Deep within the Slumbering Weald, the pokemon are indeed as strong as the rumors say. Perhaps it is because they are protecting this space, the clearing in the heart of the Slumbering Weald where it is said that the heroes of Galar were laid to rest. Here, the thick fog finally parts along with the dense forest to reveal an old stone monument surrounded by a beautiful clear spring. It is peaceful here, a reward for braving the dangers of the forest beyond.

✧✧【 Eveline hadn’t exactly meant to sleep almost the whole way to Galar, but the Altaria’s thick, cloud-like fluff was extremely comfortable and she had been so exhausted from their multi-regional scavenger hunt that she couldn’t help but slip into a deep slumber. What did end up jolting her awake, however, was not the cool winds whipping past them as they soared high above the farmlands leading into Galar but an odd vibrating sensation against her thigh. Rapidly wiping sleep from her eyes as she sat herself up on the cloud bird’s back, Eveline quickly reached into her coat pocket where the vibrating was coming from, blearily recognizing it as the same one she’d put that odd broken sword in. Managing to grasp the worn handle as it continued to buzz slightly yet fervently, she pulled it out to see the odd, foreign runes carved into the steel half-blade were now glowing with a faint blue aura.

Strange… She had a feeling there was a lot more to the otherwise plain looking thing that didn't seem to really serve much of a practical purpose, yet it had never done anything out of the ordinary up until now. Immediately her thoughts jumped to the conclusion that it might be reacting to something close by, wherever ‘here’ was right now. ”Hold, Jaffa!” she called out so he could hear her above the wind, wrapping an arm loosely around the Altaria’s neck and pulling it backwards towards her to indicate for him to stop and prevent her from falling just in case. Jaffa started at the sudden shout, but quickly complied as his wings moved quickly to stop himself in midair, jerking his passenger a little from the abrupt braking but thankfully not sending her flying off as she’d already secured her hold on him. Pumping his wings in a steady rhythm to keep them aloft as they hovered in place in midair, Jaffa gave a curious warble as he craned his neck to peer back at Eveline, wondering why they had to stop so suddenly.

It was twilight outside, and while the sun had already set below the horizon the bright red and orange still lingering in the hazy deep purple skies was enough to be able to see where they were as the redhead looked down. She recognized the rolling expanses of farmland they’d seen from the train on the way to Wedgehurst, as well the scattered small cottages of Postwick dotting the landscape below. ”Just… give me a second,” she said, giving the Altaria a reassuring pat before carefully holding out the broken sword as it continued to shudder and glow in her grasp. In fact, she could’ve sworn the bluish aura had grown slightly stronger where they were now. Like the needle of a compass she carefully moved the sword around like a dowsing rod, to see if she could try to pinpoint the location of whatever it was that was triggering it that way. As she carefully swept it around in each direction and observed it carefully for any changes, the sword’s reaction remained more or less the same regardless of where it was pointing. However, as she turned to aim it towards the forest in the near distance the artifact suddenly seemed to go absolutely buck wild as the blue glow and the buzzing intensified significantly, to such a degree that she quickly moved to grasp it with both hands to keep it from immediately dropping it.

”There, Jaffa,” she directed, holding tightly onto the broken sword with both hands and grasping onto the Altaria tighter with her legs to keep herself from falling off. The bird chirruped reluctantly, recognizing the forest in particular as the Slumbering Weald that the locals spout warnings aplenty about, but regardless he moved to perform a banking maneuver and set them on course towards it. He wasn’t sure what it was she could possibly want that was in that creepy place, unless they’d somehow missed one of those stars? Or did it have something to do with that weird sword they’d found...?

