The spring's sun was rising high on the horizon, the fields freshly-tilled and lightly dampened by the morning dew, and the sound of insects were beginning to welcome the day. The way the lingering chill in the air was beginning to fade from the warmth of the sky, empty of all but a single lingering cloud, gave the impression that today would be a warm one. A perfect day for farm work.

And thus began the first-annual - well second if you counted when Faelon and Vendemia had first met - family crop-planting extravaganza.

Faelon, with a shovel in one hand, shielded his eyes from the sun as he looked up. "It's looking to be a great day, isn't it Vendi?" As he finished his sentence, he looked over to offer a bright smile at his friend that joined him. Well, they probably should have been pretty close friends by now, huh? The two younger adults, very obviously their children by blood, joining them today could attest to that. How the time flies! Unlike him anyways, haha. "Let's get to it. The sooner we start the sooner we finish. And boy, let me tell you, Mojo's brew tastes the best after a hard's day's honest work. Man, I already can't wait!"

Hi everyone! This rp is mainly for the purpose of Mene and I to establish the familial relationships and interactions between Faelon, Vendimia, and their kids. That said, we thought it'd also be fun and make a lot of sense to open it up for anyone who has a pae with a reason to be working on planting crops! Feel free to join in whenever you want and interact with whoever you want; no need to involve us if you don't want to. That said, you can totally involve us in your stuff if you do.

As a cheat sheet, I'll be updating this first post with participants as they join to make it easier for everyone to reference! Have fun!

Deforest adjusted his glasses and stared at the feild. So many bugs, so little time.

It wasnt often that his wife let him play with nature. After that last debaicle with the spiders, he had been grounded for quite some time. It was good to be with nature again.

Adjusting his satchel of various tools and equipment, he moseyed off toward the open fields, humming to himself.

Vendimia went down to the fields this year with a smile on her face--for the first time. She'd always hated this work, farming. She had hoped that in this new home she'd be able to do something with more dignity. But then the Earth had gifted her with farming magic, and she took it as fate and did her duty with resigned acceptance and no small amount of bitterness. It amazed her, in retrospect, that she was able to bless anything with that attitude.

Last year, everything changed.

Faelon, who at the time Vendimia only knew as Queen Celestia's son, had struck up a conversation with her. Her! Of all the Fauns he could have picked, he chose her. And they'd struck up a friendship. No one had ever treated her like Faelon did. He was kind, and earnest. That was what she loved most about him--he was completely without artifice. And he could be doing anything, and here he was, down in the dirt with her.

That friendship had blossomed into...something more, as well. She couldn't help a little blush at the memory. She couldn't say that Faelon was the most affectionate lover, but she didn't doubt that he cared for her, and loved her all the same. And she didn't mind taking the lead when it came to romance.

Vendimia glanced back over her shoulder with a smile at their children. How quickly a year had passed! Alba looked just like Faelon's mother, who Vendimia had finally gotten more relaxed around, and Rho was almost a perfect combination of the two of them. She couldn't be happier--or prouder.

"It's beautiful," she agreed, inhaling the fresh morning air. Today, for the first time, she was excited to come down to the fields, to work the soil with her family. Today, it seemed like honest work--as Faelon had put it--and a tangible result at the end of the day, instead of a burden. "I hear he's got a new thing with ginger in it, I'm excited to try it. Spicy!"

"Does he now? I usually keep to his fruitier stuff, but I might have to try it... Actually, can I just get a taste of yours when we get in?" That way they could each get their own thing and he could still try it. Course, he could always just ask for a taste, but if she was gonna get some anyways.... well, no harm no foul, right? He glanced over as the sleepy faun morning started to liven up as more came to help.

Yeah, at this rate they'd surely finish before the sun set (not minding that the days had already begun growing longer, so using that as a benchmark was becoming laxer and laxer).

He looked back at the kids once more with a smile and a wave before calling out, "Don't wear yourself out, but make sure you work nice and hard today, okay?" He was sure he didn't need to reiterate the lesson he'd drilled into them from day one - that being the virtues of working hard to be a contributing member of society - but did so anyways as a friendly call-to-action.

With a nod at their responses, he again looked forward and began to walk over to where various seeds and seedlings were ready for planing. He gave Vendi a bright smile and a pat on the shoulder as he passed her.

Rhoea, very obviously the child of the golden pair up ahead, gave his dad a thumbs up to the overused mantra. At this point, he wouldn't be surprised to find out he'd actually dreamt some of the experiences rather than heard them in the person.

No matter.

While he wasn't particularly excited about the prospect of this 'family fielding fun,' he rather liked the rush he got from a good workout. It could have been a nice run around the tree (or its perimeter), climbing up to say hi to some of his cousins in the branches, or, as they were about to do, working the fields; a nice sweat and an increased pulse made him really feel alive. It didn't hurt his confidence in his body's strength and appearance either; while he'd yet to find any girl to make his heart flutter, he couldn't just sit around and wait for her before seeking to impress.

If only they hadn't had to come down so early; he was more of a late-morning waker-upper. He scratched the back of his calf with a hoof as he stretched his arms above is head. "Well, what'd you figure we should start out with?"

Time for another year's planting season.

Following behind her already-preoccupied husband, a very busty and very muscled female carried a bag filled to the top with tools that'd just finished being repaired for the day in a satchel over her shoulder. As she'd been part of the team that'd tilled the day before, she'd not had to come in so early, but... Deforrest just wouldn't shut up about how they needed to be here by this time, else he be unable to see some special something-or-other-probably-a-bug-thing.

