Description
___A Kanaima is a spirit of vengeance. While the body resembles more of a lizard-human hybrid, the movements are more feline like. Thus why some cultures called it a were-panther. It can be summoned by humans during times of great emotional upheaval. The spirit of the Kanaima then inhabits the body of someone going through a physical transition - usually between life and death. Once inhabited the body, filled with the spirit of vengeance, seeks out the master that summoned it in order to serve the master's goals.
___One origin of this spirit can be traced back to the area around Brasil - specifically the tribal areas of the Arawak and the Caribs. During one of the raids where the warriors of the Carib people were tearing apart an Arawak village, a young "shaman" begged and prayed for the powers to defend his loved ones. As he lay dying, one of their gods came to him and asked him what he was willing to trade to justice. When the young man answered anything and everything, the God divided himself up amongst those dying on the battle field. The bodies rose and took vengeance upon the Carib warriors that had come to raid their village but in the processes all of the woman and children were also killed. Once the revenge was completed and the transformed men lay in horror around their mothers, wives, and daughters...they took their own lives for the crimes they committed. Each of the fallen warriors became Kanaima spirits; vengeful and sorrowful.
___From that point on the Kanaima spirits were attracted all over the globe to points of great power and tragedy, looking for people to summon them and bodies they can inhabit in such cases. Each time they find such a circumstance, they serve the one who called them. And each time it always ends in tragedy for those who summoned and those who are possessed by the Kanaima.
Status
___Uncommon - Kanaima spirits were forged long ago between a fallen deity and humans that suffered great injustice. These spirits can be unknowingly summoned at points of spiritual power by a person who has suffered through a great injustice. However, as all instances end in tragedy the knowledge of this is only retained by smaller subsections of the world.
