Pridal History
The world is a cold and bitter place.
In ther ancient poast there were far less creatures bright of pelt or as painted as the gods. In the old days it was browns and reds and golds; it was tans and beiges, off-greys and the rare silver. In those days those bright of pelt were often cast from prides as soon as they were able to care for themselves. These outcasts roamed the roguelands in droves, searching for a place to belong. Some favored the day, where others favored night. They tried pack and pride and clan, and tried to find homes to no avail, until the stars seemed to pitythem. These lost souls trickled along following the milky clouds forming in the sky in whorls of paths, seeming to lead them to a quiet place.
There was nothing by this place. A large glade, with a lake, large and cool, fed by a beautiful waterfall, water clear and crisop that reflected the sky. Here the lost, bright souls displaced by othr prides found the stars shone ever more brightly; the sun ever slightly warmer. They did not question the place, only knowing it felt... Safe. Welcoming. And they found others, specifically, one another, gathering together and becoming safe. They understood one another's trials and tribulations, and began to live as a pride. For a few seasons they lived without organization -- leaderless, wild, but caring for one another. Slowly, they began working together -- a few knew to fight, to hunt, to craft, or to treat the ill. One was the outcast son of a king, whom learned from watching to guide. And the pride pulled itself into a structure as the time marched on. A monarchy, a council, all represented. All accounted for. TYhe pride learned to watch for those cast out from their homes, takingthem in, and slowly, some questioned if their pride was born of divine will, or the sky's will. The pride, of course, came to believe both -- the stars were even older than they, primordial elementals dottingthe sky. Their first messengers were the gods. However, the gods became tainted by mortals, easily offing their burdens unto mortals, trading mortality for immortality and flight and power. And then came those with the souls of stars -- the starseeds. However the pride came to learn other beings lived in the body of a mortal -- demons, dragons, dryads -- all embodied by mortal flesh. All viewed poorly for their pelts, their beliefs. They too, became welcomed, and from stories, and knowledge, the pride realized the world was dangerous, and came to prepare for it. Still, they came to live in peace.
In the most recent yers, the pride was frightened bythe loss of the moon and stars. Unaware of the War in Heaven, some set out to seek the sky's denizens, even after they retiurned. There was clear proof the primordial wished they offer the ancient paths to the pride's safe haven, any way possible. For weal or woe, they rumble, stretching from their quiet haven to find the outside world, and, perhaps, to openly take those whom might yet seek a home for the outcasts.

The Watoto and Pelts part 1 - Overview
The Watoto wa Nyota began as SoA cast out for being born with the 'wrong' pelt. Bright colors, non-natural hues, and being colorful made them outcasts, and as such the pride will usually take in those of unnatural or unique pelts. The pride celebrates what makes them specialand unique, and to this end, the pride is pretty much a literal rainbow.
However where most prides with pelt restrictions will banish those of 'improper' colors, the Watoto does not believe in exile.. Those born of unfortunately natural pelts are not kicked out, mistreated, or even punished for their birth -- and are often able to hold some very good ranks, however, these births are usually rare as natural hues are not common. The pride is also not without mercy -- parents in distress or orphans will be taken in without wquestion regardless of pelt color because the pride refuses to be like those other priudes as it is seen. To that end, those in need are welcomed in and encouraged to find a pretty offbeat mate to help fit in better -- those of natural pelt are usually discouraged, but NOT stopped from taking more natural mates.
The pride does however, value some pelts over others and consider some hues neutral enoughthat 'natural' doesn't matter. Black is seen as colorful and composite of all hues while white is colorless; greys are also accepted, and seen as variuants of white or black, as these three colors are considered abnormal in some prides. The Watoto love them, and accept them right alongside that rainbow a*****e that just sneezed pink sparkly rainbow clouds.
The pride does venerate star markings in pelts, believing the more you reflect the stars, the BETTER. This is usually dark starry pelts, but bright starry pelts are also welcome -- the sun guided those favoring the day, after all. Those born of starry pelt are given a special rtanking based on the amount of stars in their fur, and are often consuidered teachers or spiritual leaders. The following post exemplifies what is or is not natural, as well as the tiers of stars and their prefix in ranking.

The Watoto and Pelts part 2 - Stars, Rainbows, and NaturalsIn the Watoto wa Nyota, there are three main pelt classes, soe more acceptable than others. This guide will explain each, and, perhaps, clarify what is what! Stars Star pelted/marked SoA are considered blessed by the stars, earning a special title before their rank, minus council member ranks. Here's the madness you can expect!
// // Left: Celestial: Those covered by the stars are considered celestials -- living maps of the stars. These SoA are welcomed especially into the priesthood but may joinanything. They are considered almost starseeds, and are often treated with admiration. Most Celestials are highly saught after for mates, as fiull starry pelts are considered rare.
Center: Stellar: While not as rare as Celestial SoA, Stellar SoA still have a lot of stars -- prrhaps in several markings, or perhaps not as dense, or even broken up by non-stayyu markings, Stellar SoA are still revered and adored, though held to far less hopes of priesthood than Celestials. They're considered the most common startype. Right: Comets: Those with very few stars, offcolor stars (anything not white), or simply harboring a small number of starmarkings are consiudered comets. Beautiful, fleeting, and sdtrikingly rare like celestials, comets are sometimes debated over as possible starseeds, or perhaps similar. Comets have low expectations, but as often nudged towards travelling like their titular namesake.
* Non-Traditional star pelts: Those with the classic 'five pointed star' instead of space-like stars in their markings, or galaxy markings, ETC, are still considered star pelts. If it is a geometric pattern, it is asked to link the type of star if not the stereotypical star pattern of 5 points or space, but they count. The rule of thumb is, if it's all over, it's Celestial, 50% or less is traditionally Stellar, and a single stamped star or less than 25% is a comet. The pride doesn't judge as long as they know it's a STAR PELT! OMFG!
ROY G. BIV Common pridal colors run the rainbow gamut and are often highly saturated. The less natural, the more likely the SoA fits here. However, the pride does not, as a whole, discriminate on mates based on color or brightness. Love is love; these are merely the way pelts are handled when a rogue joins, and rarely affects those born in-pride.
// // Row 1: Average[: These are common, accepted colors for the Watoto wa Nyota. Colorful and clear, these SoA often do not fit in well in other prides. They are, however, welcome here.
// //
Middle Row: Acceptable deviations: While not perfect, these SoA are often still dominantly bright or have neutral tones that are acceptable in the pride. These deviations inclide patches of natural colors or primarily neutral tones. These SoA still fit in just fine, with no concerns.
// //
Bottom Row: Naturals: These SoA are all considered natural. These SoA are either born to the pride, or, in some cases, will be taken in if they are in dire need or have no other homes to go to. They are rare and not considered easy to outcast, however the pride will take their own natural colors over outsiders in many cases -- those of these colors would need a good reason to join the Watoto, although they will usually not be turned away with no help at all -- when able, the pride will help them.
