Bitterness is all the young wolf felt and it was obvious from the annoyed look on his face. He didn't make friends easily and he blamed it on the way he handled being around others. He was friendly to a point and then after that no one wanted to take their time getting to know him beyond the initial meeting. It was something that really annoyed Frost and was also something he couldn't really change unless he forced the other being to stay there with him, but then he would be no better then his parents. They were cold-hearted killing machines and he didn't want to be like them ever. Growing up it was hard being the only pup who wasn't into bloodshed for no reason and he never really got a thrill out of killing unless it was for food. He was kind and gentle. A compassionate and really caring wolf, but you had to really prove your worth to him. You had to give your time to him and he will do the same back. Respecting others is big to him and it's pretty obvious when you first meet him.
That is if anyone even bothered meeting him.
He scoffed at his own thoughts as he trekked slowly through the dense forest feeling the cool air sweep through his dense fur and was grateful it was a nice day out for once. It had been hot. Very hot and he had to take a couple swims in any course of water he found just to cool off a little bit. So it was a welcomed change for once.
He sniffed the air when he felt his stomach rumble and caught wind of something in the air. Something that was familiar to him. Another wolf or maybe wolves. He could smell the scent and while he wasn't going to run, he really didn't want to fight anything. If he had to then so be it, but he was going to look as non-threatening as possible. However, there was only one big issue with that.
He always had resting b***h face.
"There is no point in hiding..so come out and show yourself."

Southern Shadow froze in the bush. Her kill wasn’t her own. She had sweet talked another wolf into letting a poor, starving pup have a morsel for elk, and the plot had been successful: she had gained enough of a meal to let her sit and rest for the afternoon, small as her stomach was. She’d need to think of something with Ominous Wind later when they met up at their hiding spot again, but for now she had been concentrated on scarfing down meat. That is, until she heard another animal and caught his scent on the wind. An adult male. One moment. Two moments. Three moments. And then he called her out. Several options: One, ignore him. That was stupid. He could just as easily nose his way into the bush, following the smell of her food. Two, run for it. That was less risky—most didn’t bother chasing a random runt around. But she was loathe to leave her meal half-finished. So she went with the third option. Southern Shadow slid out from the bush with as much composure as she thought possible, fresh blood on her muzzle, chest, and forelimbs. Red and blue eyes narrowed as she looked up at him, seemingly unaffordable, though her stiff tail belied that. “Need something?” the pup asked with an edge to her voice. She didn’t kid herself by thinking she was in any way menacing, but maybe she could spin her looks some other way.

A pup? Frost was a little stunned by the sight because it had been a very long time since he had even seen someone younger then himself and her being alone really made him wonder what her story was. Or maybe she wasn't alone and the wolf watching her was busy creating an ambush right now? He had a couple thoughts in his mind, but he felt confident that this little one was alone. If not then he was be in for a surprise that was for sure. "Are you alone?" He asked the obvious question first just to get it out of the way and put his mind at ease. He didn't want to have to worry about someone creeping up on him from behind. "I don't need anything in particular..I wasn't expecting you that is for sure." He kept his gaze on the little pup taking note of her different colored eyes. It wasn't uncommon to see and he always found it fascinating mostly because he didn't have that. He had a couple different colors in his hues.
"I was just about to hunt.." He mentioned as he looked away from the little one catching wind of something else in the area. "Have you eaten?" He was a bit more friendly to pups then he was adults because he knew how vulnerable they were. He was once a pup himself and he remembered all the times he had to fend for himself thanks to his parents or he would go hungry for the night. It wasn't easy and he would never want that kind of life on another so young. "But first..we should start with names don't you think?" He sat down facing the pup and tilted his head a little to the side as he watched her. He didn't get any closer then he was from the start just in case he scared her off. "I'm Frost for short..my whole name isn't something you need to know..what is your name?" He flicked his stubble of a tail behind him as he waited.medigel omg she is so cute ;o; Also you can't tell what his eyes look like there too much, but this is the image I based them on. So they look similar to that <3

