Star swam through the palace in a bad mood, but what else was new for the Naiacorn? If there wasn’t a scowl on her face, that’s when others would ask if anything was wrong. But for right now she was annoyed because she just couldn’t find the naiad that she was looking for. The purple female with maroon and yellow hair shouldn’t have been that hard for her to find, and yet here she was, still looking for the other. She swam around another corner and the naiad that she was looking for was there! However, Star had been swimming so quickly that she managed to bump into the other, almost impaling the other female. “Gah!” Star said, startled at the sudden impact. She quickly moved back, making sure that her horn was not in impaling position, and rubbed the spot that had been hit. She looked at what she had hit and realized it was the naiad she had been looking for! “Vera! I’ve been looking all over for you! And uh… sorry for almost stabbing you.” Star wasn’t mean on purpose, even if she was easy to anger. Still, as soon as it came, it dissipated quickly.

Today was one of Vera's days off, metaphorically speaking.
By that, what was really happening was that her son was taking over the watchful eye and care of her two dearest friends' recoveries so that she could attend to her regular duties and - if there was time - herself as well. As it were, she was currently once more a lady-waiting-in-the-hall-to-sneak-a-snack. By her calculations - and by calculation, of course that was just a guess - there should be some pick me ups for the staff ready in the kitchen sometime soon. And she was, by coincidence or not, a staff member herself. Lucky!
She hoped there were some shrimp today, or clams, or some yummy pickled seaweed. She never understood how they pickled things in the water, but they always tasted so yummy and tart.
The handmaiden was practically drooling as she turned a blind corner, head on the surface as it were, and ran right into some poor girl. Or perhaps she'd been run into; same difference.
"Yes? Vera? I am she, she is me?"
Blinking, Vera tilted her head to the side and looked upwards as she pondered the statement for a moment before laughing. "Well, if you were to stab me, please give me a warning first so I can activate my power." That way she could begin healing immediately... or so her train of thought went. She nodded once as she clapped her hands together and returned her eyes to the naiadcorn. "So what can ol' Vera do for you?"

Star rolled her eyes though she was smiling. She knew that she wouldn't be stabbing any pae on purpose. Yet. No one had made her angry enough to do so yet at least. Star snapped back to reality when Vera asked why she was needed. Yes... why did she need Vera... Star's face darkened in embarrassment as her palm met her face. "... I forgot. I was in such a hurry and mood to find you that it slipped my mind." Really, what kind of worker was she exactly if she coudln't even remember why she needed to find others. "I know I needed your opinion on... something. But I can't remember what it was." Was it decorative? Some small event that was to take place soon that Star was trying to get ready? She sighed, the blush on her face refusing to leave. "Sorry I bumped into you Vera and forgetting what I needed to ask you." She did feel guilty, but her temper sometimes got the best of her and controlled her actions a little too much.

Vera did not notice the eye roll.
"Fret not, I'm sure you did not mean anything bad by it." With a sagely nod, she assessed the situation at hand for a moment longer before clapping her hands together once more. "I know! I have a perfect idea! Will you join me for some snacks. Sometimes doing something else helps me to jog my memory when I have forgotten something." A pause as her eyes drifted upwards and she seemed to ponder something, followed by an absentminded, "...and sometimes I forget even more doing that..." before looking back at Star again with a bright smile.
...
"Speaking of... what was your name again? I seem to have forgotten. We must have met before if you already know mine."

Star could feel her shoulders fall for a bit, glad that the other wasn't mad at her. "That would be wonderful, thank you." She said, still trying to figure out why she had wanted to get the other so badly. "I hope I remember what it is I was looking for you for." She said, still blushing at how badly she had messed up. "Oh, it's Starshire! Though I usually just go by Star. It's easier to say and not as long." She said, not minding that she had to tell the other her name again. After all, she couldn't say she was perfect in the name department either, especially with others that she had only rarely met. The reason she remembered Vera's name though was having to scream it out in the hallways so much right before they had literally bumped into each other.

"Starshine... Starshine... Star! Of course Star!"
. . .
"That does not seem to chime a shell. Sorry. I must have forgotten. No matter, snacks was it? Let us go~!" With a clap of her hands and a nod, she turned to continue her swim over to the kitchen side-by-side with Star.
After a moment of silence, some very Vera-esque small talk ensued. "So, does your kind normally have difficulty not impaling others on a day-to-day basis?"

Star shrugged her shoulders. "It's fine. I haven't introduced myself to a lot of others, so not recognizing my name isn't a big deal." She said, swimming with Vera now, wandering through the hallways. She couldn't help but giggle at the question that Vera asked. "Somewhat. You always have to be conscious of it at least." It was heavy enough that she never really stopped noticing it, but she sometimes forgot how long it was, and had knocked it into quite a few things. "If you ever hear others complain about broken things in the palace, it's probably one of us having accidentally destroyed whatever it is with this horn." She had done plenty of damage herself! "I'm not really sure what the advantage is. I mean, if you're a fighter it makes a bit more sense, but day-to-day? Don't know. At least your kind can swim and walk on the land. We just have these horns." She was always a bit jealous of those that could do so. It must have been neat to be able to check out what was above the water! At least, more than Star could.

