XXXXXThe thick fog that gently rolled into the coastline did little to mask the ambient rippling of the ocean that gave the Land of Water its namesake. Soft and rhythmic, the ocean carried with it the smell of salt that pierced the senses to those unaccustomed, but for Taneju this was home. Her memories of home were questionable at best - foggy like the mist that she produced to mask her movements – but the one thing that Taneju was absolutely sure about was her undying loyalty to the village. She had been taken in to the orphanage at Kirigakure at a young age, but showed great potential for becoming a kunoichi after a brawl between the orphaned kids and her. Taneju had always looked different from the others – snowy white hair, red circular markings above her brow, and a small and almost sickly frame that often drew pity from the villagers that laid eyes upon her. Too sickly looking to be adopted, yet too young to be left on her own.
The day that Taneju had snapped was the day that the fates smiled upon the child. Taking on a group of five by herself in the yard, Taneju showed an unmatched natural talent for taijutsu. Though small and frail looking, her body proved anything but. With raw strength and blind fury alone, the girl managed to subdue every boy and girl that had pulled on her hair, called her names, teased her for being ‘too ugly to be loved’, or made her feel lesser in any other way. Of course, this was not without injury to herself, but the fractured bones of her hands seemed to heal almost instantaneously after the fight.
It was common for Taneju to reflect on that day. Without it, she would never have gotten to where she was now. She would never have discovered her true potential as a member of a clan that was at one point entirely lost to history. She would never have known about her bloodline abilities, or achieved her true potential in using it. Though she would never admit it, Taneju loved the thrill of a good fight. She loved the feeling of warm blood on her skin, the feeling of empowerment that rushes through her body every time she claims a life. Though she was a highly capable fighter in her own right, Taneju’s small frame and unique skillset had always been more well suited for covert and stealth operations. She excelled as an assassin, and was given the name ‘Fang’ for her trademark evisceration of her targets.
Shrouded in the thick mist, Taneju prepared for the next hunt, and as the figure of her mark slowly came into view the kunoichi made her move. Shallow breaths… silent footsteps… steady pace. She moved with the flow of a gentle stream, and struck with such a delicate touch that the man hadn’t even realized until he was choking on his own blood. With the mist beginning to clear now, Taneju could be seen standing quietly behind the man, one hand pressed against his back and the other resting gently against his neck. Blood-stained ivory white bone protruded from the opposite ends of each hand as she pierced through the jugular and the heart with her thin blades. In one swift motion, the girl withdrew her hands, flinging them back with enough force to draw the blood off of her bones and onto the ground in two diagonal streaks. ”I’m sorry.” She whispered solemnly as her bone blades slowly retracted back into her forearms.
