PERSONALITY PERSONALITY
Dedicated and hardworking, Silas is a studious young man who always puts his best effort into any task he undertakes. Combining this with an innate curiosity and an insatiable thirst for knowledge, it's easy to see why he constantly either has his nose pressed into a book or poking around somewhere. Of course, while his enthusiasm may be of some merit, he can sometimes teeter the line between zeal and obsessive. Once a given topic or riddle sparks his interest, he will tenaciously pursue the matter until he's reached a satisfying conclusion. Unfortunately, this can cause him to overlook certain social cues from others, as well as his own personal safety. Still, despite whatever trouble he may sometimes get himself into, he's a good-natured guy at heart and is always willing to lend a hand to help those around him. He just needs someone to remind him to pump the breaks from time to time.
HISTORY HISTORY
Born the only child to Peter Finch and Rebecca Douglas, Silas hails from Nacrene City in the Unova region. While both of his parents loved him very dearly and shared affection for one another, a rift slowly began to form between the couple. At the time of his birth, his mother was working as an assistant manager for the local pokemart but her ambitions were far greater. With dreams of corporate success, she longed to move to Castelia City where she could use her keen mind (and a finance/economics degree she worked very hard to obtain) to find success in the realm of financial management. His father, on the other hand, a native of Castelia City, had become quite accustomed to small town living and greatly enjoyed his work as a custodian for the local museum, making the notion of returning to the bustling metropolis unappealing. The two had many arguments over the matter and with neither of them willing to compromise, they eventually divorced and went their separate ways when Silas was five. Thus began his life of bouncing back and forth between the two cities.
Thankfully, rather than have Silas constantly living his life in transit, his parents devised a system where he would spend more extended periods living in the two areas. Since he was attending the trainer school in Striaton City, it was decided that he would spend school periods living with his father since Nacrene City was such a short distance away, and any extended breaks would be spent in Castelia City with his mother. Of course, Silas would have preferred that his parents stay together and they all live in one location year round, but given the circumstances, it seemed as good a system as any so he didn't protest. Besides, it did have its benefits, allowing him to spend time studying the various exhibits at the Nacrene Museum and take advantage of the greater selection of research materials that could be found in Castelia. It was far from a picture perfect life, but he managed to make the most of it.
While his circumstances may have had him living two seemingly separate lives, Silas did have at least one friend who remained a constant in his life no matter where he went, Rew. A sandshrew that was given to him in the wake of his parents' separation, Rew served as emotional support for Silas and kept him as a constant companion. Even after coming to terms with his parents' divorce, the bond between the two remained as close as ever, perhaps even closer. It was certainly nice for Silas to have someone who would allow him to ramble on and on about whatever topic was currently occupying his mind, even if Rew did have a habit of falling asleep during said ramblings. Indeed, Rew was just the sort of Silas needed.
Having now finished his time at the trainer school, Silas is currently looking towards his future. While he does hope to one day attend Castelia University to further his passions for both archeology and paleontology, he has decided to put off higher education for the moment. Despite having spent so much of his life on the road, he had actually done very little traveling in his time. There was so much of the Unova region he had yet to experience, let alone the other regions. As such, he decided that before locking himself away in a library for the next five to eight years, he would embark on a journey to broaden his perspective on life. And with Rew by his side as always, he's confident that he's ready for whatever the world has to throw at him.
