██ ▌♆ GRAY IGNIS ASTERI - VOSIAN LT. GENERAL
▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃
✦ ↭ ↭ ✦
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

✦ Gray was enveloped in total darkness. It weighed upon their shoulders as if a starless sky had come crashing down, and they were the singular soul to keep it from crushing the world underneath. It was suffocating. Every muscle in Gray's body screamed out in agony, but they could not yield. Not because of some stubborn or noble nature; though their temperament may have had a part to play in it, but more so because of some instinctual urge. To lose to this crushing void would mean to lose themselves completely. The thought of that tugged at Gray's core, and kept them planted firmly in grim determination.

Within that darkness came an amber glow; the color of dying coals, but the light would grow till the void was ablaze with hues of orange and red. In the new churning chaos of fiery light and inky blackness a world began to form. A barren earth dotted with gnarled and boney trees spread out from Gray's feet, and an ashen sky lit by an eclipsed sun spread across the horizon. The dead world trembled as haunted voices echoed from the shadows; their whispers held an unintelligible question, but Gray already knew what they wanted.

"I am ready," the lieutenants voice appeared to be snatched by some unseen wind. The silence that followed soaked up every syllable as though Gray spoke into a pillow rather than the field. The young demon's eyes locked to some movement in the distance. A shadow approached, slow and listed. The being was nothing but pure darkness, but Gray could still make out the outlines of what it might have worn in the past. The rounded shoulders and chest straps of leather armor. A tattered belt with three empty scabbards. Its hair was long, and the figure feminine. Gray thought that If not for the soul crushing gaze and featureless face she might have been beautiful once.

Sweat beaded upon Gray's brow by the time the creature stopped. Its hollow eyes bored into the Lieutenant General's violet hues. Gray's legs trembled, but they lowered their body into a crouch; legs braced for the inevitable conflict that would ensue. The shadow hissed and dropped into a mirrored pose. Its empty sockets flickered with an ethereal crimson glow, and without any further prompts the monster let out a battle cry and launched toward Gray with supernatural speed.

Their battle shook the world within the void. Gray's heart beat franticly, and sweat hissed upon their burning skin. The demon's lungs screamed with each ragged breath, and every one of their senses were stretched to their limits. Boiling blood splashed across the cracked earth. Flames erupted from the sprays, but the shadow was unfazed as the heat battered over its form.

More demonic ichor was dashed upon the ground. Gray's vision blurred as a torrent of flame five meters high erupted toward the shadow. It howled in anguish, and Gray only had enough time to take a single breath before another bone crushing strike sent them reeling. This desperate struggle for survival lasted for what could have been mere minutes, or even days. The eclipsed sun did not move within this world, and so time meant nothing. Only each second Gray still breathed mattered. Though this wasn't much of a fight anymore, but more of a massacre.

After an eternity Gray lied upon the dead earth, defeated. Their body bruised, and bones broken; flesh torn and scattered across the battlefield. Earlier their body had felt as if it were on fire, but now all they felt was the cold emptiness of the void. The shadow hissed in what might have been disappointment as it hoisted Gray's broken body into the air.

Their crimson and violet hues locked one last time, and a sneer spread across Gray's bloody lips. "Till next time..." The shadow raised its clawed hand and let out one final cry before plunging its fist through the demons chest. Gray's vision began to fade, and the world within the void crumbled back into nothingness...

Gray opened their eyes to see that morning light had pierced the clouds. The sound of swords clanged nearby, and demons barked orders at one another as their daily routine began. Sweat clung to the lieutenants skin, and drenched their baggy pants and loose tank top. Gray leaned back on the stone they perched upon with a soft sigh that parted their lips.

"Still a long way to go, I would think."

Samatheyl
The Queen's Hand

Samatheyl knew not how much time had gone by in his pursuit to observe the younger demon he simply knew as Gray, wasn't even something he'd originally planned to do, but when he caught sight of them perched atop their rock, unmoving, he had to investigate. He had alighted on their stone seat with a charming smile and a simple greeting as the Hand had assumed them to be merely in meditation, however the lack of any response afterwards puzzled him. Curious he greeted them once more though with an unsure tone that time, still no response, he pondered for a moment as to whether or not he was being ignored, he decided to test the theory. With a gentle poke he prodded at them, softly at first, this continued until the demon pestered their fellow so that they actually started to topple from the rock. Quick as lightning Samatheyl caught them before they fell and gently set them back in place, through it all the other demon had not stirred, now most curious the Hand thought long over what manner of trance their compatriot was in. The demon's musing were interupted however when a passerby informed him as to the specifics of Gray's most mysterious activity, though his curiosity had been satisfied the demon now had a new goal...