✧✧【 Well… out of all the places she had expected to end up visiting again, the Slumbering Weald was certainly among the last on her list as Jaffa descended towards the mysterious woodlands. The thick mist that constantly pervaded the area swallowed them up as they touched down past the canopy, landing them in front of a familiar sight from the last time they’d been here. The path ahead, which she assumed lead deeper into the thicket, was where the fog was especially concentrated that it formed an impenetrable barrier. Anyone foolhardy enough to step any further would surely end up losing their way, or at best just being turned around to return to where they’d come. Her mind immediately flashed towards that… ‘thing’ she thought she’d seen moving around within the curtains of mist for a brief moment, and the eerie howls that had seemed to come from everywhere and yet nowhere all at once…

It probably wasn’t the best idea to go any further than this, but… this seemed to be the right way they’d need to go as the sword continued to glow and vibrate wildly, almost as if it was compelling her to go in that exact direction. ”Stay close, Jaffa,” she spoke up, glancing over to the Altaria who was already doing just that, glancing about nervously at the fog-drenched woods all around, ”We may need to make an emergency exit if we lose our way.” The cloud bird tittered anxiously as he eyed the dense misty wall before them, every nerve and instinct in him was screaming that this was a terrible idea and they needed to leave right the hell now. Still it took everything in him to keep himself there by Eveline's side, but as a precaution he pressed a bit closer to the redhead just to make sure they wouldn’t lose each other in there.

Taking a deep breath, Eveline stepped towards the fog wall, glowing half-sword in hand as she prepared to push right on in and hope for the best that the thing would guide her to whatever it was that lay deeper in. However, as she did so, the mist seemed to suddenly ripple and roil before slowly starting to part before her, revealing a trail overgrown with thick grass and forest weeds behind the impassable looking barrier that was clearly much less traveled leading deeper within.
”Thig, neach-giùlain claidheimh, faodaidh tu a-steach…” a guttural, deep voice rumbled as she felt a powerful, primordial presence reach out and brush against her thoughts for a brief moment. Though unlike with Lam’s psychic telepathy, she didn’t so much hear it in her mind as she felt it reverberate within her very bones, leaving her feeling rattled in its wake… While Eveline did pride herself on having fairly decent knowledge and a vast library of foreign words and languages that she picked up through her travels and her music, this was one that was utterly unrecognizable and incomprehensible to her. But in spite of having no idea of what the mysterious, disembodied voice had said to her, she felt oddly compelled to follow it as she found herself on the move once more, treading along the wildly grown path before her towards the deeper reaches of the eerie woodlands. 】✧✧

✧✧【 Oddly enough the mist didn’t seem to be so much lifting out of the way for them as it was shifting and moving around them. As it gradually opened up more and more of the way before them it rolled back in behind them, blocking off their sight of the way back as the trees themselves couldn’t even be seen anymore. Even so Eveline kept going further and further in, her legs seeming to move almost of their own accord. She glanced back every so often to make sure her Altaria companion was still there, the cloud bird staying close behind her as he warbled nervously. The trills and screeching calls of wild Pokemon sounded from nearby within the fog, yet nothing tried to jump out at them as they kept pushing onwards. Supposedly a lot of strong Pokemon lurked within these deep thickets, yet another reason why the locals so fervently pushed their warnings about wandering too far into the Slumbering Weald. But… it seemed like they were keeping their distance, for whatever reason.

Bit by bit as they tread deeper and deeper in, the damp forest floor giving way to what looked like a worn stone bridge overgrown with moss and creeping vines, the fog up ahead seemed to gradually grow thinner and thinner before finally breaking completely. Streaks of flaming red and orange light from the fading sun poured in through the treetops as Eveline blinked at the sight before them, how it seemed almost like they’d passed through a portal of some kind into another world. At the end of the trail where the dirt and grass tapered off stood a stone monument with what looked like some kind of shrine or altar beneath it, clearly weathered and worn down over many millennia and overgrown all over with flora much like that bridge they’d crossed only minutes earlier. Despite the cracks and missing pieces in its structure, this place seemed remarkably well preserved in spite of no one having come this way for at least thousands of years. The cries of the forest’s Pokemon had died down as the mist had lifted, leaving only the sound of a light breeze ruffling the leaves and the gentle flow of the beautifully clear spring that surrounded the area. Beyond the altar, a few small islands and what looked like a pair of rocky outcroppings stood out in the water, the distant shore covered by more trees and tall cliffs covered in grass that seemed to form a barrier around the place to indicate there was nowhere else to go beyond. It felt… oddly peaceful here, and while Jaffa felt considerably relieved to be in what seemed like a safe spot that nagging edge of anxiety still lingered.