Vera's calm smile remained as she casually started to forget little Starry's name here once more. Not that she would have noticed that this was happening, it just sort of did on occasion. Lifting her hand to her forehead, she mimicked a horn in a manner that some may have felt a touch offensive, but with such a pure disposition they would have found it difficult to grow upset with it. "So, can you use it to catch fish? Like this and thaaaaat." She pretended to be stabbing at fish with her head - it was probably pretty silly looking all and all.
"Oh yes! You could be a fighter too! Or perhaps help with cooking, skewering and all. Very useful. Maybe you could even sharpen the sides.... NOW YOU HAVE A SWORD HYAH."
This conversation was probably going nowhere anytime soon, unlike them.

Star giggled a little. "Yeah, it can be used to catch fish, though I like your ideas better. Fighting could be fun at least, and maybe I could try some cooking." She replied giggling a little. Vera seemed like she was having quite a bit of fun with all of this. "I'd have to find my way in to any of those roles of course, but once I did, I think I could do well at any of them!" The fighter seemed the most appealing though. It's not as though she looked for fights, but she wasn't against them either. And perhaps she could become a guard? That way she could live near the palace perhaps? Such a beautiful structure in the water couldn't possibly get tiring to look at. Star could feel herself getting hungry though, and now the swim seemed to be taking forever! Why couldn't the kitchen be here sooner! "I might eat more than I thought I would." She said to her swimming companion, trying to hide the rumbling of her stomach after she had finished her sentence.

Vera returned her arms to her side with a nod that Star seemed pleased with her ideas. "Do let me know if you would like me to introduce you to anynaiad in those areas - especially fighting. I may not be active on that front, but my husband is... was...." she seemed a touch confused as she furrowed her brows and struggled to figure out the best way to word this going forward, given the likely troubling implications. "I do not think it best to speak with him about a passing interest... nor the Captain or Commander... mm... perhaps Itaso would be best then? But she can be so hostile........" Probably wasn't best to badmouth her at this point in time in such a location, but Vera didn't mean the statement to be offensive - it was more just an observational fact.
Her musings paused as they reached the kitchen and a metaphorical lightbulb turned back on in her head. "Oh right! We were to make off with some snacks before being noticed!"

Star knew to keep her mouth shut. She wasn't sure what had happened to Vera's husband, but figured that it wouldn't be a good idea to ask about it. The other naiad seemed confused on how to even word... whatever had happened! The Naiacorn shrugged. "It's okay. If you just even have someone who could point me in the right direction, that would be great! Or even pointing myself in the right direction. I think I can manage to get myself in there." She said, giving a smirk to the other naiad. Perhaps Star was a bit too used to fighting. The Naiacorn blushed at the thought of being in the kitchen without permission. It was silly, but she really didn't want to make a bad first impression if they were caught! "Uh yeah, we better do that quickly then!" She said as she tried to take a peek into the room. It was a bit hard to go unnoticed however with her giant horn sticking out of her head. If there was one place that she knew she wouldn't be assigned, that would be sneaking around that's for sure!

"Oh, I can point you in many directions, which do you need?" She laughed, hoping her joke would go over well. It was a joke... right?
There was little hesitation as the older naiad entered the kitchen. "Snacks~ Snacks~ Snacks~" Vera was blissfully unaware - or perhaps willfully ignorant - of any danger associated with sneaking a snack from the kitchens. With a glint in her eye, she made her way towards a particular area where they often kept the prepared sweets for the evening meals. Just one wouldn't hurt...~
And in the spot, rather than the usual stash, there were two little undersea parfaits plated and ready. They even had a little note? Quote: Vera,
Kindly refrain from pulling innocent bystanders into your mischief. And just ask if you want a snack - you know we know when you sneak off with something. Honestly, its a bit of trouble for us. Give us a break and a heads up from now on, okay?
And young lass with her, take care not to end up like her.
- Kitchen Staff Oops, guess she got found out.

Star couldn't help but giggle. "Whatever direction I need to get into fighting and joining the guards." She was really starting to warm up to the idea. She hadn't really thought about it before, but if she were to go into anything, it seemed like the perfect fit! When they got into the kitchen Star stayed back a bit as Vera looked around for the snacks and when she finally seemed to find them, there appeared to be a bit of joy on the other's face, and then it turned into surprise. Star started to worry and swam over. "Everything all right?" She hoped that the other wasn't in trouble. She didn't want anyone to get in trouble because of her!

Vera mused on that, not sure which sort of direction would be the best sort of direction for such needs. Perhaps westward towards the guard's chambers? Really, her husband was better for such a thing than her.
When she looked over at Star, there was a bit of a mischievous glint to her smile before she shared the note, "We were found out~ Oopsie!" She then picked up the pair of parfaits and handed one to her newfound partner-in-snacking with a smile before taking a bite, her expression immediately melting into the very picture of bliss. "They really do make the best sweets in all of Telrunya~ Moments like these really make me grateful that we could be here now." A surprisingly concise statement from the older naiad.
She took the dishes and moved to clean them before placing the utensils and plating where they belonged once she and Star had finished eating. "But, yes yes. The guards. I do very much hope that they treat you nicely - do come find me if they do not and I will have a stern word with Turin!" Whether or that actually meant anything, who knew?