“Frost” didn’t feel right to her. Not the lacking of a whole name, but the disconnect between someone that looked stern and cold and someone that was also apparently kind. Southern Shadow was wary for a number of reasons on principle, and part of that survival kit had involved breaking down other creatures into bite sized traits. This one was sweet and airheaded, way too easy. That one was aggressive and glory-seeking, play into the hero complex. Rare was it that she encountered someone who showed two different fronts that quickly, and it made her suspicious. “You can call me Shadow,” she offered, piece for piece. But she wouldn’t reveal her sister’s whereabouts. Who knew if the stranger was involved with undesirables? Southern Shadow regarded Frost and his strange eyes (shiny, multicolored—had they been jewels, she would have wanted to take one if it couldn’t be bartered for) and thought quickly. She was already half gorged on the morsel, but the chance at more food...Maybe she could bring her portion back to her sister, or hide it away and lead her there later. Maybe she could pick up a hunting trick. It all just seemed a little too...nice, though. The pup also sat on her haunches and licked her bloody lips. “I ate a little,” she replied, since it wasn’t like she could hide it now. “Why do you care?” It wasn’t quite accusatory, though Southern Shadow always had an edge to her voice these days, but she was curious. XxXPandamoniumXxX yo those are straight gemstone eyes, nice! Also gdi first post’s “unaffordable” is supposed to be “unafraid” I hate being phonestuck (although SS would happily agree she’s priceless)

He could tell the pup was a little like him. Even if she was playing the defensive card at the moment she was just as standoffish as he was and that made him a little more calm. He had trouble around strangers even if she was a pup and he could handle them better, he usually would feel uneasy. Her attitude towards him let him know that she was strong for her young age and it also let him know that she really was on her own. Even if she may have someone else out there she obviously was keeping her guard up and he knew that feeling all too well. "So Shadow.." He let the name slip off his tongue in a acid like manner. He didn't mean to make it come off so gruff, but he grew up in that type of environment and it did rub off on him eventually. "..you ate a little already..am I suppose to believe that? Was it something small? Like a hare maybe?" He asked hearing her ask why he cared.
Why did he care exactly? Maybe there was a part of him that saw himself in the little pup. When he finally was able to break away from his family, he was probably a little older then her and he had to survive on anything small he could find. He wasn't big enough to hunt deer or anything that large. So maybe he cared because he knew the struggle. He knew what it felt like to be so guarded. "I was going to ask you to join me..but if your set on taking care of yourself..then I guess I don't care." He narrowed his eyes only slightly before relaxing them again. No that wasn't the right way to handle things.
He stood once again and slowly turned away from the female pup still sniffing the air for the familiar scent he had just caught wind of moments before. it was still there. "I can offer you half of the kill..take it or leave it." He gave her an ultimatum knowing she had no reason to trust him. He was just as mysterious as she was at this moment. "I can tell you with certainty..that I mean you no harm. I don't hurt pups.." He said with a low growl. Anyone that did was a coward and weak.
He calmed himself before walking slowly away from her wondering if she was going to follow.

Her ears flattened briefly before she restored a modicum of calm. “Elk, actually,” she said, chin up. That a single puppy could take one of those down was inconceivable, but he could fit whatever details he wanted to justify it. It wasn’t a lie. Frost seemed to have trouble being nice, flipping between being tart and being generous. Southern Shadow continued to eye him warily. He didn’t seem like he was faking it, more like he didn’t know what to do and how quite to react. Awkward and stiff, but not exactly hostile. It’d be a different sort of play altogether if she accepted, not the meek little loner or the adoring young girl. Maybe she ought to flex her chops with a different persona. And at the first sign of trouble, she could dip right out; the forest here was familiar territory. Slowly, Southern Shadow relaxed. “I’m just supposed to take your word for it?” She asked dryly, though after a moment she did start to tail Frost, her steps so quiet that her scent was more a mark of her presence when she wasn’t talking. “‘I promise I won’t eat you if you come follow me into this secluded place alone!’ Great sales pitch, Mr. I Don’t Care No Really I Don’t.”

He was intrigued by her now. To take down an elk even if it was young was a feat. A great feat for a pup and she could have easily gotten killed. He could tell she wasn't lying and was being truthful with every single word. This was even more intriguing to him. He glanced back at her, but didn't mention anything about the elk or praise her for taking down something so big. He wasn't jealous or envious of her. He didn't want it to go to her head and then she gets herself killed because of it.
Then came her dry remark that made his eyes narrow ever so slightly as he stopped in his tracks. "If I wanted to kill you I would have done so the moment you left the bushes. You can take my word for it or simply be on you way..It doesn't matter to me." He told the pup keeping her as disconnected from him as possible. He did worry about her safety a hell of a lot even if he didn't quite show that he cared. He stood still and lifted his head up to the air again making sure the smell was still there. This time however, he smelled nothing. It was gone. It was either because they were being too loud or because the animal simply moved on. This irritated him and the only visible way he shown his annoyance was by the flick of his ear. He was going to have to get food later after this pup left and he knew she would because everyone left in the end.
"The animal moved on.." He mentioned in a slightly defeated tone as he sat down on the ground again turning his gaze to her once more. Maybe he should try being a little nicer and then maybe she wouldn't be so mistrusting of him. He was going to try even if he failed. "It's not that I don't care..I have been alone for a very long time. If I creep you out or make you wary of me..I don't mean to. I can tell your a little afraid..I'm just...a traveler. Been traveling since I was a little older then you." He admitted as he looked away from her. He didn't want to tell her too much because that would mean he would be connecting with her. "I am assuming you are not part of a pack then?" He asked not turning to look at her. "If you do choose to leave..I would like to walk you home." He didn't even know if she had a home to go back to, but he was willing to at least go there with her to make sure she was safe. medigel Man this two are stubborn. xDDD