Not to far away stood another boulder of roughly equal size and shape to the one Gray sat upon, though not close enough for the Hand's liking, so with some effort, and by aid of dark powers, he moved the rock much closer to Gray's then took his post atop it. He knew not how long he would have to wait for his comrade to emerge from their little sparing match but time was one thing Samatheyl had in abundance at the moment so no rush. As time wore on however the appeal of the meeting started to wear off, Time must work quite strangely in that little world of their's, the Hand thought as his gaze swept up and down the length Gray's body for the thousandth time. He paid particular attention to their hair, it wasn't as neat as Samatheyl liked and it irked him to such a degree that he opted to take action. With a quiet huff he unfurled his wings and lifted into the air by anomalous means, he drifted over Gray's rock and touched down behind them, he then sat to more closely inspect his comrade's locks. A short while later he made a "Hmph", sound and reached into the folds of clothes, from its depths he produced a comb, he then started to comb Gray's hair with a practiced touch...

Sometime later...

Samatheyl was nearly complete in his mission to rid Gray of their "messy" hair when the first signs of life finally bubbled to the surface, the Hand sighed and scooted back on the rock. He waited patiently for them to turn, or stand, sigh, anything really, though he was pleasently suprised when they instead opted to lie back... right where his lap was, their head perfectly placed for the task,

"Good." was all that Samatheyl said before he returned to his mission of combing Gray's hair into a silky smooth sheet of luminescent pink/gold.

✦ Violet orbs stared up into the strangers face and a wave of complex emotions raced through Gray's mind. Though, the young demon's face remained blank besides the faintest of twitches. One of the first emotions that flashed behind their eyes was anger. How dare this man touch me!? I should rip his limbs from their sockets... The thought dissipated like a flame in a hurricane, replaced by embarrassment for the position Gray was in. By the God's, h-he's so close. What do I do? What do I say? I think I might die... Yet once more the feelings withdrew back into Gray's heart. Confusion, calculation, fear, and many such emotions were cycled through and discarded. Gray could not be sure about how they truly felt in that brief moment, so instead opted to escape that anxious situation by breaking the silence.

"Have I seen you before? You look familiar." Gray remained where they laid upon their companies lap. One could say the Lt. General was tense, as if ready for a fight, but their body visibly loosed with each brush of their hair. A dirty betrayal, indeed.

Samatheyl
The Queen's Hand

Personal space was a concept that Samatheyl had long ago forgotten, the decades spent as a worker of the many pleasure houses that dotted Vosia had seen to that. So one could see how the demon saw absolutely nothing wrong with intimate closeness he shared with Gray as he spun their hair into a work of silken art. Though his attention was fixed upon his fellow's hair he would catch fleeting glimpses at the various emotions that swirled about in their unerring gaze, which he found adorable in a queer sort of way. As he worked the Hand hummed, the tune was gentle and melodic, something a parent might sing to calm a fussy or nervous child, lull them into a peaceful state. The song would not be long for the world though as it died pitifully in the back of his throat when Gray spoke, Samatheyl's expression changed from one of content to match his counterpart's, the soft glint in his eyes disappeared and was replaced by the faintest hint of annoyance. Some small part of him had wished that moment between had lasted forever, though the fragment of his psyche knew not why it had drawn happiness from the exchange it was nonetheless upset at its loss. The demon took in a deep breath then let it out slowly, the rhythm of the comb remained steady with the same delicate touch but something was obviously amiss with the demon. After a stretch of silence between them he would finally utter,

"We met at reception for Lord Hawaine and Lady Nigiri, I handed you a drink to raise for the toast, I suppose I should have introduced myself back then, might have saved us from meeting like this but I think I prefer it this way. The name is Samatheyl, Hand of the Queen." he said to her. The comb would run through Gray's hair a final time before it was returned to the depths of Sam's clothes, with both hands free he gently gathered Gray's hair into a great bundle, "Tell me, have your heard of the human 'Lorraine Braid'?" he asked them as he started to work their hair into three silken strands, "I think you would look lovely with one, you've got the right color for it, shine too." he stated.