”Interesting…” Eveline muttered under her breath, carefully treading up the shallow stone stairs of the shrine and approaching the central fixture that stood out in the center of it. It looked eerily similar to a headstone for a grave… was this place some kind of ancient cemetery, perhaps? Apart from the vein-like vines that lay across its surface the tombstone-like plinth looked completely unremarkable from a distance, but as she bent down to get a closer look she could see more of those strange symbols engraved into the stone, somewhat still legible but it looked like most of them had been weathered away over time. And… they looked very similar, if not exactly just like the ones on the broken sword’s blade as she held it up, noting that it had since stopped vibrating but the runes still glowed brightly. That meant this was the right place, she could only assume, but… Was there something she was meant to do with it here?

It was then that she noticed what looked like a slot of some kind below the overgrown plinth, with a thin slit cut right into the stone itself as if something was meant to be held within. Thin as it looked and in spite of being worn down much like the rest of the shrine, it seemed like the sword could potentially fit in there…

”You know, I’ve heard those stories about zee hero pulling a sword out of ze stone, never really zee other way around,” she mused to no one in particular, flipping the sword in her hand with a practiced expertise so that the blade pointed downwards. With a slightly unpleasant noise of metal scraping harshly against rock, the half-blade seemed to slip into the opening easily enough without catching on any snags… With a bit of elbow grease she managed to push the thing in as far as it would go up to the hilt before straightening herself and stepping back a little from the plinth, at least so she wouldn’t be in super close proximity in case this thing might suddenly shatter or cave in. The bright blue light that the runic symbols on the blade had been emitting was now starting to pour out of the crevice itself, and from beyond the plinth Eveline could make out sharp white light coming off of one of the rocky formations in the water. Wait… was that…? Before she could finish that thought, she moved to quickly shut and cover her eyes as the light immediately grew to blinding intensity. She could briefly make out Jaffa’s call of alarm briefly before it was drowned out by the near deafening CRUNCH of rock exploding into pieces, followed by a piercing howl and a thunderous shockwave that rocked the whole place, blowing her backwards and knocking her clear off her feet. Eveline just barely managed to twist herself to keep from landing headfirst onto the solid rock below, sending a jolt of sharp pain up her backside and making her vision go black for a brief moment as she hit the ground hard.

✧✧【 Ugh… s**t… Eveline groaned and coughed as her senses came back to her, the rough impact having knocked the breath out of her and leaving her with an angry ache spanning from between her shoulders to her tailbone. At least she hadn’t gotten a concussion from landing on her head but damn, that definitely hadn’t felt nice at all… Taking a deep breath and hoping to Arceus that she’d at least be able to move at least, she opened her eyes… and immediately felt her breath catch in her throat upon seeing a pair of sharp, golden ones staring down back at her. There, right in front of her and very clearly in the flesh, was an absolutely ******** huge wolf Pokemon unlike any she’d ever seen before. Its fur was a rich, dark purple color, tapering into a dark blueish colored tail that seemed to drape down behind it like a cape and a pair of what looked like braids in that same color flaring out from its cheeks and extending down its flanks. From her up close view, it was clear that this Pokemon, whatever it was, had experienced quite a few rough battles as its body was littered with scars of varying shapes and sizes, even its left ear was little more than a stump that seemed to have long since healed over.

It didn’t seem to be aggressive, though… It wasn’t growling or baring its teeth at her or anything, so… maybe she was safe? And then, any sense of danger and apprehension that still lingered immediately dissipated as the wolf’s piercing gaze softened into confused peering as it sniffed the air around her curiously.
”You…” it spoke in a rough but clearly feminine sounding voice, still very hoarse from what was surely a long time of disuse, ”Who are… you…?” Eveline blinked, letting herself relax a bit more now that she was decently sure she wasn’t in any imminent danger. In fact, the Pokemon seemed more bewildered and unsure than anything as she cast her golden gaze towards their surroundings as if trying to figure out if she was actually supposed to be here. ”Ah… I’m Eveline, Eveline Belmont,” she responded once she could find her voice, bringing herself to sit up slowly so she could be a bit more on level with the wolf. Or at least as much as she could be all things considered. ”Were you expecting someone else?”

