You should probably go see a doctor and ask what can be done. You could also ask about going on birth control, as many females use it as a solution for heavy periods and/or really bad cramps. It's not for everyone, but it works for a lot of people. Birth control (such as the Pill) can also make you regular too.

I agree that the pill may be the best solution for you.
For cramps, yoga helps a great deal. Your local gym may offer classes, but that can be expensive. You can buy books and do it at home, too. The types of movements really help to loosen up that whole area (leading to plenty of embarassing farting moments, but I shan't go into that wink ).

Arg whee *sympathy cookies*
I have some horrid cramps/bloating/homicidal thoughts/nausea during and around my period. Personally, I found that after I stopped eating meat those symptoms lightened up so much =) So maybe around the time you usually start feeling gross, lighten up on the meat consumption (but not protein, a bleeding uterus needs lots of it!), along with salt, caffeine, fatty foods and lazing around.
Get up and move around, stretching as much as possible. For some reason, being in an almost uncomfortably cool room helps too 0o Also, remember that your body will want to sleep around this time, and will need to do so a lot more than usual. If you deprive it of that sleep, naturally, you won't feel good. Apparantly we use up a lot of energy sloughing off uterine lining! Wonder how many calories that burns... Anyway.
Being in a good place mentally helps quite a bit. I usually rent Evil Dead or Carrie and make my friends suffer with me >;D Try not to hole up in your room, as much as you may want to. If you have nothing else to focus on, they'll be 10x worse. <3
