Description
___ The Phoenix is said to be an immortal bird, intrinsically linked to fire. In greek legend the bird lived to be a thousand years old before deciding it was time to die. It collected the finest herbs and spices, especially cinnamon and built it's nest out of them before singing the most beautiful haunting song. A song so perfect that even the sun god had to stop to listen. In so doing a spark from the sun fell and ignited the nest. Out of the flames a new Phoenix was born. In Chinese lore there is a bird called a Fenghuang. It represented peace and harmony, and was said to have a beautiful song. The Fenghuang was also said to be a sign of the ascension of a new emperor, and world peace. All myths have a seed of truth to them. The Phoenix is in a way immortal. They are reborn in a burst of flame when they are mortally wounded. All Phoenix also have a gift for music.
Status
___The Phoenix is mythically rare, even among the supernatural community they are believed to only exist in myths and legends. Due in part to the fact they are often unaware of their status as a supernatural creature, and in part due to their scattered numbers, and the fact that their gene is recessive. The Phoenix can overwrite other supernaturals, but can also coexist in it's recessive state. A true Phoenix can only be born from a mother Phoenix as the temperatures required would kill almost any other supernatural. Anyone with the Phoenix recessive gene heals much faster than would be normal for their species and their body temperature is slightly higher than the average.
Supernatural Information
___
Increased Temperature: A Phoenix can raise the temperature of their blood to incredible levels. Their body can grow hot enough to ignite the air around them, and when fully mastered melt steel with a touch.
Heat Absorption: A Phoenix can absorb heat to temporarily increase their abilities. Intense sources of heat like lightning, or fire can temporarily allow them to melt through steel and other iron alloys. The opposite of this is also true. Cold can sap their strength and weaken their abilities.
Regeneration: The Phoenix can regenerate from most serious wounds very quickly. Once their blood touches air it self ignites providing all of the energy they need to heal. However this leaves their internal reserves of heat drained weakening them to varying degrees depending on their age and the severity of the wound. For minor injuries exposure to something as simple as a candle flame or a lighter can accelerate the process.
Durability: A Phoenix is about 5 times as durable as a normal human. Their bones are harder to break, and their skin is harder to pierce.
Rebirth: When a Phoenix is truly mortally wounded they fully ignite in a fan of intense flames in the shape of a bird. Their essence takes flight in the flames and where it lands a new body forms. They forget their past life and even the fact they were a supernatural creature. They may or may not have a new appearance when they awake. They are also incredibly weak for the first few days, and slowly regain their powers over the course of a month.
Phoenix Song: When chooses they can infuse their voice with a commanding calming power that encourages harmony. When they do this their eyes glow the color of it's flames. They can increase this effect to be almost commanding if they perform a full display involving wings of flame.
Phoenix Cry: The Phoenix's cry is predictive in nature. It predicts supernatural renewal, rebirth, and growth.
Phoenix Tears: A Phoenix can produce special tears charged with their healing power. They are capable of burning out poisons and infections and greatly accelerating even supernatural healing for a short time.
Iron: A Phoenix is harmed by iron. Much like wolfsbane can make a werewolf sick and weaken them pure Iron is toxic to a Phoenix. It also burns them to the touch. A Phoenix cannot melt iron, nor can it heal if iron is still present in the wound. An Iron blade to the heart paralyzes a Phoenix, and it cannot cross a barriers made of pure iron.
Cold: Cold saps the strength from a Phoenix and can slow their healing abilities. Anything Below -15 degrees Celsius quickly renders a phoenix no more powerful than a human.
Water: A Phoenix cannot ignite underwater. Therefore it cannot heal. It can however raise the temperature of the water to boiling. Drowning a phoenix ends the cycle of reincarnation as their soul-fire could not leave the water without being extinguished.
Obsidian: A Phoenix's power and some memories can be stored inside the stone known as obsidian. The stone however, if turned into a dagger or arrow head, can cause wounds that don't heal due it it's absorption properties. Once, or if, the obsidian is removed a phoenix would need an extreme external heat to apply to the wound so that they can heal as normal but even then the rate of healing is slowed down.