She chose the third option again: sassy and staying. “Ooo, spooky,” Southern Shadow muttered. Everything in a half mile radius could kill her. He could get in line. Of course, the few things that couldn’t (or at least would have a harder time trying) weren’t going to be so easily tracked. It didn’t really matter that she knew how to keep light on her paws if she was going to mouth off every other second, but whatever. She hadn’t banked on them being successful that easily anyway. Easy rule, that: never put everything in one basket, because then everything can go wrong. Frost was weird. She kept glancing at him as she double checked his assessment, half to make sure her back was never wholly turned to him and half because he was just weird, and the pup couldn’t quite peg why. Was he being honest when he said he had left a similar life, or was he lying to get sympathy? Considering how standoffish he was, Southern Shadow could believe that he had been abandoned. Parents were stupid picky and unreliable like that; it was probably more common than she’d thought. Too bad he didn’t have a cool sister like she did. “No pack,” she confirmed, turning to him. “Don’t really need them.” Which was a bold statement given how skinny she looked, even half full of meat, but her posture dared him to argue. “So you just give up because it’s gone? Some hunter you are. What about my lesson?”

Frost wasn't real keen on hanging around with a snippy pup all afternoon and he definitely didn't want to teach her anything. It wasn't that he hated pups, in fact he was quite fond of them, it was more the growing attached that bothered him. He didn't want to know her because then he would feel an attachment to her like a father or some kind of bond similar. "I don't give lessons especially to a snippy little mutt like you." He grumbled as he walked slowly away from her and didn't wander far. He put some distance between them and while normally he would have left by now, he felt a little sorry for the pup since she was so alone.
"If you really mean those words about not needing a pack..then make sure your careful. Being a lone wolf isn't easy and if you do decide on a pack.." He tensed up a bit remembering his horrible past making him grow irritated. "Be even more careful...you don't know what could happen." He said to the little pup before looking in the distance catching a glance of something moving. He couldn't make out what it was and that was okay since he was going to explore anyway. "If your set on following me while I hunt then follow, but if you fall behind I'm leaving you." He said gruffly as he started walking in the direction of the movement. He was sure it was a deer, but if it wasn't he wanted to be the first one to at least see just in case it was something more deadly.
The last thing he wanted was for the pup to be hurt even if she drove him insane. medigel I don't know if you want to stop at 5 posts each? Which I'm fine with and it can fade out for the hunt. Or we can continue? I wouldn't mind it fading out and then starting a new RP with maybe them continuing their journey at a later time? Up to you!

Southern Shadow rolled her eyes when she thought he wouldn’t notice. As far as she was concerned, she didn’t need anyone but Ominous Wind. What was a pack going to do except force them to play nice and share and pretend to care about them? No, this puppy was intent on staying a loner with her sister, using that status to get targets closer until she got too big to run the con anymore. And then she’d just come up with another one. Nothing else had to change. “Did your old pack kick you out?” Southern Shadow asked. She was pointedly dogging him, so that was her answer to that as well. “S’that why you’re preaching?” XxXPandamoniumXxX we can fade out to post hunt if u wanna continue, or else he shuts her down, fade to hunt, end rp! Since it’s a one-time thing I don’t know if we could make a second rp

Frost really didn't want to explain to this pup that he was in fact kicked out of a pack and he really didn't want to have to explain the why. "So what if they did? And I'm not preaching. I'm talking. Am I not allowed to talk now?" He grimaced at the young pup before walking with her in toe knowing she wasn't going to let up anyway. He didn't really want her injured on this hunting trip so he had to be careful.
"How about this...we will go hunting, but I need you to be careful. The last thing I need is to worry about a injured pup." He said as he snorted and sniffed the air taking in the scent of the dear close by. "Let's go the deer is close." He said with a nod and before he could even mention anything further he sprinted off into the distance after the beast.
Whether or not the hunt went well was for another day.
