The Iron Hides had been disbanned mostly, with only a few wolves staying after the death of their Alpha Iron. Snow Rabbit had found himself wandering off on his own through the thick forests, finding himself unknowingly in a lush field. He wasn't too far from the pack as some Harvesters weren't too far off from Snow Rabbit's whereabouts. But he wasn't aware on how far.
He had found himself in a predicament. The smell of rain had crept on him between the lush grass and the leaves were not in earshot of him. He didn't expect to hear the rain blind him completely. His nostrils flared to find himself to some coverage but he knew that in such a lush clearing with no trees, that he may end up tripping or getting more lost. A soft upset sound had broken from Snow Rabbit's throat; a whine escaped him. It sort of surprised the new Alpha as his ears flexed around to see if it would help him locate another. Snow Rabbit had noticed it was he himself making the sound.
But nonetheless he tried to feel out for a few steps, allowing himself to sink into the ground that was quickly as wet as the snowy pelted wolf had become. His thick coat helped him but his outer layer was definitely drenched. Dragging his paws slowly to keep himself from tripping and getting himself even more confused; or worse.. Hurt. Which wasn't his luck, although given a lucky name like Rabbit; he found himself face first into the mud. Grumbling as he collected himself he heard a matured Crow chuckle in amusement at the blind wolf's antics. His ears turning towards the Crow as his face swung around to help his ears find where the chuckling caws came from. "Over here.." Snow Rabbit heard the Crow who had seemed to approach him from behind him. He turned his face around as much as it could. There you go.."
Snow Rabbit recognised the voice as she had come even closer. "Hydrangea? Was it?" He recognised the sound even with all of the water matrix happening around him. "Yes! I gather you are new set of paws asked by the old oaf to take his reigns?"
"Yes.. in some way." He answered her soft, matured caws. "Snow Rabbit." She named him, "Do you need help getting to cover? I know you're a northern wolf but I am sure you will get cold if you stay out here any longer. I can not fly very far now that it is raining."
His cunning and kind smile spread on his jaws, "Please.." He'd let out with defeat, moving to get up and shake himself off. He felt Hydrangea move onto his back with his permission. She gave him directions and sooner or later the young Rabbit had found himself under a good hollowed out tree.
As the two laid under the hollow, Hydrangea huddled close to the new Alpha who had just moments before ducking under cover shook whatever water he could. He knew the female Crow had definitely been hit with most of her water. She had let her wings spread over his face and front area to enable him to be able to hear his surroundings a bit more. Breathing through his nose for a moment he leaned an ear towards the older resident. "How long have you been in Iron Hides?" He asked.
"Since I was an egg."
Snow Rabbit tilted his head, mostly out of habit.
"My parents were from the Iron Hides initially. Two Launchers." She said brightly, with a good amount of pride beneath her voice. It made Snow Rabbit smile his cunning smile once again.
"What made you decide to be a Harvester?"
"I didn't want to die like my parents both did. It was before the Iron Hides instilled laws over our jobs."
Snow Rabbit's ears lowered, "Oh dear, Miss Hydrangea. I'm very sorry."
With that Hydrangea fluttered her wings to spread out her remiges to dry. "No matter, Snow Rabbit. Thank you for the condolences but it was quite before your time. What of your parents?" The older resident asked.
"They're alive, out there." Snow Rabbit kindly noted, "Perhaps having more and more puppies. I do miss them sometimes but I am here for a reason. I am sure they'd be proud of me.."
"I have never been a parent to my own, but I have parented many a wolf and other animal. Some crows of broken families. I can say that everything they do.. I am happy to hear about. You have a good head on your shoulders, you would have to if Iron instilled heirship on you." The Crow tutted. "I was his familiar before he passed. Perhaps.. It is time I look to bond elsewhere? Would you like my help?"
Snow Rabbit listened to her words happily, but as Hydrangea suggested bonding to him he looked surprised which made him tilt his head deeper. For a moment he concentrated on the question. "I think I could use a working set of eyes!" He'd chirp happily at the bird. Hydrangea nodded, "I was going to say. That you could very well use me." She'd give a chattering laugh.
