- Blood is indeed thicker than water, and marriage is what ensures the continuation of those strong Berserker lineages. Traditionally, unions can come about for any number of reasons, rarely just out of love, and a strong pact gains quick attention from neighboring tribes.
Traditionally, Berserker wolves marry. Marriage between two Berserker’s allow for a surname to be created that both will share and pass to their children. Surnames are passed by the father of a breeding. Females will end up taking on the surname of their spouses upon marriage, or dropping them if they lifemate/wed a non-Berserker. On rare occasion, a male might take on a female's surname, or upon mating with a non-Berserker, a surname can be shared with the outsider blood. But this is not typical in the least.
Wolves listed in this marriage thread will be allowed one extra breeding per calendar year for a total of four breedings a year. However, married wolves are only eligible for a fourth breeding if all three of their prior breedings for the calendar year have been with their mate. Married wolves can breed out of their marriage, but they will lose their fourth breeding for the year.
Marriage Rules:
• Only two Berserker’s who wed will obtain a surname, or a male Berserker and a strong non-Berserker. Female Berserker’s who wed outside of the breed will not carry a surname and will lose her surname she had prior. If neither Berserker have a surname, they will create one to share together upon marriage.
• Puppies born from married pairs will also receive the surname of their parents. As a reminder, only the males will continue on the family line. Females will take on the name of their spouses, or lose their name if they marry a non-Berserker.
• To be wed, both wolves will need to be certed.
• While same-sex pairings and weddings can happen, for the purpose of surname tracking we will not have them posted here, as same-sex pairings do not pass on surnames or create them due to Berserker tradition.

Surname Change Application
Wielding a surname shows extreme loyalty to one’s ancestry and/or to a partner’s ancestry. Although not all Berserkers are required to ascribe to this practice, those who do not quickly become the minority. Still, as is the case in any story, there are those who find need to break tradition; be it for one reason or another.
First and foremost, this is not a common practice so it will require more than just a simple form to see through. A plethora of circumstances might warrant this sort of action, but it is up to the player to decide (and to get creative) with how they want to establish this need.
The requirements are as followed:
• Player must have a certed character with a surname they wish to change/drop. This does not apply to Berserker’s alone.
• Surname changes can be completely new (and not connected to any other family currently in Kells) or changed to match that of a current family name so long as OOC approval is given!
• The character must have at least two other RP’s under their belt, each totaling to 500 WC. They can be solo’s or partnered.
• Player must provide a 1k WC RP that describes, in one form or another, ‘why’ the character wishes to change/drop their surname. This RP can be soloed or done with a partner, but must include the wolf wanting to change/drop their surname.
• Player must fill out a form and post it below, waiting for approval before the name change becomes ICly official.
Some common reasons for surname changes are:
• Divorce
• Death of loved one
• Betrayal of loved one
• ‘Fresh Start’
• New Love
OOC implications for surname changes (subject to change):
• A change in surname through this method will not be reflected on the character’s official cert. This is considered an IC change!
• Surname changes will be passed down to their children, however, so long as that is the desired wish of the player.
Why your application was denied:
• You did not meet the RP requirements/WC in order to qualify! Please go back and review your application before requoting Shia bean.
• Your 'circumstance' was not strong enough. Take into consideration how grounded Berserker's are in their culture, what the common reasons are for changing a surname, and why your character would have need for it.
• You did not receive approval for use of a claimed surname!