Even to this day she didn't understand what he was talking about when he got like this.

Yeah, he was a bit of a weirdo and a bit of an idiot, but he was her weirdo and her idiot. And she loved that part about him to pieces. Well, as long as he didn't bring anything home - she had NO qualms about killing any tree-forbidden bug he happened to bring in. Bugs belonged in the fields, not where she slept. So gross.

Plus, she was pretty weird herself by faun standards, haha.

Noticing one of her comrades-in-soil, Grimhildr gave Vendi a wave large enough to catch her attention with a "G'morning!" loud enough to be heard by probably everyone nearby. That was enough time for her beloved to start to wander off on his own. With a playful, designated sigh, she laughed and waved him off. "Don't you be causin' anyone any trouble now. If I have to come get ya you're getting a hogtie for the return trip."

Deforest paused midstep at his wife's threat and blushed fiercly. Adjusting the strap on his sack, he grinned to himself rather deviously and admitted in his brain that his wife did have one hell of a hogtie. But then he remembered where he was and shook himself all over.

Taking a deep breath, he turned and waved goodbye to her before wandering straight over to a field. He dropped his sack at the tip of it and dove right in. In mere seconds, he had his glass jars and his magnifying googles out and was digging thru the freshly turned muck for the most recent bug activity.

Vendimia's response to Faelon was merely to giggle and knock into his shoulder with her own. He truly had the strangest euphemisms. But that was one of the reasons she loved him, she supposed.

"Oh, hey!" she said softly when greeted by Grimhildr. She gave an enthusiastic wave back. "Good morning!" she called back. "It's good to see you again!"

Alborada mimicked her brother as they arrived at the field; she yawned and stretched her arms over her head. She also wasn't used to being up quite so early. She kicked a bit of loose dirt with her hoof and made a bit of a face, though she was careful to hide it so her parents wouldn't see. She understood the importance of an honest day's work, but surely there were ways for her to help out and do her duty without getting so...dirty and sweaty. "I dunno," she responded. "I guess we just put the seeds in the ground?"

Vendimia came by to hand long-handled tools to both her children. "What we start with," she said, answering Rho's question, "Is preparing the soil. It's gotten hard over the winter and we need to stir it up so the seeds will take root. C'mon, I'll show you." She led them to the field and began to use the tool to pull up the soil, so that what had been under a hard top layer was exposed.

Miela came jogging down the path, tools over her shoulder and a pail in her hand. "Sorry I'm late!" she called. She'd overslept, but that was embarrassing to admit, so she wouldn't unless pressed. She was typically such an early riser that she'd never been late to a planting.

"Ooh, new faces!" she said with delight, noting Rhoea and Alborada's presence. "I'm Miela--it's great to have you join us!" Spring planting always felt like a bit of a "club", with how few of them there were, but she couldn't contain her excitement about others who enjoyed the smell of fresh soil, the sun on their brows, and watching the little leaves flutter in the breeze as much as she did.

Oh look at that little idiot go.

As he settled into whatever it was he did, she rolled her shoulders with a few audible cracks letting her arms re-situation beside her and holding the pack of tools above her shoulder. "I could say the same ta you; you look much happier to be out in the fields this year." She spoke loudly enough to be heard even as she walked over. She looked over the two younger adults for a moment before seeming to come to a realization. "They yours?" She probably should have known them by this point, but she tended to push out everything else when she was focused on her work.

Much like a certain little bug-hunter.

"Oh, mornin' Miela! Can't believe you of all faun would have overslept for plantin' day." There was a playful smugness in her speech as she walked over and gave the girl a nudge.

Rhoea didn't make much of a fuss as he followed after his mom, though he did share a look with Alba when their parents blatantly flirted in front of everyone. Gross. He was still internally reeling when he took a hoe from his mom and watched a few moments before mimicking the motion. Unlike the ground, this didn't seem like it was gonna be so hard after all.

Also, he was a bit surprised to hear is mom actually had friends. Was that bad?

The boy set his tool down as he glanced over at something far more interesting than planting - a cute girl. A very cute girl. A cute girl he'd yet to meet before; how had he missed her! He was conflicted for a moment about whether he was glad he'd not yet broken a sweat or sad that she couldn't see the sweat from some honest labor accentuate his toned muscles. Ah, the woes of being so devilishly handsome! He had to settle for a boyish smile as he offered a handshake in greeting. "The pleasure is all mine! Nice to meet you Miela, I'm Rhoea." He really hoped that name wouldn't bring up any gossip from his childhood that his parents might have spread to this cutie.

This was not a moment where he wanted his reputation to precede him.

Rhoea offered a wave as another familiar face came over; everyfaun had to have known the charismatic nurse by this point. He was no different, not with how he'd gotten into his fair share of shenannigans that required medical attention as a kid. "Mornin' Nurse Redheart!" Even as an adult, it felt a bit weird to just call her by name. He offered a wave to the tot following behind before glancing around. "Felix off wandering the tree by himself again?"

Faelon decidedly did not notice that Vendi had interpreted his very straightforward thoughts into... another way.

After reaching the pile, he began to siphon through the various crops all ready to be planted. They had quite the arrangement before them - those responsible for saving the best seeds of the prior crop and preparing the seedlings for some of these really knew what they were doing. That said, while he could swing a hoe and weed something fierce, he wasn't as technically skilled when it came to arranging the crops in the most suitable manner. A small seedling in each hand, he turned to yell over to Vendi. "Hey! Which did you want to do first?" Oh, there were more people here now. "Also, good morning everyone!"
