been taking very good care of the interior after all these years. Down to the classrooms and empty dormitory. As though waiting for people to just pool in and fill the school to the brim, it beckons for visitors. Yet, no one has ever seen anyone come or go in almost 20 years. Must be a ghost or something.

Why The Academy Closed
About 20 years ago, the tensions between humans and Metas began to escalate as the humans, running out of non-humans to fight, turned their blame on Metamorphosis Academy. Accusations that the Metas were a danger to others, essentially blaming Malice attacks on the Metas themselves, they called to arms and rallied against them, banning them from the human cities. Without the aid of the scientists who created them to prove the existence of Malices as separate entities from Metas, the Elders of the academy did the best they could to keep a large distance between Metas and Humans.

One day, the Humans came at the academy in full force. Everything was happening so quickly, the Elders had barely any time to even assess the situation. It had come to their attention that Rasiel had been seen around the nearby human city and the Humans had begun to blame him for the recent disappearances of children in that city. Later, it would be discovered those children had been murdered, though it was never sure who had done it, and Rasiel never denied his involvement in the accusations against him. The only assumption that could be made that it was definitely possible that he had been guilty of the crimes.

The Elders did their best to keep the humans at bay peacefully, but there was so many of them. Alice came forth and took the blame for the incidents, to the surprise of everyone. She quickly flew off toward the human city to draw them away from the academy. The Elders took the opportunity to evacuate the academy into the nearby woods. After making sure everyone was safe, they accompanied Rasiel to the human city to try to calm them down. However, when they arrived, they were too late. Alice had not escaped the grasp of the bloodthirsty humans. It was at that moment, they realized the humans would never accept the academy as it was. Metamorphosis Academy had to be shutdown. To protect the ones they loved.

Until Humankind could learn to accept them again.

Sanctuary Reborn

Over the past 20 years, humans had finally begun to accept the existence of Metas once again. Placing the sole blame of murders that only seemed to continue throughout the years on Rasiel the Killer, alone. Scientists, aided by Mirabelle, were able to determine what Manes and Malices were and proved that the rest of the Metas were of no threat to the humans more so than they were to themselves. A researcher by the name of Rhun was able to help the scientists understand Metas so that the humans would not be afraid. They studied two Metas known as Melody and Leukos. They were presented as one with a Mane and the other with no Mane or Malice. Though, that truth may have been a little stretched with Mirabelle's help. Rhun was finally given the approval to reopen Metamorphosis Academy under careful supervision.

Rhun purchased the Academy grounds in hopes of turning it into more than a school, but a sanctuary for Metas who were still out there, the ones who couldn't integrate into society. Or even for the ones who were tired of hiding. Here, he could create the children of the races and make sure they didn't befall the same fate as other Metas who did not make it. Accompanied by the two Meta children, he opened the doors of the abandoned school.

Though, to his surprise, the interior of the school was pristine and well-kept. After some investigating, he was met face-to-face with a ghost. No, not a ghost. A girl. A meta who'd long been forgotten. Delilah had remained behind in the academy for two decades, alone, tending to the school. Rhun explained the situation to Delilah. It took her a moment to understand, but as her mind absorbed the information, a smile slowly grew across her face. Rhun knew that this time would be different. He would make sure that he would protect the Metas. At all costs.

Rebellion and Parley

Outside of Sanctuary and the city of Belosh, the world still viewed metas with distrust and opportunity. Haven research centers under various guises continued their attempt to learn everything they could about the newly growing race and its dangers by any mean possible. If a human or mythical race was accidentally capture ...well... there was room for them too.

Renegades, a group focused on having metas acknowledged and integrated within the laws of the rest of the world, fought Haven and many city state governments who attempted to use metas as weapons or tools. This brought about the creation of law enforcement agencies, one of these being a Norcrest military unit called SIU.

SIU and others attempted to fight and control rouge metas like Renegades but due to SIU's commander's sense of morality they relied on metas and mythical races who willingly joined them. After many fights and millions in damages, with the Renegades no closer to being eradicated the program was scrapped and sold in pieces.

During this time a failed assassination of a little meta girl took place in the human capital of Criel, causing the rise of a new meta organization called the Meta Mafia. They took on a harsher approach than the others and took over a section of the city causing the Criel army to be brought out.

Battle continued for some weeks, back and forth fighting before humans became desperate and turned to Haven for help. Haven and the human capital broke the treaty they had with the mythical races and used weapons that have not been seen since the end of the Great War. This cause a small portion of the mythical races to take up arms and march into Criel causing greater mayhem to what was already happening.

Destruction and Treaty

In a misguided sense of responsibility the leader of the meta mafia instructed an offshoot of the Renegades, who sided with him, to set up explosives throughout the city. Once he was ready and his own people gone from the city, they blew up what was left without any warning.

While a percentage of the population had been able to leave the city before the destruction, most had been hemmed in by the fighting. Humans, mythical races and meta, not part of meta mafia, died in a burst of heat and flame or crushed under collapsing buildings. The city of Criel was no more.

Instead of being cowed as the meta mafia expected , the other human cities and even the formerly sympathetic mythical race cities turned on metas. Metas were hunted and killed though none could be touched within the territories of Sanctuary and Belosh.

A majority of the metas were furious with the actions of the meta mafia believing that it went to far and called for the desist of fighting. While a good percentage of the rest supported the meta mafia's actions

The hunting of metas lasted for two weeks before a politician of the city of Morrad convinced the a handful of city states to unite and offer a deal to the person who supposedly listened to the will of metas, the leader of the Renegades.

The leader of the renegades accepted the treaty even if it was horribly lopsided, being forced to be the person solely responsible for any rouge metas that caused trouble within these cities. If he were to fall the treaty would be in jeopardy as well.

The governments were surprised but content with his acceptance, as it was mostly a way to stall for time to gather resources. They may act as if they allowed the leader of the meta mafia off the hook but they have it set in their sight to eradicate the entire organization with no trial.

New Starts

As expected, the treaty started to degrade, slowly but surely. The politician of the city of Morrad who brokered the treaty between a handful of city states and Renegades has been missing for months, assumed dead. While the second in command of the Renegades managed to wrest control of the criminal city of SS Banor and become its new Captain. This caused an uproar and panic in the other human and mythic race cities as they prepare for another battle this time against meta. Yet at the same time... the treaty still held.

The Renegade leader in an unprecedented maneuver invited the former leader of SIU to co-lead the Renegades with him now they have similar goals. This cause an uproar within the Renegade ranks as those who felt that working with a human was a betrayal of their values.

Many joined with the Murder Squad , formerly an offshot of the Renegades who decided to help the Meta Mafia, now called Blast Corps lead by Blaise Eternal. They feel that the former Renegades were corrupted and are nothing more than tools for the humans. So Blast corps continue to fight Haven, the governments and those allied with them in a forceful show of might to gain what they deserve.

While in Sanctuary Rhun has returned after a plot to discredit him goes awry. Nova is able to bring him back save in sound, during this time the Sanctuary has grown as metas have rushed after the destruction of Criel to find a safe place to be. So much so that the school for younger meta children has reopened as families try to figure out what to do next or if they should move to Belosh.
