Argument Amusing had grown up in the Hearth's Fire herd, and she liked to think she knew everyone there. That wasn't quite true, but it was something comforting nonetheless--it let her think of everyone here as being part of her family. Honestly, her family seemed to be one of the biggest on the island--she had both of her parents as well as her two brothers. Five family members would be a pretty big family by the standards of a small herd if it wasn't for the fact that they were the only family in the herd. No one else had had children of their own. It wasn't exactly a big, explosive, happening kind of place.
But still, there were other people in the herd; there was that smith, Gunnbjorg, as well as three Novae in the herd. One of them was a golden stallion named Amjad. For the longest time, Amu had been running her own deliveries, but honestly, she couldn't keep doing them all of the time--she had work to do, and it felt like it was increasing all of the time. She would still have to run some of them, to the places deep inland, but if there were any deliveries she could pass off to a Nova, then she absolutely should. Amjad seemed like a good choice--he was fast, he was efficient, he was very good at his job, and hey, her brother had had good luck with him in the past--maybe it was time for her to try Amjad, see if he might be amenable. With that in mind, she headed down for the water and for Amjad's favorite spot, a line of coral that ended in a ring that he liked to hang out in. In fact, she could see him now, head just poking out of the water. He saw her, too--at her appearance, he headed in her direction, stopping when he got into the shallower water in which he could no longer float.
"Hi," she said. "Uh...I came to talk to you about...deliveries? And trade?"

Amjad new Argument Amusing; she was his friend Quarrel Querulous's sister, and the daughter of Bridgette, one of the herd's gatherers. He talked to both of them at times, mostly at festivals or when they came for a walk to the beach, or a swim or something, but honestly he'd never been able to befriend either of them. They were both a little too volatile for his liking; they were much too explosive and prone to random arguments and rages just for the sake of being contrary. Quarrel, on the other hand, took after his dignified father, and was as such much, much easier to get along with. Sometimes you had to wonder how someone so nice and quiet and cute could be related to someone quite so loud and aggressive, but there you go.
Speaking of aggressive, Amjad could see Amu (as he'd sometimes heard her called; he'd also heard her called "Arg," and he still wasn't sure which one she preferred. Hard to tell with some people sometimes, and especially with names like these--Amjad liked Venom Vile, but why did his family have to have such long names that did not lend themselves to nicknames?!) heading towards him right now. He wondered briefly if he'd done something wrong. Why else would the fiery-tempered smith be talking to him? Was it something he said to her? Or about her? He didn't think so, he couldn't remember talking about her lately. Had he done something to upset Quarrel? In which case, the upsetting was punishment enough, really...
So what was it, then? He swam in to shore to find out. There was no point in delaying the inevitable, after all. "Good morning, Argument Amusing. I hope you are doing well today." Being polite was the first, and easiest, defense of the worried and suspicious.
It turned out she was here on--business matters? She was a flier, she'd never looked for anyone else's help before, that was odd. "I do perform deliveries and conduct trade, but...why do you ask? You can do all of that yourself, you hardly need my help. You can fly, after all."