The giant wolf’s eyes snapped back to her, her scarred brows furrowing as she took a moment or two to think over the woman’s question.
”I… Perhaps?” she didn’t sound the least bit confident in her answer at all, ”Forgive me, m’lady… To tell you the truth, I can’t exactly recall much of anything at this moment…” Stepping back to give Eveline a bit more room, the wolf tilted her head slightly and offered one of her braids to the woman, ”Are you hurt? Please, let me at least help you up.” Not minding the oddly kind offer, the redhead reached out and grabbed ahold of the dark hair, gripping it tight as she used the leverage to pull herself up and onto her feet and ignoring the way her sore back screamed at her from the exertion. If the sharp tugging at the braid bothered the wolf at all, it didn’t show on her face.

”Apart from feeling like I got tackled by a herd of Tauros, I’ll live, thanks,” she responded dryly, releasing her hold and taking a moment shake off the jelly-like feeling from her legs before straightening herself once more. ”So you don’t remember anything? Nothing at all? Not even a name?” The wolf frowned, gently brushing past the woman as she padded towards the central plinth, taking in the air and the different smells and sounds of the area.
”I vaguely remember this place, though it is… very different from what I can recall, but most everything else is foggy at best,” she answered, shaking her head as she turned to look back at the woman, ”And my name… I believe they called me Zacian? It sounds right to me, unless you’d prefer a different name for me, m’lady?”

Eveline honestly hadn’t given much thought to the idea of possibly adding Zacian, as she was called, to her team, but… She supposed another strong, capable Pokemon to help round out her roster was hardly a horrible idea, and she certainly wasn’t going to leave the clearly amnesiac legendary to wander around alone if her good conscience could help it. Reaching into her belt and grabbing a Pokeball, she held it out in offering to the giant wolf for her to accept if she so desired. ”Well, if you would like to come along with me and zee rest of my Pokemon on our journey, we could certainly find a new nickname for you,” she suggested, ”Perhaps exploring zee world could help jog some of those missing memories for you, non?” The wolf gazed thoughtfully at the ball in the redhead’s hand for a moment, before offering a toothy smile and lightly tapping it with her nose, allowing herself to be captured without resistance. Maybe traveling alongside this woman would allow her to see how much the world beyond this place had changed since she’d awoken, and perhaps, as Eveline had suggested, she could try to gather up more bits and pieces to puzzle together what she couldn’t remember.

”Very well. I will gladly swear my fealty to you, m’lady, and accompany you on your travels for as long as you wish for me to stay by your side,” Zacian affirmed brightly, dipping her head low in an attempt to imitate a bow, ”What will be your first decree then?” Well for starters, no more of those formal names, she’d already had enough of the whole ‘royalty treatment’ crap attending all of those fancy parties in Kalos. That really wasn’t something she really wanted, much less needed, to relive for a second time. ”First off, please just call me Eveline. The whole ‘m’lady’ schtick really isn’t necessary, there’s hardly any need to be so formal, you know.” The Zacian tilted her head curiously at that, seeming a bit confused, but raised no complaints as she dipped her head in acceptance.

”As you wish… Eveline,” she answered, pausing momentarily to correct herself before she could say 'm'lady' again out of habit. That would certainly take some getting used to, but she supposed she wouldn’t mind it that much if it was what her new owner wanted. ”And for my second decree, we’re going right to Motostoke to stay for zee night, so please stay inside your Pokeball for zee time being, okay?” the woman said, holding out the Zacian’s new ball and returning her for now, the wolf disappearing inside without any resistance. Thinking about it now, they’d definitely have to be extra careful when out in public from now on. Of course the odd looking shiny Pokemon would likely turn more than a few heads here and there, but walking around with a giant talking purple wolf in plain view was sure to stir up a lot of attention. Not exactly the best thing to do when they were explicitly trying to lay low and stay under the radar… s**t, well now there were a lot more complications involved than she was hoping to have to deal with the more she thought about it, but maybe she could try to work around them with a bit of improvisation and finagling.
