[DUEL] Strange Lion

This duel wasn't one Citrabanu was sure he wanted to accept. The dark lion staring him down across the sands was the son of a known oddball and it seemed to have passed on to her son. Kovako didn't often blink and had that sort of freaky air about him that his mother carried and Citrabanu shivered as that blue gaze stared him down. Right. He didn't turn the chance to better himself down, though, and he started to circle on the sands to begin the duel.

Changing his pace suddenly, Citrabanu lunged forward to try to land a hit on Kovako's rump. His paw passed through nothing but air, almost catching his tail but missing that as well. He growled quietly at himself as he landed in the sand, head lowered and legs ready to pounce again.

Kovako stood still as a stone as Citrabanu circled slowly, blue eyes tracking the red lion's movement. He had seen the other male challenging all sorts of lions to a duel and wanted to get in on the 'fun'. The request to duel had been met with hesitation but finally Citrabanu had agreed. Kovako would give it his all to show this wasn't a waste of time...and to test his skills against a soldier.

The lunge caused him to move quickly away, avoiding the attack. He turned around again, blue eyes still steady and unblinking. He didn't circle or move, once again standing still as a stone as he waited for Citrabanu to do something again.

Citrabanu turned as Kovako avoided the attack, ready for a return hit, but none came. Instead the fireless lion turned and stared at him again. O...kay. If that's how he wanted to do it...

Citrabanu tried again, this time charging head-on. He reached out with his paw as he dodged at the last moment, landing a pretty hard strike to Kovako's shoulder. He spun quickly to try to counter an attack, unsure of Kovako's fighting style. The other male was unpredictable in the worst way and Citrabanu didn't want to take any chances.

Kovako didn't move as Citrabanu charged forward, unsure of what sort of attack this was. The sudden dodge made the dark male flinch a bit but he didn't move in time. The hit to his shoulder made him snarl and he whipped around quickly, bright blue eyes narrowed dangerously.

But again, Kovako didn't move. He held his ground, spinning slowly to keep Citrabanu in front of him, not letting him slip behind. His nose was scrunched with the snarl still on his muzzle, a low growl in his throat. He hadn't expected the hit to be so powerful and now he was on guard.

Citrabanu was still as he stared back at Kovako, trying to figure out this strange male. He hadn't tried to return a hit yet, he was just standing there and taking the blows. It was unnerving to say the least, but Citrabanu wasn't going to be the one to bow out because he was creeped out.

He began his slow circle again, but this time Kovako turned with him. Unnerved a bit, Citrabanu darted forward quickly to swipe at Kovako's feet. He missed, though, as the other lion finally made a defensive maneuver and stepped back.

Kovako wasn't going to just sit there and let Citrabanu beat up on him. He was a hunter, not prey. The attack that came this time was dodged easily as Kovako bounced away from the swipe, blue eyes locked on the bright red male's golden face.

Snarling, Kovako bounded forward to try to land a hit of his own on Citrabanu. It was such an obvious charge that the red male managed to avoid the attack, black paws swiping through air.

Okay, maybe Kovako was taking this duel a little personally. The snarl on his face certainly wasn't one of challenge or friendly battle, it was one of distaste and revenge. Citrabanu was thankful the attack that came next was obvious to see. He dodged the blow but didn't back up like Kovako had done, instead staying close to try to land another hit.

He did managed to land a smack to Kovako's shoulder, but the other lion's momentum carried him forward and beyond Citrabanu's true reach. At least he'd landed a hit, soft though it was. He turned, heart racing as he noticed Kovako's claws were out as he dug into the sand to turn.

Kovako snarled again as he felt Citrabanu's paw brush his side. It wasn't a full hit like the first one had been but now he was more enraged at his own inability to dodge an attack. What was this? Had he been hunting for so long his fighting skills had diminished?

Claws out, Kovako turned hard in the sand, kicking up a bunch of it with his haste to stop and return to the battle. He launched himself towards Citrabanu with claws out and maw open, sharp teeth flashing against his dark pelt. He landed a solid hit against Citrabanu's shoulder as he came crashing into the other lion, the move reckless but successful.

Oh boy. Maybe agreeing to this duel had been a bad idea. Kovako came at Citrabanu like a lion possessed, teeth and claws flashing. Citrabanu knew that trying to dodge this attack would be foolish, so he braced himself for the impact with the hope that he'd be able to land an equally bone-aching hit on the dark male. He absorbed the blow but it hurt and he let out a little roar of pain.

He tried to land a hit but his leg ached from the blow and when he tried to raise it he ended up toppling to the ground. Citrabanu tried to rise but by then Kovako had already positioned himself over the other male.

Kovako didn't give give Citrabanu an inch. He positioned himself over the other male once he went down, pressing a paw against his chest to keep him in place. It was clear who the victor was.

When it became clear Kovako was content to lord over Citrabanu and not try to strike him again, the red lion shifted to roll away. Kovako let him go, his earlier rage settled now that it was clear he had won.

"Well fought," Citrabanu said out of habit, though he wasn't sure Kovako had fought very well at all. He thought the victory had gone to the fireless lion because of his own shortcomings. Kovako didn't react to the praise, blue eyes once again simply staring at Citrabanu. The soldier bared his teeth in a frustrated snarl and turned to leave the dueling sands, limping a bit where that last hit had left its mark on his shoulder.

Kovako watched the other lion go, his posture the same as it had been before the duel. It was nice to be proven that his fighting skills were still acceptable, though this showed him he did need to work on it a bit more. Satisfied for the time being, the dark male prowled off to find something else to do.
