 “Glory, lets rest here for the night,” River said as he looked over to Glory. They were close to the pack territory. Really close. In fact, if they kept going, they would be at the main den just before night fall. He wasn’t sure if his pack would welcome him back. He essentially disappeared right after his father was killed. His brother would surely welcome him, but the others might not be so welcoming. They would probably blame him for his father’s death and try to kick him out. He was worried. He could play it off as he went to look for a mate to bring back to the pack. His brother had no mate and it didn’t look as if he was looking either. With River having a mate, it would bring some stability for the next bloodline. The only issue was Glory wasn’t officially his mate. They had traveled a while before reaching the border of the pack territory. The longer they traveled together, the more he was certain that he wanted her as a mate. He wasn’t sure if she wanted him though. He pawed at the ground a little. “We’ll be in pack territory tomorrow,” River finally said. “I haven’t heard from my brother in a while. Not since I left after my father was killed. I’m sure he has everything under control… however, my father left the pack to me, not my brother. It might be dangerous when we get to the den.”

 Glory stopped a step behind River. She sensed he was worried and felt the need to comfort him somehow. “River, what’s bothering you? You’re afraid they’ll be unwelcoming to me? Or you? Or both of us,” the last part wasn’t questioning. Glory Was nervous about the possibility of them both being chased out. Who knows how the pack would react to them. She feared they’d welcome River and would try to intimidate her; making her leave since she was an outsider. She had no position in the pack, and the only way they’d allow her to stay was if she was River’s mate, but she had her doubts that he wanted her in that way. They had grown to be good friends and their friendship hadn’t gone any further. Yet. Glory hoped she could be more to him. Glory nudged his side playfully with her forehead and wolfishly smiled at River. “There’s no worth in worrying about what will come tomorrow. Let’s rest and enjoy the peace we have now,” she walked alongside him and brushed up against him on purpose to try and distract his mind from his thoughts. She had grown fond of him on their journey together, and she wanted to stay with him. “Any dangers that await us, we’ll face together. I won’t leave your side. No matter what,” Glory held eye contact as she promised this to him, then glanced away when her cheeks flushed. She pretended to busy herself with looking for a comfy spot to lay down.

River couldn’t help but smile. Glory truly had a way to put a smile on his face. “Yes, those are some of my worries. My father left the pack to me, but there’s a chance my brother has taken over.” River sighed a little as he nudged his head against Glory’s. “There’s also the possibility that we might have to start the pack over from scratch. My father was killed, and my brother could also be dead. We might be coming home to nothing and that scares me more then coming home to angry wolves that don’t want us there anymore.” River liked having Glory close to him. His tail thumped against the earth as he nuzzled his head against hers once more. Even when she looked at him, he felt lost in her eyes. ‘Keep it together, River,’ he thought as he too looked away. He cleared his throat a little as he sniffed the air. “I’ll find us some dinner. I think I smell some rabbits nearby.”

"If you have to start from scratch... that would make you Alpha. Do you feel ready for that?" Glory asked as she lay on her side, stretched out, and her chin rested on her crossed paws. Her amber eyes watched his reaction with curiosity, and her cheeks felt cooler than they had a few seconds ago. Her ears perked up at the mention of 'we' and she felt a warmth sweep over her as he nuzzled his head against hers. She smiled and felt the butterflies in her stomach flutter again; the more time she spent with River, the more she felt her fondness of him grow. She didn't think about the possibility of losing this feeling or him. "Would you like some help? I'm pretty good at hunting," Glory sat up and sniffed the air too. "Or are you afraid of some friendly competition?" she winked and grinned at River, her tail happily thumping the ground.

“I promised you a home to go to,” River said quietly. He knew if he had to start over from scratch, he could. He just didn’t know if Glory would be up to becoming the Alpha with him. He then returned his thoughts to the hunt. A smirk crossed his face as he looked at Glory. “I’m not afraid of anything,” he said, his smirk getting bigger. “Are you sure you want to loose again? Last couple times you challenged me didn’t end very well.” His grin became wider. He was a capable hunter, and he knew Glory was too. He wagged his tail a little. He loved this playful side that Glory always seemed to bring out of him. Maybe he would let her win this one time… Just this once.

Glory felt her chest tighten at his words and was surprised at her reaction for a moment. “Being by your side has been more of a home than I’ve ever known. I don’t want to leave,” she let the warmth and affection she felt toward River be vulnerable in her words. Her words hung in the air for a second more before she gave him a playful smirk. “I can’t help that you’re such a distraction,” she laughed and grinned. It wasn’t a lie. The last few times she lost was because she was more focused on River and the fun she was having, she forgot what her goal was. It was also a great change to hear her own laughter. She never knew she even had such a dorky laugh until he brought it out of her, and in turn, she loved hearing his. “If I lose again, well that just means I’ll need better teaching from the master,” Glory purred and sidled up beside him, nuzzled under his chin with the top of her head, and continued to saunter on by him. The tip of her tail was the last to brush under his chin before she took off to get a head start. “See you on the other side!” Glory laughed as she ducked beneath a bush and sniffed vigorously to catch the scent of the rabbits again.

“Hey!” River called after Glory. All he could do was smile as she took off from distracting him. She did a good job. It took him a moment to realize what she was doing. He took off after her. “You that know that’s cheating!” At moments like these that River felt like he was a puppy again, having fun and running around. Only this time, he was chasing someone he cared about. Racing towards something that he no doubt knew he needed. He had caught up to Glory, running beside her but not quite passing her. He didn’t care about the hunt, but he enjoyed racing beside Glory. [

"It's not cheating. Just a friendly head start!" Glory laughed as she ran. She caught sight of him as he came right up beside her and happily laughed some more. She had fun with him no matter what the moment held, she always found herself with a smile because of him. Her smile, she realized, was for him. Glory forgot about the hunt and let out a yelp of excitement. Eventually her stomach would remind her, but for now she enjoyed the ecstatic feelings of the wind through her fur and racing alongside River. She waggled her eyebrows at him and bumped into his side gently. She didn't want to knock him down or cause him to trip, but she didn't watch herself. Glory got one front paw too close to the other and tripped over her paws. She went sideways toward River and did her best to roll away and not land on top of him. Glory was slightly smaller than the average female wolf so she wasn't too heavy if she did land on top of him. As she landed and came to a stop, all she could do was giggle and her eyes were lit up with happiness. She took a mental once over of herself and didn't feel any injured areas. "Are you okay?" Glory looked to River and asked once she was able to calm down and breathe normally, though she still had a few giggles slip here and there.

River blinked as Glory tripped into him. He wasn’t sure what exactly happened, but one moment they were racing side by side, the next he was under her as they tumbled a little. Her scarf was wrapped around him as well, bringing her closer to him then he realized. He gave her a gently lick on her check before chuckling a little as she giggled. There was never a dull moment with Glory and the more time he spent with her, the stronger his feelings for her grew. ‘I’m alright,’ was what he thought he would say. His mouth, on the other hand, didn’t agree with those words. “Will you be my mate?”

Glory blushed hard when he licked her cheek, and she realized how close she was to him. She made eye contact, held his gaze, and was lost in his icy blue eyes. Continuing to blush, she licked his cheek in return because she didn't know what else to do in that moment. Her heart was pounding, but she wasn't nervous and moved even closer. This felt right and she wanted him to know how much her feelings had grown for him. "River I-" she was cut off by his question. "Yes," Glory answered without hesitation. "I was wondering why it took you so long to ask," she smiled and nuzzled him affectionately. "I love you."
